Just found this area to rate SSA! I have had to go to the office on Chastain a few times this year. I was unable to make an appointment the first time - everyone who was waiting was very patient and those working for SSA made sure that we knew approximate wait times by ticket number. Because of the long lines, many of us were sitting in our cars hoping we didn't miss our number being called. The other challenge is there is no place close by to get anything if you are hungry - you have to drive since not close. The remaining biggest challenge is finding the office since they moved. Like so many organizations, they are understaffed. Last but not least if they were unsure of the answer, they asked one of their co-workers or managers. My rating is a 4.5 (but can only show 4 or 5I never give the top rating - if I think they are doing great the rating is just under the top number. read more

Well,I imagine you've heard horror stories of someone waiting all day,for absolutely nothing, but, that wasn't my case at all. I went at 13:00,which,like ALL TIMES, IS A "FULL HOUSE". Still,after registering at their online booth and joining the seated masses - I was attended to in about 90 minutes . The employee assingned to my case was pleasant and thorough,and,actually seemed to really care. As it turned out, the woman informed me of my approved status and approximate dates I should be receiving cash("SHOW ME DA MONEY!"). I needed to file for SSDI. With the virus I knew it was not going to be normal. I set up an appointment for them to take my application via telephone. My application was taken via phone 3weeks later it was a pleasant experience. Ms. Rafuna was very caring, showed compassion,but kept us on on track. After we closed the call, over the next weeks, I had some questions regarding the process and she always returned my calls promptly and asked good qualifying questions to be able to answer the questions correctly. I was in the hotel sector for 30yrs and I could have only dreamed of having her on my staff. She had a job to do with a lot of procedures to be done but did it with keeping my emotions in check and showing me respect. I want to give this ZERO STARS. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!!!! They do not care about what time you go there or how long you waited outside. The black, bald guy who was "assisting" didn't answer any questions. He just said "get in line". The day before I stayed on an hour wait to speak with a person and not a robot. Once I spoke with them I asked for everything that I needed and VERIFIED EVERYTHING WAS CORRECT. I get to the office at 7am and there already is a line. I stand in the line till 8:45am when the doors open. I get to kiosk and I was given my number. We wait for the bald man to give directions at 9:10am. Once he got to the name change he saw my paperwork and told me that it wasn't valid...EVEN AFTER I CALLED!! I asked him why, and he didn't answer me then moved on and was moving others to put their paperwork in a cardboard box. I asked nicely to ask what I was needing and he didn't answer me but just looked at me then turned back. I never want to waste my time here again for rude individuals that are not wanting to assist. read more

Here's a secret confession of mine- I got married 2 years ago, and never changed my maiden name. A large part of the reason of why I have been so slow to change my last name to that of my beloved's is that I dreaded having to go to the Social Security office for the name change, the DMV for a new driver's license, and dealing with the whole process of getting a new passport. It's all just so much (le sigh). But, it was time for me to suck it up buttercup and do what I needed to do. So I went to this Social Security office to get my name changed, and it wasn't bad at all. You go to a kiosk and check in, and you're given a number. When your number is called, you go to a window and are helped by a staff member. If you're getting a name change your number will be called really quickly so you won't have a long wait. I noticed much longer waits for people who were there for other issues so I recognized this was my blessing. It was a pretty painless process that I shouldn't have been worried about, and I hope this Social Security office keeps up its great service and wait times. read more

Every person - from the kind and funny and eternally cheerful security guard at the front to each and every person I spoke with at the office - all were so kind, caring, knowledgeable and professional. My wife Went here to file for social security. She waited forty five minutes. This place was packed. When her number was called, We went to the window and was welcomed by a very nice girl. She helped my wife to file the proper paperwork to receive her social security money. We were very happy with the service we received. read more

My first time at this location and I was impressed. The office doesn't open til 9am but there was a line almost around the building when I pulled up at 8:30am thinking I was going to be the first one there. HA! These people knew the deal and they had probably been waiting since 7:45 to get in. I decided there was no use standing on the line in the hot sun so I just waited in the car. At about 8:50am they opened the doors and let the crowd slowly file inside. Then, and only then, did I join the line. Once you get through the doors, there is security similar to that in an airport. You have to take off your belt, jewelry, empty your pockets, have your bag searched and walk through a metal detector and/or get patted down. I wasn't expecting this because I'd gone to another location just a few days before and there was no security at all so it was interesting that this one had. Shrug. Once past security, you're directed into a large room with lots of seating and different service windows. But first you must visit the kiosk that will spit out your ticket number after you've answered a few questions on the screen relating to what you need help with at the SSA office. I got my ticket, sat down and waited to be called. PLEASE be sure to silence your cell phones, there are signs everywhere that say this but some people just rudely ignore it which isn't fair since your phone going off prevents people from being able to hear when their number is called. Not cool dude! There's also a sign that explains that if you see someone being called before you who came in after you, it's because various windows deal with various concerns...makes sense. You should watch the TV to look for your number to come up in the "now servicing" area on the bottom but beware, you also need to LISTEN to the PA system because, in my case, my number never came up on the screen. Note: There are windows in the waiting area that are lettered and there are windows that are numbered and located to the far left and to the far right of the room. After about 35-40 mins and was called back to the windows on the right of the room. A very nice young lady took care of me, had me fill out a form and had me out of there in no more than ten extra minutes. New card should be mailed within two weeks. I called this location was hung up on twice. I spoke with the customer service number prior to call them, they were rude as well after waiting to speak with someone for an entire hour. I was told to call the local location to request a print out to show my SSC was in the process of being mailed and to request a print out. I started a new job and going through the I9 process and not able to continue working without the document. These people are rude and inconsiderate. My last call I asked to speak with management and how to make a complaint....I was hung up on. I am so disappointed as I am going to be without a job because of poor customer service and nobody willing to assist due to not being in the office. read more

It's not the most exciting place to review, but I was pleasantly surprised. After getting married, it was about time to update the last name and such. If you check out their website, there's a place for you to enter your zip code to find the nearest office. The one that happened to be closest to me was this location in Marietta. On a Friday morning around 11, there's still plenty of parking in the spot. Eren C has an awesome review of this place if you want more details on the process of going in. You'll go through the metal detectors, the security guards will look at the contents of your purse/belongings. The next step was to check-in which I did through one of their kiosks - it was surprisingly efficient and it prints out a slip of paper and the waiting process begins. The waiting office was busy, but there was still plenty of seating. There's a TV which displays called out numbers, although it tends to be slow compared to when they literally call your number. What's super confusing is the windows are lettered A-G or so, but I was told to go to window 7. Super-confusing but I found random signs that indicate where to go based on numbers 1-8 or 9-20. Basically a row of windows where you greet someone who will confirm your identity and paperwork. The lady who assisted me was super-chill, friendly and well, completely different from what I would've expected from a government employee. I thought they'd be disgruntled and hate their job. The process was really smooth and I was in the SSA office for no more than 30 minutes. It might've been no more than 25. A coworker had told me to be prepared to wait for hours and I wonder if that's the downtown ATL location. I'd highly recommend going to Marietta if that's the case. read more

We just had another great experience at a Social Security office. Funny to say but true. Because of life we went to the office in Santa Cruz Ca in July where they were so very helpful. Then to Reno NV in September where we got great service and information. Today with Anthony Williams here in Marietta GA we completed the process. Mr Williams seemed to be reading our mind. He was right on top of everything. Knowledgable, clear in his presentation. Thank you. Signing up for Social Security is confusing when you are looking at getting spousal benefits. It took us quite awhile ho figure it out. But we now have. One sad commentary. In Santa Cruz office you walk in an talk with a person across the counter there is a single security guard. In Reno you must have an appointment and even then you meet with the rep who is behind a plexiglass window. In Marietta get an appointment, you go through a metal detector, past three big security guys and then again talk with the rep who is behind plexiglass. Again, all the people there are trying their best to help. read more

Wow! I'm still amazed how smooth the process was to get a name change on my social security card! The police officers at the door were nice (something I hardly ever have the pleasure to say about police officers), the wait was relatively short (about 10 minutes - I got there about 30 min after open), and the gentleman that helped us was extremely nice and efficient as well. I know most of us dread having to visit any government offices for fear of long lines and hours of waiting. However, we had a great experience at this Social Security Office. After reading the other reviews, we went in the second half of the month, later in the week, and arrived 35 minutes before they opened. They opened the office about 15 minutes early for a security check and sign in. There was a manager who was helping to make sure everyone had the right forms and paperwork. We were assigned a window and helped immediately after 9 AM. In and out in ten minutes. All of the security guards and employees were extremely helpful and polite. Very positive experience. I always dread having to come to these places but they made it a pleasant experience. The guard who checks you in was very kind and welcoming with a smile which was unexpected. The office itself is organized and clean. They moved people along efficiently and fairly fast. I like that they have an check in kiosk to help prioritize your need. I arrived at 8:09 on the dot on a Thursday. There were only 5 people waiting in line in front of me. At 8:35 there were 25 people in line. At 8:50 they opened the doors and you go through airport type security. Theres another line to sign in to a kiosk. There are three. Then you wait for your number to be called. I was called at 9:12 and was done and out of the building for a name change by 9:20. It was definitely not as bad as expected after reading other reviews. Place was clean and normal. I came in to get a new card and used self check in kiosk. It didn't have an option for a new card, only replacement. I wanted to ask a clerk if I checked in correctly and if this location issues new cards. I waited until there was noone at the window and said "good morning, may i ask you a question?". The woman at the window "H" yelled out "NO!". Seriously?? I dont know her name, but it was an overweight woman in a yellow shirt and funny looking hat. I showed up on a Friday at 8:15am, doors opened at 8:45am, I was helped with my name change at 9:05am, and I was out of there by 9:15am. The process was simple and fast! (Granted, I got there a tad early to get a jumpstart in the waiting line outside the building). read more

Worst system ever for checking in if your issue is not obvious on the kiosk screen. There is no one to help with signing in. I needed to bring proof of marriage and divorce and there was no choice for that. I have been here 30 minutes with no end in sight. read more

Spent 3 hours to just get a replacement social security card!!! They take forever to call your number then when they do call it..they just take your application and ID and tell you to take a seat again!!! Somebody will call you?!?!?! Their system is insane!! I went to sign up for retirement benefits at the office in Marietta and I was very happy with the representative who met with me, Ms. McClusky. I had been there about 4 months earlier but no one had given me all the information Ms. McClusky gave me and it saved my husband and I a lot of money. We had no idea we could claim a "change in life" situation based upon leaving work due to our business sale. She was absolutely amazing and extremely professional in handling both of our accounts.
