How tf you won't allow me to just hand in paperwork ONLY even though it was right at 4. I'm writing this at 4:02. This is my third time coming here. I was here Thursday, and Friday. And both days they were closed at 11AM & 9Am. They definitely should be making exceptions for the two days they were closed. Even after I explained I drove here TWO FREAKING DAYS Shame on you. read more

Social Security Administration - Public Services & Government Near Me - Houston, Texas

Went in today (with an appointment) for a name change and was in and out in 20 min. They open at 9am, line forms ahead of time. An officer comes out to tell you which building it what so you're aware of what line to stand in. Anything to do with SS card is done on the right side of the building. There's plenty of parking. When you walk in there are multiple people directing you on where to go. I'm amazed at how fast and smooth it went. read more

Most unusual thing, this branch of the government does a good job! Went in, quick and easy, made to pleasy. Oh that everything pertaining to government worked this well. read more

I had a very frustrating experience at the Social Security office near 290, where security was handled by Paragon Security. As soon as I walked in to update my status from green card to citizenship, one officer, who I couldn't identify initially, was extremely rude. He kept demanding what I needed in a condescending way, making me feel small. After I got my ticket and checked in, I was called to the window, and that same officer started yelling across the room, in front of everyone. I asked him why he was being so disrespectful, but he just escalated. After that, I tried to speak to another officer, hoping to get a supervisor, but he also refused to identify himself at first. Eventually, he gave me the last name Menendez, but again, he didn't want to offer any proper help or respect. Both officers acted with the same aggressive attitude for no reason. I was just trying to get the service I needed." read more

Plenty of parking. Once inside plenty of workers and window/booths. No appt needed. Before you go you need to know what line to get in. If you need to get SS card, get replacement card or name change go to the end of building to get in line. The front of building is for all other SS needs. Also fill and print out the application and have before showing up, you will be helped faster. I was 20th in line but got helped because I had app filled out and ready so all the other people had to hand write and fill app once inside. I was in and out in 20 mins... read more

A Visit to the Social Security office is not a great pleasure, but the Houston office handles the crowd very efficiently.

Social Security Administration - Exccer my rights the employees never let me explain situation or helped me so had Exercise my right - Public Services & Government Near Me - Houston, Texas

Sooooooo.... Do not come here if you do not have an appointment scheduled. Even if you arrive at opening you are in for an extremely long wait. I made that mistake and waited 3 hours for assistance in changing my name. Other than that, with an appointment, you are usually seen within 20 mins and everyone here is extremely nice. They make everything painless as long as you come prepared with proper documentation. read more

This was the quickest errand I ever ran. The employees were extremely pleasant and helpful from staff to security. I was greeted and seated within 5 minutes of my arrival and completed everything under 15 minutes. I highly recommend this location for any name change needs. read more

The problem is being able to talk to a person. The online service did not provide the answers I needed, so over two days I spent a total of 2-1/2 hours waiting to talk to a person and not a computer generated assistant. If they only had a " Chat" feature, as I had a very simple question to be answered. Once I got a hold of a person, it was resolved and answered quickly. read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience! I was waiting for THREE hours and NOTHING! I wasted my time. I do not recommend this place.

Understandably expect to wait a bit. If you come just before opening like 8:30am (it opens at 9am) you'll be seen moderately quickly. I got here at 9 and left around 10:15am. You may have to wait outside in line depending on the time and amount of people. Bring an umbrella, water/snack, a little fan if you have it. Bathrooms and whole facility is very clean and everyone is friendly and helpful! It was overall a great experience! The attendant I had was knowledgeable and able to help me despite the fact that I did not have the right document at first I happened to have another document that worked and she had asked about it. If she had not I would not have known and needed to come back another time. Anyway, went well! read more

Social Security Administration - Building! - Public Services & Government Near Me - Houston, Texas

When trying to schedule appointment online, there was no link only 1800 number to call. I called and they said more than 100min wait time and they asked if they can call back. So I waited and never got the call. Then I came to local office, they gave QR code to fill the application and after application submitted, there was a link to schedule appointment. The earliest available date is one month away. I set up time to do it today and came today, and I was turned back to go back home. I wasted my day and time to drive here and be sent back home. They need to update their online scheduling system and let people make appointments online like usps has passport or driver license appointments. Very disappointing:( read more

I went today to change my name. I made an appointment for 10:30 am and I was seen at 10:32. I was in and out within 10 minutes. The staff were also incredibly nice. When I went to check-in from the link, there was a glitch and it didn't give me a number. The guard was very kind and she told me to try the link again because they have that issue. The person that assisted in my name change was personable and kind as well. Highly recommend this office. read more

pésimo servicio mucha espera y no te atienden como deben deberían cambiar todo el personal

I had to visit to take a personal matter that pertains to social security. It was my first time here and I had nothing to really expect other than how long will I have to wait. Once you arrive there is a place for you to check in by entering your social security number and choose from a list of items as to why you were here. Next they will call your number and check you in. This is a way to narrow down why you are here. You then return to your seat and wait.... Next they will call you by name to complete your transaction. It was somewhat painless compared to visiting the DMV where i had to visit a few weeks ago. Just bring your patience and any documents that you feel pertinent. You don't want to sit here all that time and have to come back. read more

I went to change my name after marriage. My appointment was at 9:30 am, I checked in on my phone, was immediately seen, and out the door by 9:43 am. The place is clean, the process was automated and efficient, and staff was helpful. Impressed! read more

Security personnel is rude and lack empathy to individuals here for a government service. Moreover, use of mobile device or tablet is limited but they pick and choose who can or cannot. Terrible ! Absolutely horrible experience. All I needed to do was change my name. I had my current card, divorce decree, and birth certificate. I had to leave and come back twice because my picture ids were expired. They said they would accept my medical records with my name and DOB. When I got back they said my records needed to be signed by the person who printed them out at the doctors office even it clearly had a time stamp and the name of the person who printed it. I asked to speak to a supervisor on site to get to the bottom of why they were jerking me around to get what I needed. Bottom line don't accept bad treatment, there is always someone you can speak with to get help. read more

You just have to remember...this is a government agency and there will always be a line/lots of people waiting. Set your expectations accordingly. As of the posting of this review: Suite A = SS benefits related inquiries Suite B = name change / SS card new or replacement You need to be aware that even if you show up in the morning (@opening) and you see a long line, read the signs or listen to the security guard as it/they will let you know if you are in line at the right Suite or you need to walk over to the other one depending on your needs. Arrived 10 minutes before opening. Stood in line to get in and then signed in at a kiosk where I received a number/ticket to a window where a representative then took my information and asked what I needed. They logged the information which put me into electronic queue. Sat down and needed to wait for my name to be called for a different representative to then assist me w/my personal matters. 3 hours later (yes) I was able to speak to someone and they were patient and let me take my time. There's free parking, a restroom, chairs and that's it. You should bring something to pass the time and note, no food or drink inside. If you're coming from the city (290) you need to exit at Senate Ave, NOT 529. No way you will make it across the exit lane all the way to the right without risking lives. read more

Went there right before opening and was out within an hour and a half . Very fast and friendly service was able to get my issue resolved .

They open at 9am. I was in line around 8:45. Maybe 20 people in-front if me. I was out of the door at 9:17.

Only giving 1 star because there's not an option for a lower rating. The security guard was a PRICK. I came here to get a name change done with my 2 kids. There were no seats available so I went to stand up along the walls with everyone else. He came up to me and told me I needed to find a seat even if they were separate seats.... yeah that didn't happen. My kids shared a seat as I sat next to them. He comes over 10 minutes later and tells me that if my kids don't have headphones they can't be on their tablet THE SOUND WASN'T EVEN LOUD ENOUGH TO BE HEARD. Meanwhile the lobby is full of people talking and on their phones, so what's really the problem? Get A NEW JOB if you're that miserable!!! read more

3 1/2 hours to get a replacement card. Only 4 tellers working. Tax dollars definitely not spent well here.

I arrived to this office at 9:35 is now 11:00. they have called three numbers since i have been here, yet they have 14 windows to work at and only the express line is moving. There are about 50 to 60 people here waiting and nothing is happening. read more

First, I read all the reviews before I select the SSA office at this location. I found it very easy to come to Dillard Dr, get on hwy 290 North frwy at exit W Little York/ Senate Ave. Second, hell yeah the security guard is scary, fierce and got a unfriendly face, in a way he is only doing his job but I think he can be friendly when he is doing his job at the same time :) Customer service is good and number moves fast. I'm glad to chose this office. read more

Social Security Administration - Traffic not bad at all on a Friday morning - Public Services & Government Near Me - Houston, Texas

See all

They are making disabled senior citizens wait outside for multiple hours. The "guard" threw a chair that one women was using today. My mother nearly passed out waiting to get inside to see about her benefits. They let two people in at a time. Not the most compassionate people in the world to deal with. read more

I am in the process of changing my name, and Per the SS main phone number, I mailed basically all of my government issued ID to this office over a month ago. I've tried calling no less than 10 times, but can never get through to anyone to check status of my documentation. This is unacceptable. I understand these are strange times, so I will hold for hours if that's what needs to be done, but the line always cuts off after about 15min of waiting. This is obviously no trivial matter, so if our government agencies could show a little care and actually take care of stuff that literally holds up people's lives, that'd be great. read more

Came in around 2:45pm was called at 2:55 the lady at window 11 was very kind and gave me the paperwork needed. I sat back down and filled out my paperwork which was ALOT. By the time I was finished, my name was called to window 1 and again great customer service, she was very helpful and was already aware of my case by the information that was given from my check in with the lady in window 11. In total it took me 45 mins to get in and out. No standing in line and no crazy parking this office is very well managed. read more

The trick to not spending your entire LIFE in the waiting area is to arrive 1 hour before closing. The entire place goes into high gear to clear the waiting area so they can go home. On my first visit I arrived at 3pm on a Friday afternoon. I was called surprising quickly after checking in at the kiosk. I may have been sitting for 5 minutes and could feel the burning stares of those that had obviously been waiting a lot longer as I walked past them. The window agent was rather curt. Not rude but I got the feeling he didn't like his job very much. My second visit, 4pm on a Friday afternoon, I was called after about a 10 minute wait. The window agent was at first impatient. After I made her realize I had my ducks in a row, she worked quickly to complete my application. All news isn't good news though. I should expect to wait 3 to 4 months for a decision. REALLY?!? Overall, good visit. Over the past few years, I've noticed a shift in the attitudes of quite a few government employees. Nice change. read more

Yes. I can't believe it either but I am actually giving a social security office FIVE FLIPPING STARS! Okay so I was there an hour before they opened and was within the first ten people in line. They started letting us queue and check in fifteen minutes before opening time. The police officer was very friendly, he explained the processes loudly but without being rude, answering questions and not being a d-bag. I barely waited ten minutes before my name was called and the lady behind the window was very polite, very informative, not snappy, and just very accommodating. I mean I was in and out within 45 minutes(NOT counting the arrival wait period). It is a breeze, long as ur first in line. I'm really impressed that a city this big gave such great service from a public office. Awesomeness! read more

Well, after 5 years of putting it off, I finally walked in to the SSA office to officially update my maiden name to my husband's name. I couldn't be bothered earlier with all the travel I do, but something about being 7 months pregnant put this at the top of my errands list. I highly value Melissa T's reviews when it comes to service and efficiency, as she is a former coworker of mine, so I made the trek from Montrose to Jersey Village to have my SS record updated with my "new" name. I came prepared, having printed and completed the required forms prior to coming onsite. Good thing too, as there is a security guard that won't let you get in queue until your paperwork is complete. Upon parking, you'll see a sign to the side entrance for the "Card Center". Go here for any inquiries related to your SS card. All other business is routed through the main entrance. When you get to the Card Center, the security guard will check to see if you have your paperwork completed and guide you to the self-service check in. Here you type in your SS #, and you get a ticket with your number in the queue. Have a seat and wait until your number is called via loudspeaker. Numbers are also displayed on an LCD screen. My number was called within 5 minutes of checking in. I was assisted by a very pleasant lady, who got me out the door within 10 minutes. I spent less than 15 minutes total here! Amazing for any government office and totally worth the drive. 5 stars! read more

I'm just wondering why our tax payer dollars are paying employees that are RUDE AND LAZY. I was there for 1.5 hours and they called SEVEN PEOPLE. SEVEN! Oh, and theres still 57 people in front of me. That means that out of ALL their employees, 1 person is getting helped every 12 minutes. Is only 1 person working? Or half a person? There is absolutely no excuse for this. The security guard at the front is rude-- we get it, we don't want to be here either but it's your JOB! Customer service people, it's not that difficult. read more
