The representative was not helpful at all, she was rude. You work more then half your life & you get this rude person who gives the wrong information, when I tell her I've waited until age 70 & thought I would receive more then her quote, she looked again on the computer as if I was bothering her and grudgingly told me another higher amount. Came in here on a Weds 15mins before opening. Already 20 people in line. The security lady was professional, patient. Good stuff good start. My number gets called in about 20mins, get to window #5, and this is where the minus 5 stars happens. I approach the window and this asian women already has that look on her face, the face of "what do u want and it better be quick" (of course) i was already prepared for that kinda attitude from these govt workers... no big deal. I greeted her with a smile and of course i get nothing in return. I start explaining i'm here to get my daughter applied for SSI and she immediately goes, "u make income? U work?" I told her yes, me and my wife both work and then was asked, "how much? How much tax? How much take home?" Woman, FYI its called gross income and net income if you would like to operate your own job smoother since u LOVE ur job as i can tell by the look of ur face and ur attitude. (Ur the one who signed up for this job, there aint no gun to ur head making u do a job u hate. Ur not a tree, if u dont like it, move) anyways, this is where she starts her collapse... she asks me what city i live in, i tell her "San Gabriel" and as she is typing in my address, she asks what city AGAIN! I thought she meant the zipcode so i gave her the zipcode only this time and she STILL ASKED ME "what city?" I tell her "SAN GABRIEL, i just told you" and she snaps back saying, "NO, u told me alhambra" ....are u kidding me? This women accuses me of me not knowing my own home address. I instantly checked her and told her, "no i didnt, i never said alhambra, dont ever say that" and she got ALL bent outta shape. She then proceeded to give me an appointment to "formally deny" my request as she said we made WAY TOO MUCH MONEY were her exact words. She slaps paperwork in front of me for my appointment on the table, gives me a date to come back. I leave the window as i have had enough of this miserable womens face and realize there is no time on the appointment date nor did she state a time. So i had to go back one more time to see this fraud and tell her, "i didnt get a time on the appointment" she says, "1pm" like it was the 2nd time she told me that, and i had to check her one last time, "u never said that" This miserable women's name is Chang, Chen, Cheng one of those... of course this women wouldnt be wearing a nametag or else some unlucky person would have a full time job just sorting all the grievances/complaints made on this women. read more

Do not go to this Social Security office if you have a complicated issue. The workers are not thorough and just wants you outta here as quickly as possible. Worst experience ever. My driver's license was stolen so I went to the DMV for a copy. Unfortunately when I got married in 1992 I was told there was a glitch in the Social Security System and they were unable to change my name to my married name. I tried a few years later and same type of issue. My accountant, employer of 34 years and attorney told me not to worry about it and to just use an AKA. That worked for 27 years. Until I tried to get a copy of my driver's license. The DMV gave me a 90 day temporary paper license and said if I didn't get my name corrected at Social Security then my license would be revoked. I called Social Security and they told me to bring my Passport and a certified copy of my Marriage Certificate, which I did. I also have two old passports and a couple of drivers licenses in my maiden name. I was told in the Alhambra office that the printing was too light on my marriage certificate and even if it was darker they still wouldn't be able to finally correct my SS number to my married name. They said I needed a current valid ID with my maiden name or they would not be able to correct my SS number to my married name even though my Passport is in my married name and my driver's license has been in my married name since 1992. (I also had an expired driver's license in my married name.) I tried to explain that I haven't used my maiden name since 1992 and again that I had tried to have SS change it on more than one occasion. The lady looked me square in the face and said "If you don't have a current Valid ID with your maiden name, we will not change you SS name because your maiden name has no connection with your married name." I asked her to check the public records of marriages on the internet because it's easy to find and she would see the connection as listed on the certified copy of the marriage certificate. Again, she rudely looked at me and this time said, "we don't have access to that. These are the rules." I started to cry because I was terrified that at age 59 I was going lose my driving privileges. So she called the Security Guard and they threw me out. TODAY I WENT TO THE PASADENA OFFICE WITH ALL OF THE SAME DOCUMENTS AND THE GENTLEMAN WHO HELPED ME, MR. DAILY, HELPED ME...NOT A SINGLE ISSUE...PROCESSED THE CORRECTION IN LESS THAN 15 MINUTES. read more

Horrible customer service. They are very rude and unhelpful!!! Try to avoid this office. Go somewhere else

Got there at about 8:40 this morning, there were about 12-20 people inline already. They tried to orderly line people up at 9 and started letting people into the inside waiting room. They will not answer any questions prior to being called! Security officer was relatively light humored but every time he guided someone into the single file line - he'd put his hand on their shoulder to guide them - maybe just ask people to stand somewhere and not touch them. They let the few older handicapped people in wheel chairs sit inside. Didn't push them up in line but at least got them inside to sit which was really nice. My number was called by around 9:30 and took the lady at the counter all of 5 minutes to process my update. Very easy process. Guard and staff all multilingual. This is the first SSA office I have been too so nothing to compare it to but didn't seem bad to me! Park on the street. There is literally not a parking lot for customers. Think there are two handicapped spaces and two parallel parking spaces on the side of the building but the rest behind appears to be staff parking. read more

I have to agree with the other reviews for this Social Security office in Alhambra. We had received a letter from the social security office asking that we visit the office to provide more information so that they can process the application we have filed. In the letter it did not state what exact documents were needed, but it did state to bring the letter along so that it would be easier for them to help us. I explained the letter to my parents and told them to go to the social security office in Alhambra to ask what documents are needed as they would not disclose that information to me over the phone. Since my parents can't speak English very well, I told them to make sure to get an interpreter there. Fast forward to the day my parents went to the office, I get a call and it was a lady from the social security office. She stated her name and says she is with my parents and says "your parents did not bring in the proper documents so we can't process the application". I replied back and asked "What exact documents were needed? The letter that was sent to us did not state what documents were needed and when we called the office, we were told they cannot disclose that information and to visit the office." Instead of answering my questions, she dodges my questions and says that our application was never submitted. Okay, so if our application was never submitted, how did you know we applied and to send us a letter telling us to visit the office to submit documents? The lady continues on to say that I have to go back into the account and press submit. At this point, I have heard enough from her and her rude attitude towards my parents and me. I asked for her info and sarcastically thanked her for her time. I called my parents when they arrived home to get their version of the story. My parents said the lady who helped them is black and right from the beginning she was already very rude towards them and kept saying they didn't have the documents and they can't process the application. My parents explained the situation and that's when the black lady seem to kind of lost it and decided to call me. After this experience, I decided not to go back to the Alhambra office and went to another office which actually helped me in getting the application finalized without any display of attitude. read more

Stop by today to get a replacement ss card I really don't like having to deal w city or county workers bc most of the time they r rude and unpleasant.... Well thankfully this place totally broke that streak! I came in w my 2yr old at like 11am and there was a line out the door! The security guard came and said hi to us and asked what my schedule was like, he then proceeded to tell me that the best time of day to stop in is at around 330 right b4 closing. So thankfully I did that bc the wait was about 2hrs at 11am So we came back at 315 and walked right in. The kiosk to check in is super easy to use and we sat down to wait for 12numbers ahead of us that took about 30mins. During the wait the same super nice security guard came over and offered my daughter a pie of headphones to listen to my phone while we waited so as to not disturb anyone bc they r very strict about phone usage. The clerk who helped me was super nice and super helpful. All it took was my Cali id and like 10mins. I was very pleased w the whole process! read more

I had a pleasant experience. On a Friday at 3:30pm. The security guard helped me and others after me. Got seated and was called up in less then 10 minutes with atleast 13 others before me. The stubby Mexican guy (Don't Meen to sound mean or racist I just want you to know who I'm talking about since I failed to get his name) had me sitting for no more then 2 minutes for replacement cards. The office should have a front desk staff to help people so that people without the the proper documents do not need to wait for a long time and be asked to leave rudely. The staff behind the window is rude,unhelpful and unknowledgable, she just wants you leave soon if your documents are not quite right! read more

I have not had any problems at this office. My husband applied there when they were further north on Garfield, and was approved for his Social Security disability. So few people that are served by this office actually speak English, and that holds things up, constantly getting interpreters. Anyway, I hear the office may be closing down soon, so maybe you will get better service at another location. read more

I went there on 01/17/14 (Fri) @ 9:30am. As soon as I parked my car in the back parking lot, a lady who works there announced "I decided to close office for today because of too much smoke". Yes, Glendora Mt. wild fire was still going on, there were smells of smokes outside BUT all other neighboring business and schools were open!!! I walked my kids to school that morning! They stay inside all day (until 3PM on Friday) and complained about smells outside??? Ridiculous! Selfish and doesn't care about who needs their service. HORRIBLE!!! read more

I went this morning with my husband, it was a very unpleasant experience. The employee who sat down with us, Ms. Haslip, was rude and had a serious attitude problem. First of all, she didn't allow my husband to move his chair for me to have more space. Second, she refused to talk to me because the appointment only listed my husband's name, even after we explained to her we did make the appointment for the both of us, otherwise why would I come with him? Third, when we asked questions in a very polite way, she started to roll her eyes and said "I told you already." After 5 to 10 minutes, she left her desk and brought a female security guard to stand behind her. Really? We didn't even raise our voices, we just wanted an answer from her, that's all! It was an extreme expression to show us that she was the one in control. When we asked for her name she refused, and the security guard refused to provide it as well until we insisted. I don't think this is an occasional situation for her to have a bad day, it's just a habit which probably happens daily. She never planned on being polite or helpful from the very beginning, so I don't know why she's still employed there. I'm only giving one star because Yelp requires it, but this is a 0 star establishment. read more

First of all, this is a nice facility and they have direct translation service for the Chinese community. Though I am not Chinese and I didn't require translation. The Hispanic lady who served me can't tell the difference between marriage certificate and marriage license. She kept asking for the ORIGINAL marriage certificate (the one that has been submitted to the county). I tried to explain to her I turned that one in to the county already, and I had to purchased a "Customer Copy" one for name changing (which was advised by the people working at the LA County). Then she asked me where is the stamp on that certified copy and she used her stamp on a piece of paper "STAMP LIKE THIS". I said I don't know if they were supposed to put a stamp on it and I don't know why they didn't. I know I purchased that copy from LA County, it is not a photocopy. And I was told to purchase it to change my name with SSA and DMV. The marriage license won't arrive in 6-8 weeks, which she kept calling that is the original blue marriage certificate. The lady kept yelling at me, showing her ring and saying she IS MARRIED and she knows what she is saying. Wow Congrats on your marriage!! And this is unprofessional. You can't apply your life situation to everyone's, because it is very limited. You're just one person and you're serving millions of taxpayers. I don't really care if she is married or not and there is no need to show me her ring. I want to have my paperwork done early. I'm working, paying taxes and ss# is for tax purposes. She is working on my tax money and I don't know why she has to make it so hard for me to do the right thing. Well guess what?! I went to the Pasadena office, where they can tell the difference between a photocopy and a copy issued by the County. The worker who served me might not be married but he knows his stuff and he can tell the difference of documents. Plus, parking is a lot better. read more

i really even don't want to put one star at all for this social security office, this one at alhambra,ca.91801 it's absolutely so sucks and very poor services based on the services knowledge.well because this one lady so all the employee of this office building got the bad image the lady serve always in window 2 ,forget her name but not on her face, made me wait on my replacement ss card based on updating status for 1 month with nothing came with the mail which she putted wrong at the add,when i came first time to work on my matter to the office ,she did not even want to look to their small paper out of procedure of personal data that everybody fill up including me instead strike me with question of what my immigration status. i showed some proof legal documents that support my appeal but she always assume that all of those can't be used and useless, the more make me disappoint is i have another doc that i wanted to show but she not even look at it or receive it, she refused to take a look and try to exam it and back to rejection that i can't update my ss status and have my replacement card.Total of this bullshit made me wait for 1month and 1 week. all these moment happent twice on my second visit also to deal with my concern after waited for a month and 1 week,same shit this lady said and unlucky i was been called at this lady again, after all i finally decided to go to other location of the ss office and i surprisingly i got good serviced upon my concern and got my card in 10 days early than scheduled for 2 weeks process. i hope this all reviews from yelp could be heard and go thru to the headquater of the office for all during these times along this madness service been host well in this ss admin building! why made people think and assume they are racist?! why you guys particularly this lady judge so fast without do carefully examination and want to fast the service to next so my concern based on the legal right and legit was not fair and made frustration?! i paid my tax, i am independent, to give my tax money to give you a job and your salary,what a damn return you make?!
