You absolutely have to see a film at the Old Town Music Hall!!!!…read more We went for my partners birthday and it was so exciting to see the 100 year old Wurlitzer in all its glory. We saw a rare Gloria Swanson silent film along w a talk by a brilliant film historian. Every show opens with a little performance but we were lucky enough to see a silent film which means that the organist live scores the entire film just as it would have been done in the 20s ! Such a special experience, and a must for any fans of music, film, and LA history.

I'm constantly going to revival and old theaters like The Egyptian, New Beverly, and Aero theatre and wanted to add this one to the rotation. Essentially, they transport you back in time to the early 20th century when movie theaters started taking off! And not just about the old films they show, we're talking OG Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle and lobby cards and photos on the wall. A giant Wurlitzer organ where our organist started off the night's festivities with a few words of history and a few songs on the organ. We even did some sing-alongs lol. Everyone in the red vests are volunteers keeping this running. You can sense the deep passion they all have for preserving this history and a deep love of cinema. Got a brochure calendar for showings through June and will now make sure I come out at least once a month.

The Year in Music:…read more On Monday Night in a Closed Museum, the Grammy Museum held it's first, in what it expects to be annual, "Year in Music Forum", with 5 guest speakers, who among them totaled decades of experience in the music business. The Panel proceeded in informal fashion led by moderator Robert Santelli, instrumental in the development of the Grammy Museum, and long affiliated with The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Questions were put to music critics, music journalists, and music professors. Seated on the panel were: Josh Kun: Associate Professor at the Annenburg School, USC Lorraine Ali: Newsweek, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Spin Mag Phil Gallo: Variety, LA Times. Gail Mitchell: Billboard's R&B, Hip-Hop editor Sarah Bennett: The one fresh face, an editor & writer at USC The searching question was the one on the minds of every music professional, regardless be it the lowly sell my Merch at a dive club musician before I climb back in the van and drive 375 miles to my next location wondering if I have enough gas & will break down ..... to radio station execs, recording industry executives, and consumers streaming & ripping. * Where is music trending? * What devices will people settle on for music listening, or will they ever settle? * Is there a major world star out there? An umbrella star who captures everyone's attention? Or are there tiny corners where some people listen to cumbia & reggaeton, while others listen to Bollywood & Bangra, & still others listen to Taylor Swift & Mylie Cyrus .... ok this panel didn't have much love for the last two, but just a point. * How can anyone ever get paid again? * Are there taste makers out there any more or does everyone just listen to whatever the F they want to, regardless of the critics? Let us say the discussion was lively. Nothing was settled. And for the most part it was agreed that with music streaming from areas as diverse as the Ganges, the Amazon, and the Tigres-Euphrates, that never again will there be a music industry in it's Glory Days that can dictate consumer tastes and spending. Disclaimer: This is not a review of the Grammy Museum itself. The Museum Exhibits were closed at that hour, and this was a Panel Discussion.

This is regarding the Building Section. We purchased a single family home in Azusa and want to do…read moreeverything permitted and to code, which we expected the City would gladly support. In the Fall of last year, it took multiple calls to get John out to the residence to inspect. He kept canceling or not showing at all. We seemed to be putting him out whenever we asked for documentation. Finally, we had to go down there in person and talk to the Building Official to get anyone out. I figured it was a one-off and moved past it. Now we have a wonderful subcontractor who has installed a central HVAC and we're reliving the same hell from Fall. And yes, we have Inspector John again. He makes an appointment and then claims at the last minute "we're not on his route." WTF? After scheduling time off work and childcare for the two young kids AND the subcontractor who is present to answer any technical questions. I'm writing today because it is evident that a) this isn't a "one off" and the City truly needs to do the right thing and make it less painful to be code compliant, and 2) it is evident that the Building Section has forgotten their fabled mission statement. Perhaps this level of service remains allowable because being code compliant isn't a choice. It is unfortunate that they practice striving to the lowest standard of service. Let me take the time right now to remind them of it... The mission statement of the Building Section: The City of Azusa Building Section is committed to providing the citizens of Azusa with efficient and courteous services, with the goal of improving the quality of life through the enforcement of state and local building codes.

So what does the city do with the money they charge their residents. You cant fix your house without getting a permit. Seriously come on. Well I guess thats why people who move here leave here within a couple of years. And im one of them. I guess thats why the city will never grow into a flourishing community with all these charges.
