We started with the Toros 20 years ago when they were a small club. It was great. Now my grandson…read moreis old enough to play with the OV club. It has been nothing but a disappointment. This last weekend was an example, so disorganized. Lots of money paid for nothing but scrimmages. I expected more from the organization. Just like when my grandsons father played. VERY disappointing to say the least!!!! We were not the only ones, other parents were just as disappointed!

Unresponsive management who'd rather dissemble than be transparent about program goals. A shame,…read moregiven it's one of the only large programs in South Valley. I don't know of a good alternative unless you are willing to commute to San Jose or farther away (probably worth looking around if you are frustrated by getting the blow-off). Be more specific, you say? Certainly! Although the stated goal is for kids to learn - particularly in younger age groups - the teams are nevertheless sorted by ability in some nebulous fashion. If your kid loves the game and wants to move up, what do they need to improve/what do they need to be able to demonstrate? It almost doesn't matter since movement is not permitted. Oh, you'll get a story about how there will be "opportunities" to "play up" as a "guest player" - but those'll be as scarce as grass around a hog's trough. Instead, there will be opportunities to fill in for the next team down when they don't have enough players to fill the bench for a game, but that's hardly the same kind of experience. What are the coaches looking for at tryouts? Who knows? They don't say. Does individual performance matter as much or more than teamwork? Again, who knows? How can an organization focused on learning and growth be effective without feedback? How about this explanation given to us after we sweated the director for any kind of detail at all about how they decided where to place him: "yes, your son dominates by using his size to gain advantage - later, when other kids catch up in size, he'll lose that and he'll have to rely on his other skills which need improvement." Sounds plausible. The obvious thing to do is to put him with kids his size so he develops other tactics, right? Obvious to you and me, maybe, but not to the director (who knows why not). The league also has the audacity to claim that one must accept an "offer" to join a team within 24-48 hours or "lose the spot." "We want people who want to be with us." What kind of pressure tactics are these? Not cool and really, reflect that the management are focused on something other than growth for kids.
