Mercado El Popo is really meant to be a local farmer's market and not one that caters to tourists or those looking for an adventure through sites and smells. They sell lots of local items meant for the household along with groceries and spices. Sure, tourists may be able to find something of interest, but the market itself is really not meant for that demographic.
Additionally, the market is very small and you can walk through its entirety in less than five minutes. Part of me is glad that its left untapped so to speak from the outside world, but as a visitor I'd recommend passing and exploring other parts of town.
