Good pours and all the wines were low alcohol. They try and make them as natural as possible and are smaller batches than bigger wineries and labels. Friendly service as well. My only critique are the stools, they were really uncomfortable so sitting there for the whole tasting was not fun. We purchased one bottle and could have maybe purchased a couple others but we opted not to. I will also mention that there was a slight push to try and buy bottles at the end. Stopping short of saying "you should buy some bottles" but a lot of "nudges" and "hints" about buying bottles. We would definitely come back to try other pours.

I'm not one for white wines and I even loved their white varietals, so that should speak volumes! The staff member during our visit was very friendly and had excellent taste in music. The pours were generous as well, more so than a usual wine tasting! It was fun to sip wine and they even let us pick a vinyl to play while we visited. We were so impressed by the wine that we even joined their wine club. I can't wait to receive the first shipment! I'm also already planning our next visit to this tasting room, which is located in an awesome one road town. Located across the street from The Alamo Motel, where we stayed for the weekend, so we just walked across the street for our tasting. It really doesn't get much better than that! I definitely suggest making a trip to this charming wine tasting room and finding out for yourself what a treasure it is.

He was very friendly and knowledgeable not only about the wines, but about the estate and the land. The scenery was about as serene and peaceful as one could ask for (I was the only customer there albeit). They only take reservations, which makes sense since they probably would want to control the number of people at any given time and therefore enhance the wine tasting experience. The wines were delicious; I was particularly fond of the Syrah and up getting 3 bottles (which waived my tasting fee). I'm told they have some events during the summer months (live music, food trucks etc.) so I'll be sure to check it out next time. Overall, one of the best experiences I've had so far. Will definitely return again soon!

It was the first of five tastings we did during our weekend in town, and the wines were, admittedly, the least impressive. They went down easy, though, and we had a pleasant visit. We checked into our hotel on Friday around 5:30 and quickly realized that all the wineries on our list were closed. We asked the receptionist where we might be able to do a tasting, and she said Carhartt was our best bet. It was quite open when we walked in, almost intimidatingly so, the live music loud as we rounded the sidewalk outside the enclosed patio. Jack welcomed us into the tasting room and suggested we do a vibe check on the patio before deciding where to sit. We peeked outside and it seemed fun in a way we weren't looking for, a bit of a party atmosphere with a live band and a lot of people. We took our seats in the quieter tasting room, where we were able to enjoy the music from a distance while we drank some wine. We both did the house tasting, which came with five pours of Carhartt wines: the 2024 Top Branch, the 2022 Sin Nada, the 2022 Sangiovese, the 2022 Rebel Roan, and the 2020 Northerly. Jack also gave us a taste of the 2021 Graciano. They were all nice wines, but we particularly liked the Sin Nada, the Sangiovese, and the Graciano, and took home two bottles of each, getting one $25 tasting fee waived with each purchase of three bottles. Jack was a great host, and he told us all about the wines and winery as we went along. (He pre-empted our first question, saying that yes, they were the same Carhartts as the Carhartt clothing label, but not the same company. I guess just the classic generational wealth to winemaking pipeline.) It was a helpful introduction to both the Carhartt wines and Los Olivos, and Jack was good company. I said Carhartt was the least impressive of the wineries we visited, but it's also worth noting that it had the lowest price point. Carhartt isn't gunning for Robert Parker ratings. The wines are accessible and tasty, and I have a feeling we'll go through our bottles very fast.

Our group of 5 all ordered $30 wine tastings where we were not allowed to actually select the wines to taste. When I asked what wines would be included, the server identified several on the menu and unfortunately only half of these ended up being included in the final tasting. As our group began to enjoy our tasting, the staff unexpectedly took our heater away to warm a 2 top table without ever asking our group if we still wanted the heater (we did, it was 50 degrees out). One person in our group brought out a leftover bite of baguette from a previous stop in town and was QUICKLY alerted by the owner with the wag of a finger and note that "they sell food there and she can't bite her own food." The owner waited until my friend put her small bite in her purse before walking away. When checking out, the server told us we'd need to pay via one card only (fine) and proceeded to watch closely as my friend chose her gratuity option (rude). Although we selected a nice 20% tip on the screen prompt, the actual math shook out to a 24% tip without us ever agreeing to it. Short story: - Too expensive - Rude - Performative, white-centric feminism - Not worth visiting when there are so many other great options close by

Standard Flight: $20/3 pours…read more This review covers two visits, one midweek in 2025 and one two weeks ago on a Friday. It's an interesting setup, as there is a separate room for Lumen Wines, however we were told that the tastings are done at the adjoining Pico restaurant. The nice thing is that because of the restaurant, you can do the tastings later in the day, after the other wineries in town have closed. I also noticed on their website that there's a garden patio as well. My one gripe is that on both visits, no one directly related to the wines was there to interact with us. The restaurant's staff provided all the tastings and wine info. WINES: Lumen's wines are hand-crafted with minimal intervention and made from grapes sourced from sustainable local vineyards, and their estate vineyards, which are farmed organically. Usually, this would make me skeptical, as wines like that do not typically match my wife and my palates. So, on our first visit, we tried a flight of their wines ('21 Chardonnay, '21 Pinot Noir, and a '21 Grenache), including a couple extra pours, like their Escence orange wine and the "Hey Ginger" Pet Nat. On this past visit, Pico was offering a 20th Anniversary special: a French Fries appetizer and a bottle of wine (your choice) for $30, so we opted to get a bottle of the '23 SBC Chardonnay which was excellent. All the wines were well-made, and I really enjoyed them, especially the Ginger Pet Nat, which was quite unique. Of course we took a couple bottles home with us. Overall, it's a nice winery to stop in and enjoy a tasting, glass, or bottle with lunch or dinner.

One of the best things about Foxen is that they truly have something for everyone whether you're into Pinot Noir, old world style red blends, whites or rosé. Every time we visit there's always something new and interesting to try. I'm a bit of a wine nerd, so I really appreciate how knowledgeable and passionate the team is. It's always fun being able to go deeper into the winemaking process and really talk through vineyard sourcing, production methods and the style behind each wine instead of just doing a standard tasting. You can tell there's a lot of thought and care put into what they produce. The ambience is also fantastic at both locations. The main tasting room has a great relaxed atmosphere and the Shack has its own iconic vibe. Definitely try to visit both if you get the chance because the tasting menus are different and it's a great way to experience a wider variety of wines.
