They make their own syrups in house which is a nice touch but this is definitely a place that lets the coffee shine. You can tell they roast their own beans and care more about highlighting the actual flavor of the coffee rather than masking it with a ton of sweetness. If you prefer your drinks on the sweeter side, I'd definitely recommend asking for a good bit of extra syrup. Every time we come we get coffee from Refuge, it's smooth, delicious and maybe the best in town. However, every time we have come here, they are out of most of their baked goods. We would love to come to sit and enjoy breakfast. If you're just coming for coffee to go, this is the place. But if you want to stay a while and maybe eat breakfast or enjoy a treat, you may be disappointed. Not only are they out of food most of the time their furniture is hard surfaces and uncomfortable to sit on. Not a place to stay a while, it's a shame too because it's a great little place. I checked my husband drink to make sure it wasn't just a mix up between cups - but his was definitely an americano.
