This is our first visit here. Some of our camping friends came up and asked us to join them. This is part of the 1000 trails membership. We have been with 1000 trails for 2 years. They can be awesome and cheap if you know how to use the memebership as well if you like to camp. This place is beautiful. The lake was full. Midweek and post-Covid not too packed. We had fun here and the customer service was a bit lacking but I think (hope it's due to Covid) We will definitely

We booked a site with Snowflower via Thousand Trails but they are a first come, first served site even if you book a reservation which can be hectic now that camping season is upon us. We arrived and checked in, the front gate lady was a bit short and unfriendly but no big deal. The site map she gave us was a little confusing but we eventually were able to navigate it. The playground is just swings and the pool is closed for what seems indefinitely. Bathrooms were decent. Since about 90% of the people here are RV/trailer campers and they have their own bathrooms and showers in their rig the bathrooms were always empty. Showers are free and have decent lasting hot water which was nice to defrost from the freezing nighttime temps. They warned bears were an issue and to make sure all trash and food was secured. While there we did have 1 sighting of a bear but it was up by the entrance so not roaming through our site but I guess it does happen often. Lots of other reviews complained of dust and bugs...well duh you're outside in the woods. I will say the dust wasn't that bad. People driving by kicked up some dust but as long as they abided by the 5 mph speed limit it settled quickly. We didn't have an issue with mosquitos at all, but large ants...yes! The camp sites are small so it can be a pain if you have a larger camper and you are pretty close to your neighbors. This site was super quiet! They have a no loud sound rule after 10pm but it was dead silent by 8pm and everyone was in their campers already, it was odd as most places we've been have been lively with music and laughter with people around campfires. Overall it was a decent site and appeared well kept up. We would return once we get our camper, no more tent camping as it was just wayyyy too cold at night.

beautiful location near Truckee. make sure to make bug spray for sure, as the lake attracts lots of insects. the reason for the deduction in stars is because the campground could use a bit of TLC. for example: general maintenance in the bathrooms, some sites electricity doesn't work, power surges, etc. ive camped at many different Thousand Trails all over CA, and various west coast states, and you can tell campgrounds that keep up maintenance versus those who don't. it's not updated to keep up with these larger rigs that take more power.

The lake and beautiful scenery.

Okay, let's start with the bad. When you check in they give you a map to find your area. The map is absolutely no help at all and signage throughout the camp grounds is almost non existent. We drove all over the camp grounds up and down the mountain to find the oak area, which is tent camping. There is a sign about 4 inches wide as you go into the oak section that says 4wheel drive suggested. One of my kids drove their own car which got stuck in the rock and gravel many times. It should say on website that you need to bring a 4wheel drive vehicle. It took 70 min from check in to make it to our site. The area we camp in was far from others which ment a whole bathroom area to ourselves. The bathroom was awesome and super clean with toilet sink and huge shower. To get to any activities from our camp site was a 8-12 min drive. The lake was warm and great for swimming. The pool is nice and clean and up kept well. Great time except trying to find camp.

We were so thrilled to find this clean, family-friendly resort with its own (warm!) little lake in the high sierras. To top it off, everyone here appears to be very friendly and generous (loaning our group their inflatables). But our group's collective joy was short lived after we were beseeched with mosquitos. We spent the weekend trying to figure out why this camp is more bug-ridden than others and concluded that it is likely due to limited air currents through this secluded part of the forest. To be fair, other camp groups appear to have a perfectly good time despite being eaten alive. Unfortunately, our group was driven indoors and spent the weekend at other parts of Lake Tahoe.

This is the most amazing campground we have ever been to. I've never seen a more beautiful and vast amount of sites, some on the lake and some in the mountains. This spot we found #23 was near a bathroom and it was immaculate, the shower had better pressure than our shower at home. Can't wait to go back, great staff and location. Why camp anywhere else? I couldn't believe that the spaces even way up on the mountain had hook ups! Even with the smoke, the stars at night were amazing. The lake is beautiful, next time we will be on it in our kayaks. I cannot stress enough, this is the best campground in California that I have seen.

What a fun place this is!! Camp host Vanessa and her son were phenomenal. They were extremely helpful throughout our stay not only in the store but they also hosted excellent children's activities in the lodge and the funnest camp fire sing alongs. We enjoyed the warm little lake, the pool was always shinning and so clean. Pool toilets always clean as well. Friends stayed in a cabin and they loved it also. We saw the cutest bear Cubs. The only negative thing I have to say is they definitely need to fix the plumbing and have more signage. Showers were closed and lodge bathrooms were closed so it's a far walk to take the little to potty from the lodge.

This was by far our best 1000 trails experience yet. The camp host was amazing from the start. So fun and witty with her Australian accent. Yes some spaces are on top of each other especially right at the lake but our spot in the Redwoods section was fantastic. Very remote compared to a lot we've stayed in before. The lake was not crowded. Lots of hiking around the vast wilderness surrounding this campground. The baby bears were a fun addition too. So cute. Would definitely recommend this campground. Looking forward to our next stay here Labor Day weekend.

It's a nice area for kayaker and paddleboarders alike, so we figured the campground would probably be fairly chill as well. WRONG! We booked Site #2 based on the campground map, it looked like it was away from most of the other campsites. Well, the map was grossly exaggerated and Site #1 was right next to us basically staring at us all day. To top it off all of the other campsites were on TOP of each other. PG&E is clearly making their money with the small section of land they have for campgrounds. The real kicker was when we had a family walk right into our camp following the creek looking for crawdads.. the kids literally run right through our hammock setup like it was recess at school. The creek or North Fork of the North Fork American River as it's shown on the map, runs right behind campsites #1 and #2, so you'd think getting either of these, you'd have a bit of privacy? Nope! Inconsiderate rookie campers ruin the experience. Most of us come camping to get a bit of peace and relaxation, here at Lodgepole Campground you'll be hearing screaming kids and have people walking right through your campsite completely disregarding your space and privacy. Ohhhh and here's the most awesome thing, the camphosts suck! They are nonexistant and didn't see them once, even when I drove up to their trailer and walked up.. no one came out at all. It's also the ONLY PAID campground I've ever been too that doesn't sell wood for the campers. For $30 a night, there are much better options. I'm starting to see a trend with PG&E campgrounds.

Goose Lake campground is a small Forest Service campground located on the Gold Lake Highway just…read moresouth of the more well-known Gold Lake campground. It is often simply used as overflow for the latter. However, although much smaller than Gold Lake, it is no less beautiful, and the lack of motorized watercraft give it a quieter, more serene appearance. Not camping at the time, we were simply looking for a nice lake to have a picnic by that was accessible by car. In the Lakes Basin area, in spite of what everyone says, this is no mean feat. The forest service seems to assume that the great majority of users have four-wheel-drive vehicles anyway, so no sense wasting money fixing the multitude of hazardous potholes on seemingly every access road. At this campground, we took one look at the dirt campground road and its giant potholes, and aborted an attempt to drive in. Fortunately, off the highway just south of the entrance is a large dirt area to park, fairly devoid of holes, that had a walk-in path to the campground and the lake. Goose Lake is a short walk from that parking area, and if you don't mind sitting on a rock, there is an abundance of beautiful areas to have lunch by and enjoy the water. Even if you only have a short amount of time, Goose Lake is worth a visit. The campground is small, with only 13 spots, and was quite quiet during our midday visit. The big disadvantage to this campground: no water. You would probably need to make visits to nearby Gold Lake and refill water supplies. The vault toilet was clean and relatively odor free. The daily camping fee is only $10, and does not take reservations. To reach the campground, go south on Highway 89 from Graeagle for 2 miles, then proceed south for 12 miles on the Gold Lake Highway. Definitely a four star for day use, but potholes and the lack of water knocks it down a star for camping...

There was no cost adjustment, just a "sorry"... Some of the spots in the front had lake access. The spots in the back have a lake view. You can still access the lake from the spots in the back, but its a pretty steep decent. The spots in the middle do not have lake access but some are pretty private and have lots of shade. Spot 8 has the most privacy and a good amount of distance from the neighbors. Spot 8 is also by a creek. This drowned out the noise other campers made in the evening. Carr Lake was very pretty. However, the main event is Feely lake. Owned and operated by PG&E Getting There (the hard part): It's a good 30-40 minute drive north of Hwy 20 up Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18) to where it splits off to Forest Road 17. From there you will see a giant log with "CARR" spray painted in white with an arrow to the right (pretty awesome, I know). Now you're in for three miles of rocky dirt road... and I mean rough. A road full of rocks ranging from the size of grapefruits to dodge balls... so take is slow and steady. I will warn all sedans or low-clearance vehicles to be extremely careful. I saw many cars bottoming out (a mini cooper and prius among them). Towards the top of the road, you'll need to navigate around some big boulder-like rocks embedded in the road. Here is where most low-clearance vehicles gave up, pulled to the side and decided to walk the rest of the way. I have a two-wheel drive Honda CRV. I decided to give it a whirl and made it up to the parking lot by some miracle. Entry to the Campground: Surprisingly the parking lot was already packed at 4:30pm on a Friday! Who are all these people brave enough to make it up that road? I was impressed. I wasn't quite sure what to expect campsite wise considering it was 4th of July weekend and I was hoping to snag one of the first come, first served sites. I wasn't too optimistic, but I threw on my backpack and decided to take a look around. You want to head to the top of the trail (i.e. the road barricade). There you will see a wood bulletin board of sorts with the campsite rules and a place to leave your nightly fee ($15). You put your cash/check in an envelope and tear off the receipt at the bottom. Put the envelope in the slot on the green post and take the receipt to your campsite of choice. Clip it under your campsite number and voila! Note: The PG&E people are checking to make sure you've done this word to wise, but I have no idea if and how they would "cite" you if you didn't pay. It's kind of the honor system. Surveying the Campsites Right after you walk past the bulletin board there are a number of campsites up off to the right. Some of them were already taken by the time I got there, so I walked on down the road, but I heard from some other seasoned campers that one of the first campsites was one of the best out of the eleven. I continued down the road and saw some absolutely stunning ones! I was thrilled to see a few were empty and available. On 4th of July weekend!! I couldn't believe my luck! After I checked out all the real estate I decided on my beauty, campsite number 8... I think? Can't remember exactly. Also recommended is the very last campsite past the bathrooms (farthest from the parking lot). Totally spectacular lake view. I was jealous. Most of the campsites do not have lake access. You're behind some seriously thick brush with no paths to the lake, but I believe the campsites at the very beginning and the very end do have lake access. Something to keep in mind. Not a deal breaker at all though considering Feeley Lake is just a hop skip and jump up the road and even MORE beautiful! :) The bathrooms are clean, although to get there you have to cross part of a river... a stream really, but might be hard to do in the middle of the night unless you have one of the campsites nearest to the bathrooms. Think hopping from stone to stone or just wading through up to your ankles. The campsites grew fairly crowded as the day went on but I observed there were still two or three out of the eleven campsites that were unoccupied throughout the weekend (I was there Fri-Sun). The crowd level was just enough to feel safe and not too much so that you felt it was cramping your solitude time. If you do end up campsite-less for some unfortunate reason, disperse camping is allowed and I saw a ton of people do it along the Round Lake Trail and Crooked Lakes Trail. This is something I will do next time for sure, as the scenery gets even more spectacular the father down the trail you go, espectially up towards Penner Lake. I will definitely be back here as it is one of my new favorite spots in the Tahoe National Forest. I hope this is helpful! :)
