Up atop the steep, San Francisco-esque street, you'll find Snowbound Books. If you like old, vintage, quaint bookstores (we're talking creaking floorboards), this place is for you! A sizeable selection of books, modern and classic - and a decent children's section, too. Also a great place to find local books / books about the U.P. I mistakenly thought this place would have Half Priced Books prices. Not really - even though the store is older, you're still going to pay pretty close to the cover price.

Very cozy and organized in a really fun and novel way. A lovely selection and Bonnie was incredibly accommodating and sweet to us.

Great indie bookstore and very considerate of my kids. Took the time to help them with their book selections and questions. Go here.

My favorite item is the whitefish bagel. Our last stop before heading home last week, we wanted to get our normal. The whitefish was sold out!! Good and bad... it pushed us to try something different, which was great! We both go the brisket burrito. So good. So much flavor. Portions are huge!

The coffee was decent, not mind-blowing, but it did the job. The mocha was a nice treat, though! The real highlight of this place was the staff. The baristas were super friendly, making the experience feel warm and welcoming. It's clear they enjoy what they do, and it shows in their service. While the food was solid, I'd say the bathroom could use a little more attention. It wasn't as clean as I'd hoped, but it didn't ruin the vibe of the place. One of the coolest things about Fall Rock Cake is the bookstore aspect. You can browse through a variety of books while enjoying your coffee or meal. It's the perfect spot to unwind, especially if you're a book lover! Overall, great atmosphere, friendly service, and a good place to relax and grab a bite.

This is the creepiest used bookstore/headshop/insense store/hippy store ever. So I didn't realize…read morethe porn part until later. We walked in and it's laid out with insense, pro-gay stuff (which was cool), hippy/Indian fabrics etc. First thing we hear is a guy screaming and yelling in the back. We can't see him. Well, ok, the sign says there are books upstairs. Sweet. So we go up and first ting you see is a sign on one of the shelves saying that their co-op owners records were confiscated or something. I couldn't figure out what the point of the sign was. The other one was about shoplifting that rambled on and said that they have better cameras now. Ok so decided to skim the books. Really crappy selection, there is a sign for "Men's science fiction" or something which is weird. So the guy is still yelling downstairs. I decided to leave because it was just uncomfortable with guy who keeps yelling. The "cafe" area is a horder's dream. "Cafe" was blocked off. There was just crap there and appearantly they sell posters and the one featured was a backside of a woman taking off her pants. That wasn't even in good taste. I guess if you are a deprived 19 year old male you might find that hot. So there is a third floor porn shop or something Boyfriend ventured up there and told me there were old playboys, gay porn, old porn and dildos. So I don't know if you go to buy porn there or stay there and watch. Oh and porn on VHS. So I went down the stairs, the guy still yelling, I was just going to leave. There was a cute puppy that ran up to me, super fluffy and so i got to play with it and pet it. Some younger guy was moving boxes into his car and the other guy kept yelling. I gues I was just not paying attention what it was about... Soon after i left. Wow. Like i don't care that the store was headshop/porn shop but it just had a creepy vibe to it. It's like it's made for horny new agey males? Kinda sad if this is the only place for any alternative/new age stuff in Houghton. Oh and they were hiring according to their sign on the door. Maybe if they sell medical pot is how they are making their money. Because it's not based on customer service or atmosphere.
