Okay, I saw a road sign that literally said Tourist Trip Ahead. So of course I had to stop! This one didn't disappoint because it was unique and did not take itself seriously. The shop is actually quite large with tons of fun and weird stuff. Signs, clothing and all types of collectibles. Outside, the entire surrounding area and lot is filled with something of an Upper Michigan Museum. One that totally makes fun of the "Yopper" life style. (A Yooper is someone that lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan). I'll admit, some displays were kind of dumb and outdated, others I didn't even get...but I have to say it was far different than any gift shop I've ever been to. If you're in the U. P. (for whatever reason) and you have nothing to do, stop in. It's free, fun, and you probably have to pee anyway. read more

I was so excited to visit the store today . I have visited it so many times and it has been a pleasure. Today was So much different. I entered the store and the employee was at the cash register area. About 5 mins in shopping a man abruptly entered speaking loudly and reminiscing about the last nights drinking and questioned the young lady at the cash register about why she didn't call him and talking about how she missed out on a good time etc. Then the employee and the obnoxious man embraced. I found it completely uncomfortable and inappropriate. This has been one of my favorite places in the past. Unfortunately, this business lost over $200 today because of this. Da Yoopers Tourist Trap is a place that knows who it is.... a tourist trap! But a fun one. I spent about 30 minutes walking around their oddities yard and they have all sorts of fun things. You get anything from a 1957 Buick named Christine with monster truck tires and a snowplow, a tricycle with tractor tires, a taxidermy deer in an outhouse, and all sorts of other things. Now this is art! The gift shop has everything you would expect in a gift shop but surprisingly reasonably priced. You can get your post cards, refrigerator magnets, shot glasses, t-shirts, or a gazillion other items. read more

Cute little gift shop that has all the UP things. There's a rock store on the lower store that my son loves and gets rocks from.

My husband and I were driving, when we saw a giant sign for a rock shop. We were confused at first, because we walked through this store filled with different souvenirs, but no rocks. We finally realized that there was an additional shop next door. They have a lot of cool souvenirs though, and I found a penguin to add to my collection. We absolutely loved the rock shop. Everything was very fairly priced. I wasn't expecting some items to be so cheap. For example, there was this pretty small iron ore rock that I expected to be priced between $6-8 based on stores I have been to in lower MI. It was $2.99. We looked at a lot of other options, and all of them were much cheaper than I had expected. She even had a massive private collection on display. We saw some petoskeys and yooperlites for a good price. read more

Holy wah, we had fun here! We stopped in and picked up a t-shirt, a few hats and a sticker for the car. The staff was friendly and so helpful! It's a great stop to select mementos from your trip to the Upper Peninsula. Ample parking, free bathrooms and coffee; you owe it to yourself to get here! If you're in the area and want a little humor in your trip take a stop here! It really is a tourist trap but the attractions there are hilarious! The pictures are priceless and all the "junk" is even better! Kept my family and my interest! There is a little Gem store attached to the front so make sure you try that out! They even have a fossilized dinosaur poop there! It's a huge pile of poo!!! But if you're in the UP and after all the pretty Falls you see, you need a fun place to stop, take the family here, he won't be disappointed!!!! read more

My husband and I's first time vacationing in the upper peninsula. We saw the sign on the road and had to turn around and stop. My wife and I lived in the U.P. most of our lives. I think some of the humor in the store is enjoyed more from a yoopers perspective. The people that run the business are members of the Yooper Band. I had a chance to meet Hoolie and had a nice conversation with him. He also autographed a picture of the Yooper Band for us. It was a real great experience for me after listening to the Yoopers for years. We were very happy to stop and shop. Hoolie is one cool dude.? read more

5/13/16 I thought this place was just weird. It would be so much better without the many mannequins (stuffed dummies - whatever) with the creepy masks. I went into the gift shop and the stuffed attitude continued. No one said hello to us and I didn't really feel welcome. My husband, on the other hand, is a Finlander and he loved this place! He walked around the yard laughing his head off. He bought three CDs by Da Yoopers which he excitedly played for us in the car for hours. :) It's free. They do have a decent selection of shirts and Michigan merchandise (albeit a little pricey). I'd suggest going only if you have extra time. read more

Tacky, cheesy, and weird - but also a lot of fun. Count me in as a stick in the mud for not fully understanding the 5 star reviews. This reminds me of the stuff we have in my area (Branson, MO region) poking fun at hillbillies of the Ozarks but with a lot more "Yooper" pride involved than the hillbilly gags. The gift shop is typical but nice, with a very large selection at all price points. I got my sticker fix here. Also, if you or a loved one is of Finnish descent they have a whole section devoted to that! read more

Ditto in regards to Eddie W's review, he's 98.5% correct. Thomas has something growing in his nether region, it's a HUGE tree. Because the jokes are so bad it's a good laugh!! It's great place to stop in and stretch a person's legs, young kids will love it. I'm planning to stop in again the next time I'm in "God's Country." spend some money and make my wallet thinner. They love Trolls and Fudgies spending money but, they're happy when we go over Da bridge and head home. read more

Meh. It's interesting yet pretty tacky. Lots of knick-knacks and other souvenirs if you're in the market for those sort of things. I managed to find a birthday card of all things here. That was it. They had some dog breed gifts, but most of the popular breed types were sold out. There's some pretty bizarre displays on the grounds outside. I guess it's worth seeing once. read more

Interesting things to look at out on the grounds. Hate to say it but I'd been to other gift shops there were larger and had more selection. I did find a few items here though. Clerk was very nice and pleasant to talk to. I really would have liked one of the wind chimes but the big ones I was looking at were $100-$200+ which seemed crazy. The rock shop was kind of neat. Not sure I'd feel the need to stop if I was in the area again. One stop is probably all you need. read more

look, i'm not going to tell you i didn't chuckle once at this place. it's sort of funny, in a campy way. but it's really pretty far over the top; there's no indication about what (in their yard) is real or fake, and some of the fake stuff is so ridiculous that it calls into question some things that, if real, would be pretty cool. all the stuff in the yard is creepy and almost entirely worthless, mostly because of all the weird masks. i will say this for it: it's free. that's a hell of a lot more than i can say for The Mystery Spot. read more

Seriously, how could anyone rate this less than a four? The place cracked me up. We spent over an hour here taking pics of the homemade yard art plus a couple of selfies with the art. Luv'd the worlds largest chainsaw. Some artisans certainly had fun creating this off beat art work. Too bad anyone would rate it less than a four. It is free so what is not too like! I went to school at Da Tech in Houghton and it helps to know a little about the Finnish sense of humor which often times is to poke fun at themselves. Would stop again just to add more "serious" chuckles to my life. read more
