Charles Schulz's Peanuts is taking over Costa Mesa (again)! Snoopy House display at City Hall is available from Dec 14 through Dec 23, from 5:30- 9 pm (with free parking). City Hall is located across the street from the Fair Grounds. This is the 51st year of Snoop House and I am glad that my husband, our little girl dog (yes leashed dogs are allowed, but not allowed to wait in line for photos with Santa. But dogs can take photos with Santa when it is their turn with their human family) and I made a visit this evening. Admission is free for everyone. Cute little buildings and scenes that you may find in Snoopy's neighborhood are on display and some are even photo friendly where you can be in, with Snoopy's dog house and Lucy's Phychitric 5 cent booth. Free train rides are available for the little ones, a snow (yep real snow) play area and free photos with Santa are available (photos with Santa are available 7-9 pm). During our visit, we were able to sip on a free cup of hot apple cider, listen to a live band (played by students from one of the local elementary schools) and marvel at all of the buildings. I love all the little attention to detail and creativity seen in each display and impressed of how cool this place is for a free city event. One of the local high schools were selling some refreshments ($1 for a small bag of baked chocolate chip cookies and $1 for a cup of hot coco). Snoopy House is very cute and worth a visit if you are in the area and definitely a treat for the little ones and fans of the Peanuts comic strip. By the way, a porta potty is available but there is no light inside upon using (consider going somewhere else beforehand to use the restroom, before coming here).

You absolutely have to see a film at the Old Town Music Hall!!!!…read more We went for my partners birthday and it was so exciting to see the 100 year old Wurlitzer in all its glory. We saw a rare Gloria Swanson silent film along w a talk by a brilliant film historian. Every show opens with a little performance but we were lucky enough to see a silent film which means that the organist live scores the entire film just as it would have been done in the 20s ! Such a special experience, and a must for any fans of music, film, and LA history.

Just when you begin to lose faith in humanity, you run into a spot like this…read more I've lived nearby for almost 9 years yet didn't discover this gem until a few months ago. I'm constantly going to revival and old theaters like The Egyptian, New Beverly, and Aero theatre and wanted to add this one to the rotation. Essentially, they transport you back in time to the early 20th century when movie theaters started taking off! And not just about the old films they show, we're talking OG Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle and lobby cards and photos on the wall. A giant Wurlitzer organ where our organist started off the night's festivities with a few words of history and a few songs on the organ. We even did some sing-alongs lol. Everyone in the red vests are volunteers keeping this running. You can sense the deep passion they all have for preserving this history and a deep love of cinema. Got a brochure calendar for showings through June and will now make sure I come out at least once a month.
