After only living in Texas for 2 1/2 years, my grandfather passed away on April 17, 2014. Because he wasn't from here, he did not "plan" to pass & for the events to follow. My grandpa passed in his home (Kempner, TX) from a heart attack. The local sheriff & Judge referred us to Sneeds Funeral Home. We didn't know any different, like we didn't really know we had a "choice" in the matter considering the circumstances. We now know otherwise. Mark Sneed with Sneeds Funeral Home was by for the most unprofessional, insensitive funeral director I have ever dealt with. This being the 3rd funeral I had to coordinate, plan & make arrangements for loved ones in the last 2 years, I would NEVER refer anyone to Sneeds! There were multiple challenges while trying to make funeral arrangements (ie: financial, travel, family etc.). My grandmother has severe dementia. And his daughter lives in MN. I was the constant considering I had managed my grandparents affairs for years. Never did I expect the lack of consideration & disrespect we received by Mark Sneed. After our meeting with him on Saturday, I received a call Monday afternoon from the insurance agent that there may be an issue with his life insurance. My grandfather had changed banks & was late on payment. I was assured that all would be ok... but to inform the funeral not to contact the life insurance company just yet. Which was my next call. Mark Sneed did not have the authorization to call the Life insurance company. However, I was told he had done just that that very morning. We had not signed the Assignment. Immediately, Not only did Mark Sneed say to me, not just once... "If I had known there was an issue I would not have wasted my energy." He said it to me twice in that same conversation. "Wasted my energy" will forever be played in my head when I think of this event. Also, my grandfather had VA Benefits for burial. In the state of Iowa (Which is where he was going to be transferred & buried) and after I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Veterans Affairs... I asked our "Director" Mark Sneed to pass the information on to the funeral home in Iowa. I mean... that is what we were paying him for... his services, which I understood to be part of this. In the state of Iowa, Veterans Affairs work directly with the funeral homes. After the lecture I received of his 24+ years experience and that in Texas funeral homes just don't do that, it's up to the family to get reimbursed from Veterans Affairs directly. Fortunately, when I called VA & the funeral home in Iowa directly, they were very helpful & took care of everything. The day my grandfather's death certificates arrived, we had an appointment to pick them up from Sneeds. I was told there was paperwork that my grandmother had to sign. That paperwork was the Assignment of Benefits from the life insurance company. Mark wasn't available & I told the receptionist that we will be working directly with the insurance company. Within 5 minutes, Mark Sneed text me these words "I need you to come back & sign the assignment or bring me a check now." What????? NOW???? My grandmother signed a contract with Sneed Funeral Home to pay them over $5,000 on or before May 21st. This was May 2nd. The icing on the cake.... My grandfather was born & raised in Sioux City, IA. His great-great grandfather started the church that my grandfather was to be buried in. Not only was the pamphlet at the funeral service here locally in-accurate. I requested it be corrected several times & insisted that his obituary go in the Sioux City Sunday paper. Not only did he not make all of the corrections, my grandfather's picture was not with it and it did not go into the Sunday paper as requested several times... the funeral service up there was that Monday. I sent Mark Sneed an email, text & letter with my disappointment... that his was by far the MOST unpleasant experience ever. I've never received so much an acknowledgement or an apology. Today is May 21st, his check of over $5,000 went into the mail... which he did not deserve what-so-ever. He was disrespectful to me, my family & dishonored my grandfather. Lesson in all of this... PLAN, PLAN, PLAN.... And do not use Sneed Funeral Home in Lampasas, TX read more
