Your first impression will be receiving a friendly greeting from their staff at the counter. When they aren't helping welcome members in, they can be seen actively cleaning so everything is spotless from workout areas to the bathrooms and locker rooms. I don't know how many square feet the facility is, but the layout is great in that workout rooms are divided out so it's not so open and intimidating as other big box gyms I've been to. Whether you want to workout on your own, work with a personal trainer, try CrossFit, powerlifting, or even body building, they have you covered. I used a visa gift card to book my free class. And I really liked the class, they were actually doing 2 free classes at that point in time, so I liked both classes. After the second I signed up for their cheapest membership which was 4 classes/month at $59. Then they ran a thing called Hell Week, where you got a free t-shirt if you did X out of X workouts in a week, I think it was like 5 of 7. This required me to buy more classes, but I got sucked into the challenge. And it was hard, but it was good. So I bumped up to their next level, 8 classes/month for $100. So I was going about 2xs per week. I'm a 38 yr old guy who hasn't really consistently worked out since high school. I had to kind of ease into this and make sure it worked with my schedule. But the workouts worked for me. The coaches work for me. I like the motivation. I like just showing up and having someone tell me what to do. They always show modifications, and I've never had anyone make me feel weak for the size dumbell I pick up, or modified sit-ups because my back hurts. I've increased my stamina and endurance on the treadmills (when I tried running outside last summer I kept getting bad shin splints, the coaches helped me with how to work those out, but the short bursts on the treads mean I don't get the shin splints very often anyways.) I asked the Coach Theo a few weeks ago about signing up for a 5k, and he encouraged me to do so, said I'm running almost that far on the treads in a class, and that I could totally do it. So I signed up for the Reentry & Recovery Fresh Start 5k last weekend and I ended up finishing far before my goal, knowing I could have actually run a little faster, and I bewilderingly won a medal, 2nd place in my age/gender division. It was an amazing feeling. I'm feeling way more strong, fit, energized. I love that there is a kind of team mentality but that it's also about me and my goals and pushing myself and not about anyone else. It's a great way to clear my head and a great start to my day. I'm now signed up for the unlimited classes for the next 6 months and I'm going like 4-5 times per week. You do have to use one of their brand of heart monitors, there's an arm one, a chest strap that's a little cheaper, and I think they're coming out with one that communicates with the Apple Watch? You can borrow one for the free class, rent one if you want each class during the first month if you're checking it out, but it's more cost effective to buy one eventually. Because of the 30 day cancelation policy, basically anytime you decided you want to quit you'll still have to pay for 1 more month. And they also have like 10 class packs. They want you to come in and try the class and then they'll explain the contract stuff to you, but it's not super high pressure. The people are chill and cool. There's a transformation challenge thing coming up in January that involves photos and weigh-ins and cash prize for percentage of weight loss.

There were occasional issues with certain members, including one couple who acted as if others should leave when they arrived. At times, tensions arose, with some individuals seemingly looking for conflicts over minor issues. I had a text exchange with a member of management regarding my account. They abruptly canceled my recurring charges without prior notice or explanation. While they referred to it as a "membership," it was simply a recurring charge on my card. It's something to be aware of--unexpected cancellations can happen without warning. Regarding ownership, I personally did not have the best experience. Additionally, the card they had on file later became involved in a fraud case, which I reported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department. Just a word of caution to those considering joining

If you're an overanalyzer like me, questions might swirl around in your head, such as: will this work out? Could I see you as part of my life? What if I leave mortified?? The #1 thing I will tell you about Crossfit Springfield East is that you will experience a VERY productive hour of working out, including (based on my 2 visits here so far): - group warm up hitting on form for the strength, skill, or movements to come in the workout of the day (WOD) - a strength movement of some sort/EMOM (every minute on the minute) - met con/WOD I was impressed with how sweaty and rewarding a work out I got here on my last visit in August. Coach Mel gave me some great tips to keep in mind for my future training. Each class I've been to has had about 15 participants. For drop ins, the fee is $10. Lastly, I loved the very friendly community here. I was introduced at the beginning of class and greeted with friendly smiles and welcomes. Further case in point: at the end of our exhausting WOD, a friendly older gentleman told me "nice job, Chicago!" and helped me put away my weights. Great camaraderie. The coaches are phenomenal and so lovely. They all learned my name the first day, and they were great about making me feel welcome every time I was there. As a fairly beginner CrossFitter, the coaches paid close attention to my form and offered helpful tips to improve my lifts. This gym feels like a family, and between the support from the coaches and the other athletes-- I was excited to show up and push myself every day. I think this gym is great for someone from any level of fitness. The 5 week period of time that I attended this gym was fully during the covid pandemic, and the coaches did a good job of promoting social distancing and requiring people to thoroughly clean all of their equipment/areas. They require athletes to register/sign in to the classes in advance to ensure that they don't surpass the 18 person capacity. Drop in's cost $10 -- I highly suggest checking this gym out if you are looking for another CrossFit gym or looking to start your fitness journey!
