Came in early when it was too cold to eat a cold dessert-- to order a bionico. Price was reasonable for the location and size of the dessert. Had various fruit options with the usual fixings. The gentleman serving me was friendly and helpful. Lots of place to sit and I did not feel claustrophobic going in there even though it looked cramped from the outside. Will definitely return for more desserts!

My favorite thing about Snacks is the fact that they have a mini mangoneada! It's the perfect size for one person and it always hits the spot. The bottom has a sweet icy mango slush with a good amount of chamoy. It is topped with fresh cut mangoes, more chamoy, tajin, and of course a tamarind stick. So good on a warm day in the Bay! And for $5.50, the price can't be beat! The atmosphere gives off a sense of nostalgia and there's always plenty of seating available inside. Service is quick and efficient--my mangoneada is always ready in less than five minutes.

My second visit. This is one of the placace to get mangonada. It has dessert, food and snack. I came by for the mngonada. It is yummy and served with plenty of fresh mango chunck. Pricewise I think it a bit high but I thinknitvis worth.

Ok hear me out.... I know this place is called Snacks, but DO NOT SLEEP ON THE FOOD. I originally came here looking for paletas for my daughter who has an allergy to dairy and nuts. Normally ice cream is a no-go for her but I'm thankful they had a few flavor paletas (means little stick/ popsicle) that had no major allergens. I haven't had a flavor that I didn't like. But BOOOOOYYY let me tell you about the Super Cubana Torta. That thing is massive. There are so many different flavors going on in that thing that I had savor every bite. Not as greasy as I thought it was going to be. There was Egg, hot dog, tomato, steak, avocado, some kind of chipotle sauce, ham and another kind of deli meat, and ground beef i think?. This might be one of the best Torta's I've ever had. I'll go back anyday for the paletas for my daughter. But that Torta was top tier. My wife had the taco's and she swears they're so good.

I've had Snacks bookmarked for 7 years! They used to have the counter seats with the big bikini booties but I guess they've remodeled to keep up with the changing times. It was a very hot day and we tried the mango smoothie and mangolado -- total $19.92 Snacks is a very authentic Mexican place at the northern end of downtown San Mateo. Everyone speaks Spanish here and I had to google a lot of the menu items to understand what it was. They were very nice here though and offered to help us decipher after we stood there in front of the menu for 10 minutes -- hahaa The drinks tasted very heavy and maybe not something we're used to. I appreciated the experience though. I'm thinking maybe a coconut popsicle would have been more refreshing on a hot day.

This place was okay. I was disturbed by the cashier preparing my food without GLOVES. I watched him as he made my mini bionico which tasted delicious...but he kept wiping his hands on his apron and made my food without gloves. Being a chef that bothers me a lot, Very nice guy . But I won't be returning. Worth a try I suppose. Not wearing gloves while touching ready to eat food (cut fruits) is a big red flag for me.

Like the name says, the place for Snacks! They have quite a few options but what I really wanted was the mangoneada. I really enjoyed the fact that they have a mini one which is the perfect size if you're too full but still want a little sweet treat. Note though that they use like any icy mango shaved ice instead of an ice cream (I didn't mind). Service was friendly and they have a few indoor seats available if needed.

The mangoneada from Snacks has got to be one of the most bizarre-tasting things I've ever tried. My first impression was "wow this is salty" followed by "wait, it's actually quite sour" followed by "it's kind of spicy too"! That's because this Mexican dessert is a bizarre mix of diced mangoes with scoops of icey mango sorbet (sounds tame so far..), but the fruit is then seasoned with chamoy, a strong-tasting condiment made of dried fruit and ground chile! When I got this dessert, the mango was quite crunchy and flavorless (probably not in season), but the exact thing the dish could've used was a hit of sweet flavor to balance out the other strong components! The cup of fruit was topped off with a tamarind straw, basically a straw coated with a sweet, chewy, candy-like paste made of tamarind! All this being said, Snacks was a really cool, quirky cafe with a bunch of different unique Mexican antojitos, including desserts, savory snacks, and tortas. The mangoneada wasn't cheap for what it was, but I'll definitely be back to try out more of their offerings!

I have never really had Mexican dessert like this before. Our Valentine's Day plans got canceled by the venue last minute (UGH!) so after dinner, we did a quick search for a dessert place and this one popped up. We ordered the waffle with chocolate chip ice cream and the Pina Loco. Holy crap fruit overload. Everything tasted so fresh -- for the waffle, the ice cream with condensed milk was an excellent touch and the waffle was perfect. It was topped with various fruits which made the entire waffle just.. so wonderful. For the pina, the pineapple juice was refreshing, with the classic Mexican touch of chili pepper on the straw as well as the fruits on it. I had never been exposed to this kind of Mexican style dessert before and I am LOVING IT!

I always enjoy mangoneadas and the one from Snacks was tasty. This spot was busy on a Thursday evening, so I had to wait awhile for my order to be ready, but it was worth the wait! Plenty of fresh mango and mango ice with all the fixings. The paletas looked delicious as did their other frozen and sweet treats. I look forward to trying other items.

With all the Asian dessert places in San Mateo downtown, it's exciting to find something a little different. I came across this place on Yelp a week ago, and have been there three times in the past week. Their Popsicles are delicious!! So creamy and made with real fruits. I bought 6 this time to take home. The Popsicle flavors are not labeled. I ate one yesterday that was strawberry and cream(that one was easy to tell). Today I ate another that's a orange/mango colored with small black seeds, and it's got a small olive like fruit on the bottom. I honestly have no idea what fruit or flavor it was, but it was creamy, carmel-y, custardy goodness. I have another mystery flavor in the freezer, and I can't wait to taste it tomorrow. I also recommend the mangoneada, and the tostilocos. I have never had either of these in the past. After trying them at Snacks, I'm hooked. Tostilocos comes with corn chips topped with cucumber, jicama, pork skin, peanuts, and chamoy sauce. read more

They have really bad customer service . And the products they sell in taste are less than average . We order an agua fresca, Nuez flavor. We also order a tamarindo raspado. Instead of giving us a an agua fresca they gave us a shake not to mention they came back and charged us and extra $4 dollars for a shake that we never order . The Raspado had no tamarindo , it was all Ice . Needless to say as soon as we walked out and trying what we we order . We threw it out . Never coming back to this place. They take advantage of people who don't know authentic Mexican flavor and will scam you in the process ...SCAMERS with horrible customer service is what I would call them not "Snacks " Ridiculous name btw. read more

Aqui, muy bueno y delicioso las dulces. In my quest and search for Mexican Sweets especially corn in a cup (Elote) I was determined to find a place that served it. When craving I would resort to buying Elote from a particilar vendor who had all the ingredients packed in his cart. He and along with other vendors would line up selling tasty mexican sweets at the bottom of the church steps on Sundays after Spanish mass in Redwood City. My Mexican hermana couldn't even tell me where to find Elote and now I found Snacks and snacks indeed! There are other sweets like Fresca Con Crema and mucho mas! read more

The MANGONADAS is probably one of the best thing I spend my money on! How can something spicy and sweet taste soooo good together?! It was also my first time having a mangonada, and I sure am glad I went here for it. MANGONADA - $5.50 This place sells a lot of mexican desserts in general! They have a bunch of fruits popsicles that will make you drool. You might feel a little sketched coming to this area, but just go anyways hehe. Cheers! read more

This little gem is tucked in downtown San Mateo. Clean location and interesting decor... The freezer with the popsicles look really yummy but I haven't gotten around to trying it just yet. I've only ordered the mangonadas from Snacks. Of all the times I've visited, I am always satisfied with the fresh mangoes, yummy sorbet and the sweet & sour tamarind candy straw! Condiments are available on the counter if you wish to add more spice. read more

Wow! Great concept and amazing price. You will get $20 of fresh cut fruit here for $6 with toppings. I got watermelon, cantaloupe, and mango with condensed milk. Note: Unless you want really soupy fruit, ask them for only a LITTLE drizzle of the condensed milk, or after a few bites, your fruit will be swimming. The fruit could have been a little fresher, but for the price, can't be beat read more

It is huge when an establishment takes its time to make a customer comfortable on what they are getting. I am a complete newbie when it comes to this particular treat. All the ice cream flavors here are directly shipped from Mexico, so that's when I knew it had to be authentic. Workers here are really chill and I loved the songs they're blastin. My bf and I got mangoneadas and frescas con crema. Mangoneadas: so much mango! Towards the middle it does get a little spicy and the mango bits are super drenched. Very legit taste Frescas con crema: omg I loved this so much! It's super delicious and also a lot of strawberries. The strawberries were really crisp and fresh. I did wish there's more yogurt and granola pieces though. I prefer the frescas con crema. An absolutely must try!!! I'll definitely come back again to try their ice cream flavors. Ermahgosh. They use fresh fruit to make juices, shakes and ice cream. Guava ice cream tastes like fresh guava. Helados! Forgot to mention they are super nice and let us sample a lot because we weren't familiar with the menu. read more

Really good Mexican snacks and keep the authentic of it as well. I recommend all their fruit type of snacks especially the biónico and the frseas con crema y banana. The staff is really nice and make the snacks fast and delicious. Forgot to mention their aguas are really good I recommend the horchata! read more

My friends and I got the pina loca w/ takis. It's one of those things you try once because it was underwhelming. Even though it comes in a pineapple they literally put 1/5 of the pineapple chunks. It was mostly root, mangoes, and 4 stars because it's a mom and pop shop and their fruits being fresh. I'm sure the ice cream and mangonadas are better. read more

Their mangonadas are very yummy, love the fact that they have extra chamoy and Tajín on the side if you wish to add more. Fresas con creama can be a hit or miss depending if the strawberries are sweet or not. I recently tried their esquites and did not like it. It has to do with the cheese they use, didn't taste like cheese and was too hard. It made the whole cup inedible. I'll rather buy it from my local elotero next time. read more

The paletas are amazing and freshly made every day. Their ice cream is also really good and they have many flavors you wouldn't have thought of like lucuma! The owner is always around whenever I go and he's super duper nice. He threw in a free paleta de fresa com crema because it melted just a little bit when they were cleaning the freezer. read more

I bought tacos here along with a mangonada Tacos are subpar like almost all the food here in California. Meat is bland and has no flavor. Mangonada has old mangos, doesn't look fresh and extremely dry. Both women there need to fix their attitudes as well. read more

The best service and freshest fruits ever. Always felt welcomed here the moment I step in the shop. The fruits are always fresh. My sister likes getting her mangonada fix here, but it just ain't my cup of tea. I love the fresa con crema. It's my go to. I've always wanted to try their popsicles, but could never stay away from the fresa con crema. They have a whole bunch of other snacks that I have yet to try. I really enjoy coming here. read more

Seconds after walking into this place, it reeked of bleach! But i still decided to give this place a shot. We ordered a few things but in one of our orders (corn in cup w/ cheese), we found a dead white worm. I completely lost my appetite and threw everything away! They have the BEST horchata! And they make it right on the spot, it's not artificial I saw her put in the condensed milk, cinnamon etc and blend it. It was pretty busy and I can see why, their paletas all look delicious too. Very hole in the wall in the quiet part of downtown San Mateo, will be coming back! read more

LOVE the culo chairs. HATE the mangoneada. It's probably an acquired taste, but the flavor combination is straight up wrong (and I'm a Mexican candy and tamarind lover). Spend your $5 on the nieve and paletas instead. read more

MUST TRY. Probably the best mangoneada I've ever tried, yet. Asked my boyfriend to bring me here on a Sunday. When we got there a little after 6pm, it was pretty packed. I loved how they have huge bottles of chamoy and Tajin sitting on the counter so we can help ourselves to more if we'd like. read more

After seeing pictures of variations of mangos & chamoy all over my social media, I was in search of them. I came across this place and my guy and I stopped by the following weekend. It's a small place run by very sweet people. The cashier was patient with me as I stared at the menu, full of Mexican desserts to choose from. I settled on a mangonada and they had it ready for us in about 5 minutes which is just enough time to take pictures on/with their fun derriere-painted chairs. As we were leaving, the guy who made my mangonada quickly let us know where the spoons were so we could enjoy them on the way out. If you're a fan of mangos and chamoy and that spicy-sweet combination or any Mexican desserts, I'd give this place a try! read more

SNACKS! I just realized this place was named "Snacks" today thats funny, I wonder if it was a recent name change or my eye sight is really just calling it quits...haha Anyway to the review... First off I want to say this place deserves 5 stars, but I find it a bit pricey for what it is, it was a bit unorganized AT FIRST but they have redeemed themselves and so I give them a SOLID 4-1/2 STARS. What I Like. The fact that it is a family owned business. I also like that it looks, feels, and operates up to par alongside non-family owned businesses. I like that all the fruits look fresh, they use fresh ingredients when making their "antojitos" and the portions are BIG. On top of that they are fully staffed no one person to ten customer ratio, and they're quick! The sense of urgency is very evident here. What I Kinda-Sorta Don't Like. It was a bit unorganized...like they didn't know who ordered what, and for a second they seemed overwhelmed because they STAY BUSY. Did they figure it out? Yes, but like I said before I wish there was a "Tip To Owner" section (Listen Up Yelp!) so I'm gonna add it myself on every review from now on. Also, I found it a bit pricey but based on the portions I can't hold it totally against them but then again remember, not everyone likes OR NEEDS big portions, me included...haha Lastly, their ice cream didn't look so yummy, so I would suggest keeping it stocked and fresh. That is all. Tip To Owner (Yelp - Give me credit if you copy this idea please, thank you...haha) My Tip To Owner is that they should take peoples names when they take the order, just like Starbucks, simple and easy solution. We had dinner in San Mateo and we were looking for desserts. There are soooo many options on this area, we could not decide for a while. Yelp made it easy- as soon as we saw the reviews and pictures for this place we had to come here, and it was the best decision! We ordered the mangoneadas and some exotic fruit flavored ice cream, and everything was delicious! I think they made everything with fresh fruit! The service was great too! We just returned from a wonderful trip to Yucatan, Mexico, and this place brought back some great memories... Thank you! read more

I am very disappointed in what I saw today... your employee Lucy treated one of your customers horrible. The young woman was not happy with her waffle and politely asked for a new One. She explained to Lucy it was undercooked.. Lucy looked at her and said she was not going to cook her another one after she stuck her fingers in the waffle ... and simply said she would give her her money back. Lucy was rude and sarcastic . I will NOT return to Snacks as long as Lucy is employed there. read more

This is definitely one of those hidden gems! I had never ventured past the Caltrain station in San Mateo and boy, am I sorry I never did! Super friendly staff who is patient while you decide very slowly what you want. The pictures are super helpful too. Nut Allergen Warning: there are almonds in the granola! Also, there are raisins in their treats, NOT chocolate like it looks like in the pictures. Everything is tasty here. You really can't go wrong! There is so much fruit packed in to the fresh cut fruit desserts, you'll want to share or be ready to take some home. read more

We wanted a shaved ice but the shaved ice place was closed on Wednesday so we went hunting for another dessert option. The Mexicans got in on the Asian dessert crave in San Mateo...about time!!!! My friend (dessert addict) and I ordered the fruit salad with sweet cream on top (forgot the name). It was delish! huge serving for a great price. I just got back from 3 weeks in Mexico City visiting the relatives. This was a little taste of Mexico. Next time I will go back to try the paletas. Sooooo happy that there is now a non-asian dessert place in the mix. Definitely worth a visit! Also very close to the train station. read more

After discovering the concept of "fresh fruit as dessert" during a trip to San Diego, I began my quest for a comparable local option. Snacks arose as the victor. I had the Fresas Con Crema and it was magical. I am a huge fan of strawberries (my "fun" fact during a company meeting was literally, "I love strawberries"), and I was completely satisfied by the more than generous amount of fruit in the cup. read more

MMMMM Mangonadas! Places like these are starting to pop up around the Bay Area a little more, buy hey I'm not complaining. I've tried about 5 different mangonadas at 5 different places. Cute lil hole in the wall spot. I was in the area and was looking for some dessert. Seen the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. The mangoneada (sp?) was on point. I can't deny mango and tajin and It hit the spot on a nice sunny day. The price was decent considering the cup was filled with fresh mango slices and mango slushy. read more

Once you have there Mangonadas you'll be hooked!!! The mangos are so so flavorful. And since there cut in smaller pieces you get a lot. Nice downtown neighborhood. Nice atmosphere. And decent prices. We will be coming back! read more

OMG! Are you serious!!?? I've been craving all this goodies for years!!! You can find them all in one place!!! I had to go all the way to San José Flea Market just to get the famous Tostilocos!!! Fresh squeezed juices fresh fruit in excellent serving sizes!! I'm so happy to have found this place. Is right in the heart of San Mateo! Now I have a healthy option (fruits and juices) and if I want to be naughty I can cheat with some tostilocos or mangadas!! The owners were very courteous! This is not a restaurant, but an ice cream bar. We like this ice cream better than any other...more natural flavors and made fresh. The French mint, which is chocolate mint and does not have that phony artificial bright green color you see in most places, is far superior to anything you'll find anywhere else.
