If you haven't had the chance to try turon, you're probably either a first time visitor to the Philippines or a poor soul that has been trapped in your mother's closet since you've been old enough to walk. Turon is one of the many Filipino favorite merienda, or snack. Slices of banana, strips of langka, or jackfruit, all enclosed in a spring roll wrapper, coated sugar and deep-fried until golden brown and delicious! That's exactly what you'll get at Snack Potpouri, this small food stand sitting by the main entrance of CVC Supermarket. Their turon is very crispy but not hard, which usually happens if there's too much sugar in the coating. And because there's just enough sugar in their turon, it's not overly sweet. Their bananas and jackfruit are, for some reason, always perfectly ripe. Snack Potpouri starts frying at 2 in the afternoon. Get it while its just right out of the fryer for the best turon in Metro Manila. Ask the "ate" for their turon because you might miss them when you walk by (they're hiding under banana leaves which keeps them warm). P16.00 for an awesome merienda is always a winner in my book.
