Hit up Dapitan Arcade on a random Saturday morning last month looking for some cute plates to…read morespruce up my dinner parties, and holy crap, I walked out like a kid in a candy store. The place is this chaotic maze of stalls bursting with everything--gorgeous ceramic plates in patterns you won't find in malls, stacks of mason jars for peanuts (grabbed a bunch at like ₱40 each), quirky little gnomes, funky lighting, and even those trendy gold-rimmed teacups that make instant coffee feel fancy. Prices are stupidly low, so my ₱800 budget turned into three full bags of treasures I didn't even know I needed. Haggling was half the fun--smiled, asked nicely, and knocked off a good chunk every time. Yeah, it's hot, a bit crowded, and smells like the wet market next door, but that's part of the charm. Left feeling like I scored big and already planning my next trip for Christmas lights. Absolute treasure hunt heaven. 5 stars, no contest.

Situated along Dapitan St. and Kanlaon St., the arcade is a collection of small stalls and kiosks that sells glassware, murals, ceramic plates, lighting fixtures, decorations, and a multitude of home furnishings at very affordable prices. There are some stuff here that will make you say, "hmm.. I don't really need this thing but it's cute and inexpensive, might as well get it." By the time you leave, you'll have two hands worth of shopping bags. I frequent Dapitan Arcade whenever I need ceramic and wood plates, mason jars and other glasses, and other things that I might need for my cooking and plating. They have a lot of plate designs that are not available elsewhere. When I use them for plating my dishes, it makesmy food feel more sosyal, meaning I can charge more haha. The very trendy mason jars are available here. The normal size ones go for around P50.00. They sell per piece and by bulk. The latter will always get you an ever better price. As early as September, the arcade takes on a more festive look because they start selling Christmas decorations and lights. You want to have a miniature Santa Clause swinging from a light post? Or a robotic St. Nick jiggling his merry booty to some Christmas tunes? Well, they got 'em. And a whole lot of other fun stuff too! When you visit, make sure to bring your "kapal" face so you can ask for discounts. Take away: unusual finds and good deals. Your P1000 pesos will go a long way here!

My sister and her husband are in the final stages of building their house. It took years of saving,…read morelots of bickering and some headaches here and there before they got to this point. The 2 have very different tastes. My sisters wants the house to have a colonial look while her husband as my sister puts it, wants the house to look like an office. And because I was the 3rd adult in our tiny family, I had to intervene from time to time. They both agreed on one thing though: the bathrooms should be beautiful at all costs. So, one Sunday afternoon with my nieces in tow we went to the Dexterton Showroom in Quezon City. Here we found an impressive lineup of everything one needs to build a home. They have top brands and designers, fine designer, chandeliers, lighting fixtures and more. No need to go anywhere else when you're here. Tips: 1. Come here early and bring a camera! Take photos of the things that you like. 2. Try to bring a blueprint of your house just in case you need to give the attendant some specs.

While visiting the Philippines I stopped by Landers with family. It's a bit different coming here…read moresecurity must give you a check in card and must look in your bag prior to entering store. Something I'm not use to but it is what is done routinely in this country. We bought a few things and enjoyed the food court and cafe. I have to say their choices of eats are amazing. My children kept talking about how they want to go back when we go to Manila. We ordered a little of everything on the menu to try it out. We did come here as a large group At the food court we ordered: Pasta. Two choices both are amazing. Yet my nephew was not use to savory Italian style pasta. My children did enjoy every bite. Chicken roll with sauce this is similar to the chicken bake we have in Costco in the USA. I didn't even know it came with sauce until my brother pointed it out. We had already eaten all of it when we saw the sauce. Very tasty. Pizza. Whole wheat crust. I have to say this was very good. My husband ordered a supreme pizza. The cafe is a sweet treat. Dessert and coffee is available. My family ordered coffee and some sweet treats. They are looked so yummy. Stars 1 star for facilities 1 star for service 1 star for clean bathrooms 1 star for food and merchandise 1 star for overall experience.

It is subdivided similarly. On the right side from the entrance, there are electronics, home and office furniture and accessories, toys, clothes, some white goods, some small appliances. On the left side are their specialty foods, grocery items, and a supermarket area with fresh vegetables, fresh meat and seafood, and frozen imported items. Prices are premium for their furniture and appliances but you might spot a good deal; they're a little scant on electronics (no audio, no tablets, phones, which is a bit surprising). On the imported items side, there are some food ingredients I've kept in mind to buy - specialty cooking oils, some baking ingredients, premium jams, some dried nuts and fruits, frozen berries and peaches. Some of these are not found in S&R. Even better, I think their meat selection is superior to... (well). There are good cuts of local meat, and they aren't already chopped up into tiny bits, which doesn't just limit their application, but is also much more sanitary. For the first time in I don't know how long, I saw big cuts of beef that can be roasted instead of stewed or panfried, long racks of pork ribs, lamb shanks. On the imported meat side, all the more: there's bone-in lamb, a deboned lamb cut on the upper thigh part, and long rib-eye and beef loin cuts that lend themselves to commercial as well as home use - or big party cooking! I can't comment on the fruits and vegetables, since i didn't look. It has been open since early-mid June, so they are still are offering 20% discounts on membership: P640/320 on full and extension cards; their membership fees will go up to P800/400 after August 16. One of the nicest perks of their card is the discount on gas at the Caltex station on their huge lot. There are "discounts of the day" on gasoline and diesel. As new members, we got P1.50 off diesel gas per liter and saved P70 on refilling a half-empty tank. Not bad, not bad. The other nice thing about this place is they have pizza and chicken too (again similar prices) - and a coffee shop with cakes and pastries. Landmarks: on EDSA, in the Balintawak area, heading northbound - drive past Munoz, past Home Depot, and stop right before the Wilcon Depot. You'll see signs and their co-located Caltex station. It is way before the NLEX cloverleaf; if you're there, you should continue on toward Monumento and find a U-turn slot.
