Their flavor menu has been updated to indicate which flavors contain gluten and which ones don't. They also now have a protocol for those with strict gluten allergies. This time it was spring, so they didn't have my favorite Jalepeno Popper this time around. But they did have Lavender. For the second and third scoops we got Pistachio, followed by Butter Pecan. As a reminder, they use 14 percent buttermilk, and their ice cream emphasizes FLAVOR over sugar. Despite the high fat content, their ice cream doesn't feel heavy while you're eating it. Take that as a warning, since you might feel it after you consume too much. The Lavender was fantastically floral. The Pistachio was like eating Pistachios. Each flavor is exactly as described. Previously, I had also gotten my coworkers ice cream from here several years prior. Hand-packed into pints, you'll need a serious amount of self-control to avoid finishing them in a single sitting. They've also opened up a location in DeWitt Mall on the Seneca Street side of the commons.

Prices are average for ice cream nowadays and I thought portions were appropriate. They have an inside and outside eating area attached to the creamery and there is more outside down the hill where there is extra parking as well. It's nothing special inside but for an overly hot day nice to have. The outside down the hill provides shade so that is nice as well. Either way a great stop for ice cream if you are in the area. Collegetown bagels is the most popular bagel spot in Ithaca, but I don't find nostalgia in the bagels, primarily due to the tougher texture. However, I do really enjoy their spicy Italian bagel and rosemary salt bagel (although a bit too salty to my liking), and especially their cream cheeses. My favorite has to be their parsley-garlic cream cheese which is loaded with garlic and the freshness of parsley. Other honorable mentions include veggie and bacon-scallion cream cheese. I've had a few of their sandwiches as well. Their Havana Breeze doesn't include much ham or pickles, and the bread was quite greasy on inside and outside which made the sandwich overall very heavy. Their Tour de France has roasted turkey, Brie, apples, honeycup mustard, bacon on multigrain bread (I substituted for focaccia. The bread was soft, but I would've liked it more if it had more seasoning (like some Italian/herb seasoning). The sandwich is cold, but I think having it warmed up/toasted would meld the flavors together better. There was a generous amount of bacon and Brie, but the overall sandwich just didn't seem homogenous. Perhaps a sauce or jam (like a bacon-apple jam) would've helped to bind the flavors more. Lastly, their earl grey hot cocoa consisted of an earl grey tea bag in watered down hot coca which was a bit disappointing. We did not get the usual, "Welcome to Cold Stone," greeting we normally get from straddling at other Cold Stone stores. We were next in line. After the customer left, they stayed at the cash register and talked for a bit. Which seemed a bit odd to me since we were waiting. Usually, in other establishments, the staff is very attentive and is eager to handle the next customer. Or if we came in as a group, they tag team to get us all completed in a timely fashion and work on the next. This is not what happened. When she finally came to us, we started our order. I was paying attention to how she kept herself, what she did before and after the handling of our ice cream. As she was finishing the mixes in the ice cream, I immediately noticed something different. In all the locations I have been to, this one was different. She leveled our ice cream with the cup it was in. I made this face. I thought it was odd and possibly thought she was going to bug the rest of it in but she didn't. She actually took a bit away in order to level the top of it. When she gave us our order, the ice cream was pouring over the side after she leveled it. She didn't bother to wipe it. I absolutely love cold stone. I know this is a new store and customer service is important. I do hope this is something they are not taught.
