Not sure how old this building is but the washroom is an experience. I've never had any kind of decenct service here but maybe they were off days.

Kaffe has live music most evenings. The evening we went they ran a game night at the same time. It was loud. It was fun. We joked around with strangers. Everyone was relaxed. And did I say it was a pub? Oh draft beer was so delicious! Good times for everyone. The food at Kaffe is 3.5 stars at best. My beef stew was loaded with beef brisket chunks and vegetable bits. It was bold, delicious, down to earth, country styled. My boyfriend described his pasta as rich and hearty. Portions of both entrees were not generous but they were satisfying nevertheless. They surely weren't fancy. Most dinner offereings were priced at $18. Compared to most other restaurants charging over $20, Kaffe had the cheapest dinner that filled you up. Many patrons were french speaking. Yet the server was accomodating to us English speakers. I got a distinct impression that some people were regulars. If I was correct, this pub was the locals' social hub. How cool is that?

The waitress turned down the music but the fan noise from the vent hood in the kitchen is extremely loud. They would be wise to spend some money to fix that.

We went for a weekday lunch and they have beef ribs on special every Wednesday. I originally ordered a 6-rib dinner but our server advised that because beef ribs are a lot larger than pork, that a half rack of beef ribs is actually a 3-4 ribs, so I took his advice and got that. Glad I did! They were definitely huge. I asked for no beans, but got the coleslaw, cornbread, and fries, that came with it. While the sides were good, I focused on eating the ribs in-house because they were piping hot and the fries and cornbread could be easily heated later, if needed, without overcooking. The beef ribs take a bit longer, so keep it in mind if you're in a rush. The barbecue sauce had a nice kick to it, not necessarily spicy, but a kick, and also sweet and a bit tangy. The meat wasn't fall-off-the-bone and had some chew, which I didn't mind. Huge portion for sure! There was also a generous portion of fries. I call them Costco fries because most people understand what I'm talking about when I say that's the kind of breading/fry. I loved that cornbread came with the meal and wasn't an additional cost. I just wish it came with a pat of butter or something. If you're looking for a toddler-friendly meal, you can get the Buffalo fingers starter just plain, without it tossed in sauce. There are a ton of different awards, articles, posters, and signs that line the walls, including one that says they're now pouring Broadhead Amber Ale. Service was great, very attentive, fast, and friendly. We came just before the lunch rush, around 11:30-11:45am and there were plenty of tables and it was easy to order and receive our meals in a timely fashion. Family-friendly place as well, though I think they only have a couple of high chairs. Loved that it was laid back and they didn't mind our excitable little dude.

The food took forever, so after 45 minutes, the waitress brought over two bowls of "coleslaw" to placate us. When the food finally arrived, over half the orders were wrong in one way or another. The food that was supposed to be hot was nowhere near so. The Poutine was soggy. The fried chicken was burnt black, but we decided to peel the skin off (it SHOULD have been the best part). The meat was dry and had no flavour whatsoever. This place makes Swiss Chalet seem like a 3 Michelin Star establishment. I would steer clear.

(We came to Quebec partially to drink in the culture and speak French, but okay....) Flat beer... I did not finish it (rare event) White wine was much too sweet. Horrible ribs Horrible ribs at a smoke house? Yea Sent back the first order because although the plate was hot the meat was cold inside. Were they microwaved? They came back luke warm 5 minutes later. (This time more moist, like they were boiled a bit, then re-sauced.) There was way too much sauce... And the sauce was aspiring-to be Costco-type-quality... But did not come close, (and I do not believe Costco has good quality.) I eat out a lot. This was unusually bad. So bad that we did not finish even 1/4 of the ribs. Not sure how a smoke house with horrible BBQ is supposed to make it.

The service is fast and the prices are average . Something I really liked is the fries witch are fried in beef grease . Obviously you are not getting anything fancy but I have seen many restaurants that have a simple menu yet it is beautifully executed. In this case not so much your hamburger bun is your average soggy white bread mcdonalds bun they don't have gourmet sauces like hollandaise for the steak the veggetebals are definetly better then cheap restaurants like Tim Hortons, mcdonalds, pizza pizza , burger king , tutti frutti, Starbucks etc but although the veggetebals are good quality, the mix and match of them Is simply not there. The bottom line is : this restaurant is your average old school fast food the chefs just know simple recipes and they do them the way they have always been . They don't know how to cook and create unique tastes . They use the frier way too often for the onion rings for the jalapeno poppers, for the cheesticks for the deep fried Oreos or deep fried maple cookies witch btw are 5$ for 4 deep fried cookies . Realistically, they don't know how to create a balanced combo in taste ,texture and temperature. If you eat there too often you will end up as fat as the owners belive it ! One thing I will say is better then most places is the quality of the meat .all in all good food but don't go too often. If you are the owner and you are reading this i guarantee that you can improve your food easily even if it is a simple menu
