My husband ordered a medium rare steak and when he cut into it it was well done. They returned it and then came back and said that was their last steak. He ordered a meat platter and we waited another 30+ minutes for it to come out. The order was messed up again. The meat was very dry and we had to keep drinking water to get it down. The portion sizes weee very small. We spent $150 and walked away very disappointed and hungry still. The best was the house salad and it's hard to mess that up. We will not be back. read more

Always good Smokey meat full of flavor. Staff are generally nice. I rarely dine in because I make my own potato salad to go with my beans and burnt ends and brisket. Smokehouse is a favorite of mine, and I don't see it recommended enough! I've been to Zona Rosa and this location, and had amazing service and food each time. I love that it's a sit down, order from your server, real napkins for the silverware, friendly place. Destiny was our server, and she was fantastic. The Jr Smokehouse with brisket is my go to (sesame seed bun with brisket, their amazing beans, plus fries). Three of us got the popular white macaroni and cheese with burnt ends appetizer as our entree, since we were all leaving town the next day and didn't want to have leftovers. The mac n cheese was delicious, but the burnt ends were dry, like they had been cooked and then left on the hot pan on the counter. That ruined the effect. This was the worst bbq I've ever had. We first tried Smokehouse 8 Years ago and hated it. The first time we were aghast at the thinly sliced sausage so we avoided that mistake this time. We thought maybe it's been eight years maybe they've improved? No such luck! This time I avoided the sausage as I said and went for the burnt end platter with beef brisket to go as I wasn't feeling up to go out so my parents brought my order home. When I got the burnt ends they were swimming in clear water of probably a quarter of an inch. You'd think this would make the burnt ends at least juicy but this was only partly the case. The pork burnt ends were mushy, not in a good juicy way but a grainy weird texture way. Contrarily , the beef burnt ends were bone dry. Both were bland. No smoke flavor- I don't know how, the place always smells like smoke when I've driven by. Maybe they just burn the wood to entice customers? Like some exotic Venus flytrap smelling of a tasty treat but ultimately ending in a bad time for its prey. But I digress, my dad had the ribs, again bland and they definitely did not easily fall off the bone like a rib should. I can attest to this as I had the misfortune of having the leftovers, alas they remained left over. It remains to be seen if the dogs can stomach them. Finally, and again the theme of the meal seemed to be bland. She had the smoked chicken and again ,the smoke was missing despite being drowned in BBQ sauce. We had group of 30, easily overwhelming on a Saturday night of a holiday weekend but especially due to the big personalities in our family. Cooper and Lauren handled it in the best way. There were greetings and positive attitudes from the entire staff and the food was delicious and I especially loved the lemon butter salmon. If I could give a zero star I would. I came in to the restaurant earlier and I am a very easy going, open-minded eater. I ask what the waitress recommended as I have never eaten there before and she said burnt ends and I love burnt ends so I ordered that. Around 5 minutes go by and the food has already arrived at the table which was great to see, for a moment. I have just moved here around 3 months ago and have been to 15 barbeque locations and this was by far the worst. Fries were average and so was the mac and cheese. The BBQ is fine it's a good example of KC BBQ but nothing spectacular. The beans on the other hand, are the BEST BBQ BAKED BEANS EVER! It's undisputed. They are so good that people in KC will get big foil catering trays of Smokehouse beans for holidays and events. They put big chunks of brisket in the beans it's amazing. Looking for savory meats with comforting sides in a family friendly setting, look no further than the Smokehouse Barbecue restaurants. I'm pleased there are two locations in my part of the metro. We visited the North Oak Trafficway location, in Gladstone. There is ample parking around the building and as you enter the lot, the smell of cooked meats wafts through the air. A delightful smell advertising their product and preparing patrons for what's ahead. A Saturday night visit had a brief wait. I'm sure they take reservations, and I know they offer seating for large groups. As you wait at the entrance, an ornate wooden bar stands ready to serve. Patrons waiting for tables and those waiting for to go orders are co mingle in the same space. Our party gathered and was quickly seated in the main dining room. Booths line the room and adjustable tables and chairs are plotted in the middle of the room. The space is well lit and cozy. A unique stained glass like screen is positioned above diners. Our server was sweet and attentive. She gathered our drink orders then moved along to other waiting tables. We placed our orders and resumed conversation as we waited. Our server checked in with us about the time we were getting curious about our order, maybe 20 mins after ordering. She was kind enough to let us know we were next up and a large party was causing a slight delay The food arrived and was hot and fresh. I ordered a porker sandwich and substituted the standard fries for a side of mac and cheese. The sandwich was marinated pulled pork topped with the house barbecue sauce on a brioche bun. The server suggested topping the sandwich with onion strings. I would definitely try this on my next visit. The meat was steaming and full of flavor. The mac and cheese was creamy and used thick pasta. A side of it wasn't nearly large enough for my appetite. My husband ordered a Ring of Fire sandwich with sliced ham and sausage with fries. The sandwich was hearty. The meat was topped with a slice of pepper jack cheese, house barbecue sauce and an onion ring. The meats were tender. The sauce is a bit sweet for my husband's taste. He said the meats were so heated that the cheese slice melted over the top. There was enough sauce the onion ring becomes drenched and soggy. Perhaps onion strings would be a better substitute for the onion ring. The fries were a thick cut and cooked perfectly. Could use some seasoning though. Service was steady and we were out in a little more than an hour. A little disappointing at the end of our visit. When the server cleared empty places, she took a plate that was not finished. Our party had 3 checks and two of the cards given for the bill were mixed up and charged the other check's amount. The amounts were close enough to not address it with the server. I have been going to smokehouse for years. Ever since I was a kid and even my mother used to eat there all the time. My favorite is the pulled pork and brisket. It's always a bit noisy if you dine in but somehow comfortable. Like I've gone back to my childhood. The people are almost always amazing. Really nice.
