When in KC it's important to try some barbecue. This place reminds me of the 90s a little dark a little dingy and waitresses that have been here for many many years. This is all a good thing. They have the best beans around their sides are delicious and their meats are smoky and good. Everything is large portions and you will need a to go box. Friendly service great barbecue sauces, and the ribs were delicious.

Looks small and tucked away from the outside, but worth making a stop! We came here with a group of us so we made reservations ahead of time. We were glad we did because it was fairly busy since it was a Saturday night. My friend and I shared the brisket and the burnt ends mac n cheese. The burnt ends Mac n cheese was EVERYTHING. Definitely recommend this. Our server was also super sweet and very on top of it. All of our food came our great and everyone was happy!

Supposed to be 2 Sliced Meats Platter. It was three chunks of each type of meat.

I will say that what I received was good. I was just a little surprised at the portion of a mixed entrée. It was very tiny for $26 I thought.

A group of us attending a conference at the Crown Center were able to score a reservation for a Saturday evening. (Actually, 20 minutes north of our hotel, the restaurant wasn't that full.) The customizable house salad was appreciated. Three of us got the popular white macaroni and cheese with burnt ends appetizer as our entree, since we were all leaving town the next day and didn't want to have leftovers. The mac n cheese was delicious, but the burnt ends were dry, like they had been cooked and then left on the hot pan on the counter. That ruined the effect. The fourth person had a salmon dinner and quite liked it. I had seen the smoke n Mary cocktail mentioned in another review and ordered it out of curiosity, but I didn't really like it, personally. Although our very friendly server came by with a delectable-looking tray of desserts, none of us had any room left. Free flat parking lot and gender-segregated restrooms.

Average bbq. The food was hot, fresh, and fast but there are better bbq joints in town. The beans were great. The fries were standard thick/potatoey steak fries and a better fry could have elevated the experience instead of seeming like a cheap way to fill the plate. The meat was good but there are higher quality and more interesting bbq sandwiches in town.

We've eaten at this location before and it was great. We tried the Zona location and it was awful. So we gave this one another go. We're really glad we did! Unfortunately they were out of beef ribs, which is what I really wanted. So I went with the chef's choice, and it was pretty good! The burnt ends were fatty, with a nice crispy edge. The sauce is always great in my opinion. The server was a most excellent lad that we found quite entertaining. I'd certainly eat there again!

We decided that tonight would be smoked meat night so decided to give this place a try. Several in our group got the chef's special and loved it but the portions were huge. I got the more moderately sized two meat platter with smoked turkey and chicken which was also delicious and way too much food! It came with a choice of two sides plus some bread and pickles. Our server was great and knew the menu very well and was happy to point me at sides that didn't have four legged meat in them. The BBQ sauce was the right combination of spicy with a hint of sweety. All in all a great meal at a reasonable price especially for the portion size. I loved the decor, from the lamps to the holiday decorations.

I walked in here after seeing it from the road after my airport shuttle & figured I would try it out. I'm from South Carolina so I'm used to Southern BBQ cooking & had some doubts about the food but was willing to try. I ordered the 3 Meat Platter - Turkey, Brisket & Pulled Pork served with Fries, Beans & Large Cut Fries. The food was served in less than 15mins & was really good to my surprise. The sauce served with the platter was a sweet & spicy red sauce that had REAL KICK. I enjoyed the food for sure & recommend anyone order it if you're in the KCI area.

I'm pretty sure it was an Italian restaurant before. But I'm glad it is what it is now!

Set in the trappings of what I can only assume was previously an Italian restaurant, this American barbecue joint doesn't look like anyone you've probably ever seen. But once you step through the door, your nose will tell you that you've found exactly what you were looking for. Once we were seated, the hospitality you'd expect of a southern style cookery came forth. We had a wonderful server (Rose) who knew the menu intimately and was able to make some spot on suggestions. So much so, that she suggested something for me, I went opposite of the suggestion (because I was unsure) and very quickly after realized I'd made a big mistake. But I'm sure you're really reading this in search of food reviews so let's get to it, shall we? I have to admit, I came looking for brisket. So when I was advised that I "might also like..." the Burnt Ends all my stomach was saying to my lovely server was, "You don't know me! You don't know my life!". So after my minds filter translated that into something less confrontational like, "I really want some Kansas City brisket and this pulled pork." I thought I'd be diplomatic and also select the side order of Burnt Ends. I mean, let's be honest: it's called Burnt Ends. I've had some amazing burnt end type things but I've also had some absolutely horrible, dry and disappointing burnt pieces and I was so hungry that this meal couldn't miss! But I also wanted to make sure I tried something new. So I ordered a side order portion of it. I do admit, it was a little pricey for an appetizer but again, I wanted to be appreciative. And if God doesn't bless those who humbles themselves... the Burnt Ends stole the show! It was the most mouth watering, juicy, tasty, delectable piece of barbecue I've ever ordered! Even the toast was amazing. Perfectly toasted. Not dry. I never thought I'd rave over just plain old toast, but I just want to make sure that you don't let that get away! Also, this is your classic case of don't judge a Burnt End by its cheap presentation. Remember: with Barbecue, it's about the way it tastes when your mouth takes it in, not your eyes! I'd talk about my main order but really, the Burnt Ends is what you need to know! Sweet Tea and Burnt Ends and you'll leave a happy camper. But much like the restaurant itself... don't let the initial look fool you! If you snooze on this, you will lose. So don't be a loser! Order the Burnt Ends! You're welcome!

Vegan options? We have a family gathering planned in a few days and there's one vegan among us. Besides a baked potato without butter, what are her options?

We do offer a house salad and a spinach salad that could be made without bacon or cheese, we also have grilled vegetables that are delicious, as well as applesauce.

We went for later lunch and this place was crowded with diners, always a good sign. The lunch restaurant week menu really intrigued me because it was one of the 3 course options for $20. First course- luscious butternut squash soup One of my all time favorite soups and this one didn't disappoint, I love the autumnal flavors of this soup. The nuttiness shined through the silky smooth soup filled with the richness of cream. It was seasoned wonderfully balancing the inherent sweetness with the right amount of salt and herbs. I would drink this soup up by the gallon. Second course- Classic Chicken Picatta I loved how light this dish was, instead of being breaded it was tender moist chicken, yes it may look a little anemic but it wasn't lacking flavor. The bright lemon caper sauce brought like to the chicken. The abundance of capers made me so happy, they provided a tangy briny profile. The smooth as butter mashed potatoes just soaked up that succulent sauce and every bite had such a luscious mouth feel. This was an elevated comfort dish. Dessert- crème brûlée Now I'm not a dessert girl so I'm not a crème brûlée connoisseur but, it had a nice crackly sugar shell with a decadent eggy custard. The ripe berries were simple but added freshness to richness of the custard.

Odd. We appreciated the heads up however, I feel like they were really wanting us to turn around and leave as the restaurant seemed overwhelmed. We stayed as it was too late in day to go elsewhere. The kitchen was indeed backed up, no silverware provided had to ask, and our server said to order right away if we wanted to get our food. They were out of some items. Took 45 minutes for food to arrive. However, the staff was apologetic, even though it took awhile to be served the meal itself was acceptable --the pork chop, surf and turf, braised meat, and pizza were all hits. Server had to confirm with kitchen if they were still serving dessert, we were able to order. The desserts consisted of banana coconut pie which basically pudding & bananas in a bowl, tiramisu, and Keylime, all were just okay not worth $. The patio is beautiful and perfect for a nice day. It is very expensive, so we'll save it for special personal occasions not a national holiday/special day, but the food quality makes it worth a return visit.

If I didn't know what was on them, I wouldn't say lemon or garlic. I would say they are seasoned fries. And I liked them. Can't wait to try other sides.
