So... after one Star SMOG place wanting to rip me off, and a second I had used for our newer cars being unavailable, I ended up here... ...and I'm happy I did! Very straight, honest business approach - price list at the entrance, no surprise "your coupon doesn't work because today isn't the third Tuesday in the month, or because I don't like the weather or whatever". That is worth mentioning because clearly, there are shady operators in this commodity line of service. The car I took there was an older 1991 Toyota pickup, which I had modified (with CARB compliant parts). Despite this, there were two issues (generally CARB-compliant or not, one part came with a hose that wasn't accepted, oh well, and one part triggered the check engine light at inopportune moments)... staff (owner?) let me correct these, then tested, and I passed. I've been going to smog pros for many years (about 20 years, back when they were at arco gas station). I had no complaints at all, until the other day. My truck has had an aftermarket airaid filter for about 18 years. I had never had an issue when passing smog check. My truck did not pass smog check just because there wasn't a visible carb number. When I have never been asked that. This comes down to the type of person they are and they know they can easily pass the visual inspection, but they decide to be ignorant about it. I was treated disrespectfully when I tried to explain my previous smog check inspections. I even showed them a previous receipt of them doing the smog check that shows the carb number that they needed to enter in the system. I took it to another smog check shop and easily passed, no hassle at all. They lost a long time customer, and would not recommend. read more

I won't ever be getting a smog check here again. Poor customer service. The owner seemed more interested in getting me to pay for a 2nd test. Would not and will not be recommending this place to any of my friends or people I know. There are tons of other places to get a smog check. read more

I came here for a smog check for my 1997 Jeep Wrangler and I did not have a good experience. I've owned the vehicle for 8 years and have made no modifications to the engine or exhaust system. This shop claimed I had installed an aftermarket catalytic converter (which I have not) - they said that due to their "years of experience" they could tell it was modified (the cat is under a skid plate, not visible and removing the plate is not easy as the transmission will fall down). I was stunned by this and we agreed to part ways (TW didn't charge me which is why they get 1 star and not 0 stars) as no other smog shop has called this out. To my dismay, they sent the report to the state and this marked my car as "Tampered" - now it is my job to prove to the state that this is an OEM catalytic converter, on a Jeep that is over 20 years old! All because I came to this shop... terrible, terrible. I went to an actual reputable shop in Belmont and they were able to instantly tell me, "No, that cat has been replaced with an OEM cat years ago (hint to TW - yes a cat can be replaced and yes, it will be welded on, but this doesn't mean it's 'aftermarket'). The other shop identified the "DS" number for the cat in 5 minutes and THANK GOD they reversed this insane decision by TW and now I can register my Jeep. The reputable shop was confused as to why TW had done this and concluded (as I have) that a terrible mistake was made or this shop is dishonest. Shops need to understand that decisions they hand down like this affect peoples lives as they depend on their cars. If you have an older vehicle, don't bring it here. Oh, and - to add insult to injury - the Jeep passed the emissions part of the test. read more

I have been coming to TW for years, and William was the best mechanic. I was so surprised to see that he retired earlier this year. I called Will for a recommendation for another mechanic, and he said to try the new mechanics at his old shop. He said he has known the new owners for many years and believes they are dependable. I trusted William and decided to give them a shot. I called to make an appointment for maintenance and spoke with Benjamin. I had my 60k service done last time, so I only needed an oil change. I brought my car in and saw the shop looked a bit different. It seems less cluttered and cleaner. Benjamin comes out to greet me, and he seems friendly enough. He tells me my car uses synthetic oil and will cost $70 plus tax. It was the same amount as what William was charging me prior. I told him I couldn't pick up the car until after work around 4:30 pm, and he was okay with it. I got a call from Benjamin a couple of hours later to let me know my car was done and ready for pickup. He knew I would pick up the car later, but he was kind enough to give me a courtesy call if I decided to come earlier. I picked up the car after work, and the total was $75, just as he quoted me. He mentioned that my car was well maintained and no other services were needed. He only told me my brakes might need servicing next time and that he would check on them the next time I came in. I will come back again as they also do Smog Checks. Great timing because my other car is almost due for one. I am so happy that the shop is still doing auto repair. Enjoy your retirement, William. Had been a TW customer for many years. Realized recently they have new mechanics now and decided to give it a try. Background: I brought my car for oil change in a dealer near my home and they came back with a long list recommended services. We decided to bring the car to TW for checking and servicing if needed. Arthur helped us to check and test drove the car, and turned out nothing was needed at that time! He showed us the findings and things checked under the hood. We really appreciated his honestly and sincerity. Others could have just worked on list of items and charged us but grateful he spent time to check and gave us honest opinions. Will definitely come back in future and continue stick with TW auto. read more

Reliable and reasonably priced services. I came here for new brakes. Before coming here, I went to a different shop that quoted me a much higher rate for the new brakes. Benjamin checked carefully before telling me that only the front two brake pads needed to be replaced. He did not try to sell me additional services I did not need. I find him to be honest and was impressed by his knowledge and his simple transparent approach that I decided to get my oil change, smog certification, and new battery all done at his shop. His hourly rate was reasonably priced and the battery was high quality too. The shop was also clean and organized. I highly recommend Benjamin and his team. read more
