Amazing! Lets start with what was wrong with my car- the lights under my headlights have both fallen out and on one side it completely ripped the cords out causing the headlight on that side to no longer work (it fell out while I was driving on the freeway so there was really nothing I could do to save it) :( My poor car! My mom and step-dad have been going to Big E's for years and are very set on my car being in perfect condition so as soon as they found out about the lights they made this appointment for me to go get it fixed. Tuesdays I have half the day off of work so they made the appointment for a Tuesday morning at 8am. It's my only day to sleep in & so when my alarm went off that morning I fought with myself for half an hour about getting out of bed & going. I called to let them know I was going to be half an hour late and it was no problem! They'd see me when I got there. Half an hour late I arrive and am instantly helped, he looks at my car, tells me he'll need to order the parts but they should come around 10:30 and they were willing to have my car ready by 1:00 so I could get to work on time! I know plenty of other places would say too bad we need more time. However, I felt bad since I was late I didn't want to force them to rush because I couldn't make it on time. And so I told him I would bring my car back another day if that was better- he scheduled the appt for Friday at 9 ("so I'd have time to sleep in"). Almost forgot, while I was waiting for the gentlemen helping me to look up the parts in his office another took the time to have a conversation with me while he was working. Anyways, the price was fair and they've done an amazing job with my parents car in the past! I'll have to edit this on Friday when I bring my car. They have such good customer service I just couldn't pass up yelping about it, even if it is pre-mature. read more

My 2002 Volvo S80 was shaking and choking as I drive on the freeway, it was very scary, I was afraid it will die on me in the middle of the freeway. I brought it to Big E Automotive to check it out, and told them I do not intend to spend a lot of money on this old car, and was prepared to abandon the car. They are really good as always, they told me they can fix it with very little money so I can still drive it until it really die. This way I will have time to shop for a good deal on a new car, and not rush into just buying any car. They did an amazing job with the little money I spend, and now my car is driving great. I don't think I need to spend money to buy a new car now. Again, they are the most honest and great mechanics I have ever come across in all the years I am driving ( almost 30 years ). I was very lucky to have found Big E Automotive, they took me in right away and thoroughly check out my car. Spoke to the manager Walter and he was friendly and very accommodating. They called me back to inform me my alternator and water pump needed to be replaced. Its a great place with quality service and a great place for women who have a hard time finding a auto service place that is honest. They heard about how I just had the alternator fixed 6 months ago by another auto body repair shop. I was disappointed In finding out the other place was dishonest and would not work with me in refunding part of my money. He showed me the difference between the generic part and they part they replaced that was the correct part for my Toyota. He also gave me a discount off labor and Hazardous Materials. Which I truly appreciate. His price was also cheaper then what the other auto body place charged me. Walter and his crew are friendly and come highly recommended. read more

After my recent experience here I would never take my car anywhere else for a smog test. My son's older car needed a smog star station and I was referred to Big E. I just showed up and they were very accommodating. There were some issues with the test--things particular to the make, model and year of the car--and Walter and Kieran guided me through the process, were very knowledgeable about what I needed to do, and made me feel like my little smog test was important to them. Finally, with their help and guidance, the car passed and they seemed as happy as I was. This is not an impersonal place....just thinking about going for a smog test gives me hives but I actually look forward to going to Big E again. They charged me one time and they could have charged me for their time and it would have been worth it! But they did not gouge me in any way and it was a relief to find a place that was willing to go the extra mile to help me. I recommend Big E highly. read more

Big E is an excellent car repair service! They completed the 60K service for my truck within only a few hours and there were no surprises in the final bill, unlike my experiences with other car repair places. I felt like they were more concerned with doing a great job than they were with making a buck. I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to car maintenance, but the mechanics treated me with respect and answered all my questions, however dumb they may have been, with a humble attitude. On a rainy/stormy day, I drove over a road cone which stock underneath of the car. After I finally pulled it out from there the car started making strange noises when the wheels were turning, especially from the starting position. I took the car to Big E. Kieran inspected it, and immediately said: "The car is low on the steering fluid. At the start, air enters the system and that what makes the noise". He added steering fluid (at no charge) and "Voila" - no noise anymore. Great expertise and Big "Thank you" to Big E. And thanks to Walter for the ease of appointment scheduling. Big E Automotive have serviced my wife's Corollas and my Chryslers for about17 years now. I wouldn't even think of going elsewhere. They do great work, their charges are very reasonable and I've found them to be completely honest. They are totally reliable and rarely keep the cars more than a few hours. It was suggested by the AAA Emerg. Road Serviceman that I run my Chrysler over to Big E so that they could charge the AAA battery and diagnose it. I turned it over to Kieran there. He was courteous, friendly, knowledgable. I came back in about three hours, and Kieran explained that the battery wasn't charging properly and that it would likely fail again, in which case AAA would have to be called to replace the battery, although it was fairly new. I found Big E and Kieran to be efficient and honest, and I will bring my Chrysler back there for servicing in the new future. read more

I purchased a pre-owned HONDA CIVIC LX for my son for his college. DMV required the vehicle to be inspected and certified. My mechanic recommended for me to go to BIG E Automotive. I made an appointment and right on time the vehicle was inspected and certified. What impressed me most was degree of integrity and competency of the owners/mechanics. A burnt rubber smell was coming from our car, and as we were 100 miles from home, figured we'd better have someone check it out. A passerby suggested Big E, and even though it was the day after Thanksgiving, Kieran happened to be in the shop. They were officially closed for the holiday, but he kindly took a look anyway, gave us very useful advice, and cleaned off some of the axle grease that had splattered onto the catalytic converter. Big E just found and fixed a hard to find smog control problem on my BMW 325ci 10 year old convertable so it passed the smog check and, since it required a second check, they discounted the entire cost of the second check. They also hav taken excellent care of my 9 year old Subaru outback and 27 year old Nisson 4 wheel drive pickup truck for several years and the work has always been high quality, quick and reasonably priced. They never do more than the vehicle needs. read more

Our repair shop in San Mateo recently closed with the retirement of its owner. It can be difficult to search for a new repair shop after 20 years with the prior shop. However, the owner referred us to Big E. We have been there once to check on a small coolant leak. The service was timely, the problem was quickly solved, and the price was reasonable. I made an appointment and took my wife's car in for a smog test last week... they recommend a 60,000 mile service as well (the car has 63,000 mile or so...) Got it back the same day even with the extra work... they are fast, do the right stuff... I completely trust them... (and I do not trust easily) Thanks again... read more
