I was so anxious about my car needing a smog check and I can't even explain why; I suppose because I am a girl and feel weird when it comes to dealing with car things. Anyways, I found this place on yelp and it was so close to home that I knew it was the place I would go to plus it's STAR Certified which is what the DMV requires when a smog check is required for your registration. The place itself is small and super clean but kind of out there with the advertising you can't miss it. The gentleman working was super helpful with my questions and made the process a breeze and we were done in about 10-15 minutes. After the smog check, he gave me my paperwork back and sent it directly to the DMV and it was done. I found the price to be fair and you have the option to pay cash or card. read more

I went to a different place earlier and wanted to charge me $130 for a smog check. So I took it Alfred since he's done smog check from my co workers. He's a great guy and only charged me $80. I had to pay my registration before I left on vacation last month and decided I'd do my Smog Check at a STAR station when I got back. Well, after delaying, I am now down to the wire to get it done. The first place sounded good, had a coupon for a good deal, no appointment necessary, so I headed over around 11. Closed. I called and the surly man said he was in traffic and to go back and wait. Yeah, no. Enter Smog Stops Here. No hassles, good price, and great service. I didn't get the gentleman's name, but he explained everything he was doing and I didn't need to get out of the car. Usually, I have to stand or sit outside a hot garage, so this alone made it worth it. I don't even know if it took ten minutes, it was such an easy process. Very pleasant and quick smog check. Tried for the first time recently and even with two people ahead of me I was done within 20min. Didn't even have to get out of the car, simply chatted with Alfred while he did his thing (he's hilarious btw). $60 and went straight to AAA down the street to renew my registration. There's really not much to say about this place...if you need a smog check, they're fast, easy, and convenient. I came here on a Saturday afternoon while doing some errands and there was no line. After reading a ton of Yelp reviews, I chose this place mostly cause they said you didn't even have to get out of your car and I didn't. You pull into this tiny garage and this crusty, acerbic older gentleman hooks your car up to all these wires and tubes. That's not a knock on the person working here that day. He seems like one of those old school guys that would have a cigar in his mouth if it was allowed here. He was kind, but definitely kind of no nonsense. Price was on par with other top smog check places nearby and with my registration due that Tuesday, the certification was sent to the DMV immediately. Bonus points too for the building being one of those castle designs you see so much around Burbank. read more

I was asked if it failed before and was told that he couldn't help me because it lowers his shop score and then I just basically said that this interaction just lowers the recommendation that my friend had. Guy got angry, kept approaching my vehicle getting aggressive as I've already walked away trying to get to my car to leave. I just don't need to deal with an immature older guy with ego problems and wants to argue when I'm just there to get my car smogged. Wanted me to leave and yet was standing in front of my car to where I couldn't even leave in the first place. Was yelling at me actually. I get this is the only thing you're good at and it's definitely not people but this wasn't my problem and it wasn't my fault. I would never come back to the shop ever again with a vehicle that never failed smog. Better places to get your car smogged with better prices for sure. Go elsewhere! This may be the second time I have negatively reviewed a business and this one qualifies. The skinny: the guy did my smog check and at the very end he said he could not complete it because I had anti-theft shield over my catalytic convertor and he couldn't see with his mirror. The catalytic convertor is the original. At least two other smog check places have been able to see the convertor before and it has never been a problem. He said I needed to get the shield removed and he could finish the job - but first I have to pay about $50 for inspection for this incomplete service. He also put "tampered" on my status, which meant that I could not go to another place to get this easily resolved. The convertor has never been tampered, so I don't know why this was done. I took it over to Morse Mufflers and the guy there was surprised and he said he could easily see the convertor and the stamp on it and noted that it wasn't tampered. I had to go back again and pay $8 to finish the process. The guy should have been open up front -- as many cars have these anti-theft shields -- that he couldn't easily do this job, and tell the customer! Don't wait until you get to the end of the process and charge them for an incomplete job, and force them find someone who can take the shield off. Next time I will find another place. read more

I rarely meet people like Fred. Fred is a breath of fresh air. He is always enthusiastic and he loves his job. First off, I was in urgent need to get a smog for registration purposes & I had no appointment & did little to no research of any smog places around me. I found this place when I was getting lunch near by. When I pulled into the smog bay, the gentleman was very kind and set good expectations for the wait. I had never done a smog check before so he walked me through the process and got it done just under 20 minutes from arriving. Overall, it was a great experience and very quick. This place is the BEST! I had my vehicle repaired prior to getting smoged and the car's computer was ready to pass smog. I had to drive quite a bit to reset the system. The gentleman at this place was great at explaining the details and didn't charge anything extra during this process. I passed smog on the 4th visit. During my visits I saw other drivers with them scenario giving this man grief. There is nothing any smog test can do until the vehicle's computer can satisfy this scenario. BTW, it's not the first time this has happened to me however, in the past, other test stations wanted to charge me extra. Not this guy. He's honest and very fair. Fred is the best! I came here after my partner did some research and had a good experience getting his smog check done in 10 minutes at a reasonable price. I wasn't sure what to expect, but when I arrived I was the only customer and Fred welcomed me in immediately. All I had to do was pull my car into this tiny little garage and we were in business! The actual job only took less than 10 minutes, but we spent a good chunk of time chatting all about Fred's awesome travels and it was really cool getting to hear his story; you can tell he's genuinely passionate about connecting with other people and also just a really lovely person. He even went through the trouble of walking me through a handy guide on how to approach smog checks in the future in any considerations if I got work done on the car before trying to get a smog check done. Some people leave bad reviews because he refuses to brake the LAW. If you have an aftermarket catalytic converter shield installed on your vehicle remove it before you show up to any smog shop.
