So my car broke down on me on the way to work. Thankfully I wasn't to far away. After arriving at work I contacted AAA I had a driver from Smitty's call me I explained the situation and he told me either would have to ride with him in order to have my car towed which made me feel uncomfortable also I was at work. So it was rescheduled to be towed when I got off work. Then the superstar Kevin showed up. I am so thrilled to write this amazing review for Smitty's! My one week old Mercedes hit a pot hole on Vandenberg Space Force Base and popped a tire. I was out in the middle of no where. Smitty's was approved to get on base which was awesome because I couldn't meet them at the gate. Not only did they tow my car but they also help find me a tire repair shop. Carlo was fantastic! Very rude employees! Went to get belongings out of a car that was basically totaled. It's my car , why are we being treated like criminals ! Then 3 guys practically standing on top of me and my daughter in law while we try to salvage some of our property . They are laughing and carrying on while they watch 2 very upset people go through a car that looks like the driver was severely injured!! Within 5 min Luis came out and put the spare tire on. He was the most pleasant and respectful person. He had my spare tire on in under 5 min. He made sure I was okay before he left. Smitty's Towing will quote you one price and then try and double it when they show up for the tow. They left me in a complete bind after I waited 2 hours for them. Maybe they shouldn't quote prices if they are not going to stick to it. They should also train their phone staff a little better to understand what is really going on. As a business owner myself, I have to say that there are some companies that care, and there are others that don't. Smitty's Towing is obviously the latter. Another shady tow company paired up with city to scam hard working citizens. They towed my work trailer . Which if I was in the wrong ok . Here's the kicker . I lost title so by time I got paperwork done I owed 2400$ on impound fees on a 500$ trailer . So trailer went to auction where the value it got at auction should be removed from total impound fee . Well they didn't auction but instead gave to a local "salvage" yard . So I had to pay $2400 in fees . HERE IS THE REAL KICKER !!!!!!! Smitty's ripped my front bumper off while off loading my car at the shop I asked for it to be towed to and they never paid for the repair. They ripped it off, I paid to fix it. Couldn't be more furious at how business was conducted. I have used them many times in the past with nothing but great experiences, their drivers are great ppl but management failed when they decided not to own up to a damage their company caused. Idk how ppl can get away with crap like that even when I have the report the driver wrote up.. I called for months trying to get ahold of the owner and every single time the receptionist said he was out of office, I left my phone number at least 20 times with promises for a call back with nothing. I would even tell them I've called many times and you always ask for my number then I get nothing back, and they say oh okay I will make sure he gets it this time. I locked my keys in my car, I have roadside assistance with Geico. Contacted Geico and they scheduled it, with Smittys. I was told 45-60 mins, after about 75 mins I called Smitty's, they told me the truck was enroute to me and would be there within 15 mins after waiting 2 hours!!! I once again contacted Smittys and they told me it would be another 60-90 mins!! Are you kidding me now it is almost three hours later and no truck. I called Oliveras and they arrived in under 30 mins. What a joke Smittys is .NEVER use them!! They were rude, unprofessional and flat-out lied to me about the truck was on its way. I was about 15-20 mins away from their location and they just had to unlock my door WTH?? I had a very sentimental jeep cherokee sport that this company was fully aware of and insured that my truck was safe and sound. Lets start with their first huge bs mistake; my truck for some reason, even with my keys in hand had required a flat bed tow (meaning thats all theyre going to send if thsts the cheapest and easiest for their unknowledgeable tow truck drivers. Mind you, one time i actually had tonremind the guy to Put my gear shadt back together when i didnt have thebkeys at that particular tow. When insay these dudes know me im not kidding. My jeepnhad often had issues post work at buellton garage ,(that Experience almost pushed me over the edge but that's neither here nor there or the issue was speaking of so let me get back to what I was saying) basically that night they had come and asked me if I had the keys I told him yes and they still proceeded to put my jeep on the flatbed and then we got to my house they said they could not fit in the alleyway which I will include pictures and therefore they could not fit in my driveway which is accessible through the alleyway and only through the alleyway. Usually they told me to the alleyway they position there till truck right and he drop me right down in my garage I close the door and say sayonara but not this time. They promised me they would not tell my car they promised me up and down they swore on there kids they did everything you possibly imagine to make me believe that my car was safe and sound route front of my house on the street. Well that wasn't the case because then they came back two months later and took it themselves!! They're not the company that gives a crap theyre the ones rhat that your life and crap on it. I called ahead of time to schedule my car to be towed to Santa Maria for an appointment I had for it to be diagnosed. It was picked up at 10am and hadn't heard a word from Nissan on any updates. Not until I called Nissan and was told my car wasn't there. They had to go searching for it and told me that my car was left on the side of their building with the keys inside and unlocked! My car could have been stolen without anyones knowledge! My car sat there for hours because Smitty's driver didn't leave any communication with Nissan, he didn't drop off my keys, nothing. I am beyond upset because now I have to reschedule my appointment with Nissan for days later when if it was done correctly the first time it would have been done today. I paid out of pocket for this. I understand you have a business to run but it is not appropriate to approach a how much disabled woman and place your hands on her cell phone while she is recording her video of the vehicle leaving a lot. Edge even worse whenever you get the honor on phone and try to negotiate with him because of the incident and refuses to work out with the person. Smitty's towing really saved me. I'm bicycle touring from San Francisco to Los Angeles and while in Lompoc my combination lock jammed and I could not unlock it. Of course it was early Sunday morning. I was able to convince Smitty's to help me and they were able to come out and cut the lock. This was after calling the police ( go to Walmart) the fire department ( no answer) and AAA. Why don't you make your drivers call the customers #1 so they can have a ETA of the drivers arrival? Was stranded while camping out of cell phone range and our ride was late because of it. Once picked up, however, we (wife and dog) were treated with empathy and kindness. Our driver, Neil, was capable and confident as well. We had laughter and great conversation en route to a transmission shop. Neil even insisted on handling our luggage once we were ready to roll and once we arrived. Total gentleman. Neil knew the location and area of our destination and even had thoughtful recommendations about it. Even though the initial situation Was not ideal, this company really follow through with what they said and was willing to work with someone who was trying their best to do their part. My boyfriends car had gotten towed, they said that in order to avoid paying for an additional day, we would have to be there by a certain time after jumping through hoops in other ways with the DMV (oh god ) and police department. My boyfriend was very communicative And in return the headquarters dispatch woman, I can't remember her name right now but she was very sweet and very helpful, really made sure that my boyfriend was taken care of. In the end my boyfriend ended up being a couple hours later than they initially wanted him to be, but that's only because he was following through with every step that he had to take to get his car back. So Smitty's was very helpful and understanding of hard times and all the steps that someone has to go through especially with limited time, and they really just made the whole situation a lot better when in reality they didn't really have to, it is much appreciated and it would be great if other businesses could be as uunderstanding and take things into consideration as much as they did.
