The venue is pretty spectacular with great views of the surrounding hills and valleys along with the vineyards as the hang of the side of the mountain. There were two aspects that pushed my opinion down a bit, neither are really the fault of the venue or business so I've stayed with the 5-stars. The wedding was held in an outdoor pavilion with great views, but during the first week of August quite hot. There are ceiling fans but they didn't help too much - I was sweltering in my jacket and tie by the time the ceremony ended (just be aware if you book something here during the hot season). The second, there are a lot of stairs as you are on the side of a mountain. If you have a hard time traversing a lot of stairs, there are other means of getting around so once again be aware. The main "hall" has windows with fantastic views. I thought the food was exceptional and wish I had taken more photos, but there were a lot of poor lighting (I was seated next to the dance area). My apologies for the missing check in and the lack of photos but I didn't want to be obnoxious at a wedding. Overall I love the rustic charm of this place and plan to return and more fully explore the wine offerings. Sadly, I arrived 30 minutes before closing so I had enough time for a glass of wine but not a time for tasting. The building and property is expensive with beautiful views of grapevine's leading up to the main building. There are several outdoor areas from which to choose to sit. The top one is covered with ceiling fans. With the threat of storms this afternoon, I chose to sit there. The view here is absolutely stunning- I can see several other mountains and the storms in the distance. The friendly host us at the register reviewed some wines with me so I chose the Plenitude. It's a blend of steel aged Chardonnay with voignier. It's crisp and perfect for a hot summer day. If you are in the area for an event or a weekend or an overnight, I highly recommend visiting both Mountain Vineyards and Winery.

And while I am going to give an honest review, my sincere hope is that our experience was just a fluke. Upon arrival, we found a line of people waiting at the hostess stand and no one in sight to greet or welcome us. We waited 5-10 minutes before someone finally came over to acknowledge us, despite multiple employees, including the one who eventually greeted us, walking back and forth serving other tables during that time. It wasn't that they didn't see us; they simply didn't take the time to acknowledge anyone waiting. When we were finally seated, the food came out quickly. However, I'd have happily waited longer if it would have improved the food. While nothing was inherently bad, it lacked memorable flavors and finesse. The chips and queso were disappointing. The chips were greasy and more like fried pita chips and the queso was runny and lacking in flavor. The bacon smash burgers never really got smashed and had a basic, "made at home" taste that was underwhelming. One of them we took apart to find one half of a piece of bacon was all that was on it. The fries were seasoned which at first we hoped would be an exciting twist, except for the overwhelming flavor of paprika that made them too one dimensional. Despite this, we were still enjoying our night and were attempting to not be too critical of the food. Until the server asked if we wanted a box while my wife and son were still eating. (I'm a fast eater, so I had finished first.) She then came back with a box and asked if we wanted drinks to go, to which I let her know that we were still eating. They all missed the point. The issue was not a free meal, but the lack of genuine care that makes food and restaurants memorable. Accidents happen, and I understand that, but how you handle them says a lot about the people and the restaurant. Unfortunately, that general lack of care seemed to carry through the entire experience, from the greeting to the food and ultimately the service. Good food takes love, passion, and an attention to detail, which unfortunately didn't seem to be present during our visit. I wish them the best and hope they continue to grow as a restaurant and improve. I am sharing this review not to criticize, but to provide honest, constructive feedback that will hopefully help the restaurant improve while also giving future guests a better understanding of what they could possibly expect when they visit. Going out to eat isn't cheap, and especially in a tourist destination like Helen, where there are so many restaurants competing for your business, knowing which ones are worth visiting and which ones might not be is important. I share this review with that in mind, so others can better weigh their options before deciding where to spend their time and money.
