-100 Stars. I was traveling through ABQ and did not want fast food, so I stopped here to get some premade chicken salad. Started eating on it around Moriarty and it was spoiled really bad. I called Smith's customer service and the first guy hung up on me after 33 minutes on the phone with him trying to figure out what to do. The second guy told me that the only way to get a refund was to take it back to the store, 6 hours one way, or have a rewards card that they could add a credit to - neither are acceptable since I live so far, when would I ever use the rewards card credit - NEVER!!!! I'm having to do a charge back against my credit card. Only shop at Smith's if you are into rotten food, horrible customer service, and no way to get your money back. RIPOFF!! read more

This is a clean store. Lots of delicious products including alcohol, beer and wine. Caution, this is not the place to decide if you want to try a new beer or alcohol purchase. If you are feeling adventurous, try another store. I bought a six pack of a new IPA and after one beer didn't like it. I went to return the other 5 beers. I'm stopped at the door and quoted the New Mexico State law of not being able to return alcohol. So, I found a place where I can return products and alcohol / beer that I sampled and didn't like. The bakery is awesome! I had lost track of the days and realized I needed cupcakes to bring to my daughter's class for her birthday. I realized morning of that I needed to pick them up by the end of the day to get them in time. I called the bakery and they were so accommodating. My 4 y/o had some specific requests and they were able to make it happen within a matter of hours. We originally talked about unicorn rings to top the cupcakes (per my daughter's request). But I received a follow up call not long after we had hung up and it was the bakery saying they were unfortunately out of unicorn and asked if rainbows would be okay. I thought it was so nice they called me back right away with something that seems so silly but could make a big difference to a little girl. The rainbows were a hit and they came out so cute! COORS and central location daytime staff is horrible. As a woman that requires the electric chairs, there are 2 in the store and those 2 have huge poles that make it impossible to take out to my car in handicap parking. no one ever offers to put them into a cart so I can roll it out myself. I've asked so many times since there's only 2 why can't one of the many available workers walk me out with the electric chair and bring it in there selves. as I once again shared that I live 3 minutes from this location and that when I have a lot of shopping to do I either drive to the golf course smiths which is like another world. they're so nice so helpful and I can take the carts out and they even offer to come out and load my groceries.COORS smiths doesn't care about it's handicapped customerservice. I've spoke about this store many times and nothing changes, nothing. well as long as I have a voice I will continue to advocate for handicap people that can't. These have to be the worst damn headphones I've EVER used. Omg. Does no on in the Kroger chain do any quality control for electronics? I thought this was a brand that prided itself on quality and affordability. Honest I will own my blame thinking a $17 pair of headphones could live up to a higher standard. But my goodness, for creating purposes, I figured "I could keep them for that". Since you can't currently return anything. They don't sync with my video creation apps. I do heavy video editing and these aren't even subpar. When creating then I get latency. Omg. When can I return these? And for other customers DO NOT BUY THESE HEADPHONES. The Smith's grocery store at Academy is the nicest Smith's store I have gone. The cashiers are nice; however, Cashier Kami is always very friendly and helpful. I look for her when I need to check out. Also, the ladies at the pharmacy are very attentive and helpful. But today, I had Miss Willow give me my vaccinations and she went beyond her calling and found out that my son still had his insurance active even though Smith's did not accept this insurance co. She suggested where he could go, and gave us all the info we needed. We are very grateful for her extra assistance and courtesy which saved us money we used to by our groceries. Smith's is the local grocer around here. Their produce selection seemed to be rather limited for such a big grocery chain. They had only a few examples of each kind of onion or tomato or potato. They could certainly use more options there. Most of the check out options are the self-check out. Personally, I'd rather work with a cashier when checking out produce, since I don't know the codes or whatever. They do a pretty good job at providing locally made hot sauces and salsas, but could use more dessert options. I hate how these guys mark up all the prices unless you can come up with a shoppers' card. Fortunately, they will accept a phone number instead. Parking is easy, with a big dedicated lot with giant signs reminding you not to trespass here, and a burly uniformed security guard out front. It's a better option than Wal-Mart next door. read more

Before I get into my complaint, I want to say that I love Smith's. Secondly, there is a Vietnamese checker who I love. She's so very nice and so friendly. NOW MY RANT: I was in Smith's this morning, shortly after 7 a.m., and I did self-checkout. Since I was buying wine, I needed help from the woman who was working self-checkout. She was SO RUDE. She obviously not feeling at all well. It was very early on a Saturday morning. It wasn't at all busy. She was DEEP into her smart phone. I guess she was upset about being interrupted. I cut her some slack until she kept it up and kept it up. And then I lowered myself to her level, and I got sarcastic. Most of the Smith's employees I interact with, whenever I'm in the store, are nice, including the ones who monitor self-checkout. BUT NOT THIS ONE. The next time I buy wine, I won't be doing self-checkout if she is there. If she doesn't like her job and her customers, she needs to find another one where she can spend the whole day on her smart phone, without interruptions. smh read more

This used to be my favorite store. Now, my partner has twice had to walk out and leave his cart full of groceries because they don't have enough cashiers and/or management doesn't wish to pitch in when lines are long. 1 or 2 registers open during busy times is unacceptable. If you can't find cashiers, try paying a living wage. read more

I live within walking distance to this grocery store. The food selection is mediocre but the staff there seems relatively nice. The prices, in my opinion are a little higher than they should be. I shop there for convenience and because I hate Walmart (who is their next-door neighbor and shares the plaza). Of course, I could partake in Wally-World and save some money but then I would feel guilty for supporting a large big-box chain that treats their employees poorly. Anyway, I'm here to talk about Smith's, not Walmart. So, I digress. Sometimes when I'm in the store, especially in the morning, I feel like I'm the youngest customer in the store, which is saying a lot about their clientiele as I'm not *that* young (in mid 30's). I think that the produce is ok here, but prefer going to Albertson's on Wyoming and San Pedro or even better Whole Foods (if I can afford it), which is right down the street. Smith's is a division of Kroger and their Kroger-brand products are often comparable to the main brands. I don't have anything against Smith's grocery store, I just don't particularly care for this one. However, it is better than the alternative (Walmart). read more

I often shop at smiths they have always been conviently located to me. Today while i was shopping at this site i was taking pics as usual. I had an employee come up to me, stand RIGHT in my face and said "What are u going to do with the pics your taking?" I said I'm yelping. His reply "well ur not supposed to take pics that's what corporate says" i tried to explain that if your business wasn't associted with Yelp it wouldn't be listed on Yelp but he didn't even listen to me he just scoffed and rudly walked away. I go to this store often but if I'm going to be treated rudly there are many other plain jane grocery stores i can go to to get that same service. Shame on that employee. Not only because it is close to my home, this is my go to shopping center. I can find everything I need for a price I can afford. I find the staff very helpful and cheerful;. They always say hello and say if I need anything. When I have a question everyone always stops to help me and doesn't make me feel like an inconvenience. There is usually a very short wait at the registers if any wait at all. I have always found I can talk to and joke around with the cashiers and even if they don't find me funny they humor me rather than snub me which is refreshing compared to pretty much everywhere else. I use the money service monthly to get money orders for my rent because I dislike checks. The folks there are always pretty prompt in helping me out and again don't treat this part of the job as a hassle like other big stores do. The establishment is always clean even when they are unpacking the orders. I am a huge fan of the "natural" section and the large selection of organic produce and other products. It is nice to have the option even if I cannot always afford it. Overall even with other stores available to me, I will most likely keep going to this store. Hmmm. How to review a grocery store in a fun way? Let's see... It was a dark and stormy night... Ok, maybe not. This store has everything you might need in one stop. Friendly people set this location apart and you can't beat the discount on gas for your regular shopping with the Smith's rewards card. There is a pharmacists, bill paying, a bakery, meat cutting, a service deli, floral section, a liquor department and even a Chinese take-out place right up front. I see people browsing the books, using the Coin Star, getting make-up or just grabbing an energy drink as they use the Red Box. Check out is quick with a checker or self-serve check out. Parking is a breeze and it's right off Academy & Wyoming. There are a number of business you may need in the same shopping center. So if you just need a lotto ticket or you want to peruse the cheese island, I recommend stopping here! And they all lived happily ever after! read more

I don't typically shop here. However, I ordered their 3' sandwich several times for meetings. The deli folks were wonderful. They went above and beyond. In fact, Daylon walked me to my car so I didn't have to carry anything. You will not walk far before someone greets you in the store. Another plus was the cost of the sandwich. This place sucks! They need to fire the manager before he or she kills someone with spoiled or tainted food. I'm sick and tired of finding food items that are beyond their expiration date or have had the safety seal under the cap broken. Several weeks ago we bought several cartons of chicken broth. When we got them home we found every seal was broken. I took them back to the store and found every carton on the shelf had the same problem. Earlier this week my wife bought a package of egg substitute and, yep, the seal under the cap was broken. Today, I bought a veggie tray for a birthday celebration. When we opened it we found the carrots were slimy. After looking around the package we found the expiration date and yep, it was well expired. Buyer beware! Will be frequenting this location due to the construction on paseo. In my opinion the smiths on paseo and Wyoming is superior to this location. I really dislike the parking lot for starters. It just doesn't seem as clean. Maybe because it's not as new?! Took me twice as long to shop because I didn't know where anything is. But that's my problem not theirs. I chose Smiths for my daughters first birthday cake. I was super disappointed when the told me they were out of the cake topper we wanted.....until the bakery manager popped up and volunteered to drive to another store and get it for us. Plus they helped me design a super cute smash cake using a sugar picture I got elsewhere. And even used the extra sugar sheets to make fancy Minnie cookies! My family and I shop here at least 2x a week and always have a pleasant experience. I usually go through self check out, where the attendants are always so helpful and friendly. They also shower my son with attention and smiths stickers. Of all the times I've shopped here, Ive only had one experience purchasing a tampered item, which I simply exchanged for a new one. I appreciate that they offer free fruit to kids and they make the free Friday downloads easy to find with a big sign. I have been shopping at the juan Tabo/Eubank location recently due to a change in schedule, and while the service there is fine, there are other little things that they don't do, that the academy smiths does which I appreciate. read more
