The arcade games, the carpet, the clanging of bowling balls... Since it was a charity event we didn't have much interaction with the THL folks but I can tell you we had a 2 hour block of bowling and we had 2 lanes for 8 of us. One lane, lane 15 kept breaking repeatedly. Out of 2 hours with 4 bowlers and the repeated break downs meant the team on lane 15 couldn't even play 2 full games. It was hard to get the staff to answer our help call and fix the lane in a timely manner. So glad we went for a charity because it it wasn't for a charity I would have been very upset over our time spent bowling vs. paid value. FYI: You could get drinks but no food. Snack bar was closed.

The lane was easy to set up and start using. I like that 1/2 hour options are available (though I used an hour) - an ideal situation if you have little kids. When I checked in on Yelp, I received a free pitcher of a soda. I would go again and recommend for children and adults. (There were mostly adults and they seemed to keep kids off to the side, which I appreciated both as a parent and an adult.)

Some people may not see the Town Hall as a business, but it is…read more North Providence has their own traffic tribunal if you need to dispute a ticket or pay a fee. It's only held about twice a month, and it's very different than RITT if you've been there. I have had the disfortunte of going to both. RITT is very formal, while NPTH is very... well, informal as far as these things go. Expect to pay your ticket, along with court fees, as the judge does not often waive any. Remember, North Providence has their own court, there's probably a reason for that. As far as paying for your fees/tickets/etc, please be advised, there is a 7.50$ fee if you pay via credit card. They don't accept cash. Checks are your friends. Get there early, you'll get better parking that way.

Rhode Island has a whole lot of old cemeteries. That's because instead of moving and consolidating…read morethe small graveyards into the larger ones like most states did, Rhode Island let the family and small town cemeteries stay where they are. Even made them into historical sites. So these old graveyards are everywhere in the Rhode Island. People that live here get use to them but when someone visits from another area they frequently notice the small graveyards that seem to located in strange or unlikely places. Some are in parking lots, behind stores and houses and there is even a tiny and very old graveyard right near the runway approach at the International airport. This historical cemetery is located sort of behind the Smithfield Town Hall and seems to be a family graveyard. I saw a lot of the names Loomis and Lomas on the stones. Most of the graves are from the mid 1800s, not particular old, but some do have interesting, it worn designs. The entire graveyard is surrounded by a cool, old fence. Not a large graveyard and certainly not an very old one. However it is historical and deserves to be remembered.

Not far south of Providence, right on the water, with a good 30k people or so living here, including one of my best friends from college. Amazing food around here, very unique. What a wonderful corner of America this is. Not cheap, in fact quite expensive, but gorgeous, right by the water, lots of boats, and somewhere I'd consider living myself.

Henry and Mark…read more The Fairhaven Town Hall is a stunning building that sits just across the street from the equally stunning town library. Both buildings were gifts from Henry Rogers, the very, very, very, very wealthy businessman who spent summers in Fairhaven. The building was opened in1894 and is constructed in the French Gothic Style. Huge, ornate, and resplendent, the building dominates the center of the small town. The inside is as wonderful as the outside with oak paneling, stain glass windows and lovely pictures everywhere. At one time the building also held the post office, police station and even a jail inside but now is mostly restricted to administrative offices and the usual town hall stuff. One the second floor is an amazing auditorium that held dances, plays, concerts and all kind of cool events. Mark Twain, who was a close buddy of Henry Rodgers, entertained here as well as other famous actors and musicians. The town hall has a lot of cool history and is an amazing building that continues to serve the community. Stunning inside and out, the building remains a very useful and beautiful gift from a very, very, very, very generous man.

(see…read moreBoston RMV review) I'm not exactly sure that the Cambridge City Clerk's office is normally a high traffic area, but as I understand it, anything having to do with the city or state requires a minimum 2 hour wait and donation of your non dominant hand's pinky finger. We were there to get a domestic partnership (not a marriage. Lets be clear) because since Health insurance is required now (gripe mumble gripe) well you know. Anyway, since my company is national, they offer health benies to domestic partners. Thus we found ourselves at City Hall. We walked in. No Line... We were helped right away and with a smile..... We filled out the paperwork, raised our right hand, said we were telling the truth, and didn't have to show any documentation whatsoever........ We were in and out in 5 minutes. WHAT?!?!?! Not complaining, just baffled. The clerk also told us that our license/documentation or whatever would be in the mail tomorrow, but we'll see if that happens. So now we are happily partnered in domesticity, I didn't waste my entire day, we both have all our fingers and health insurance in case we do lose one. Sweet. EDIT: Our paperwork did indeed arrive that Saturday, and retains its 5 star rating.

Every year I have to go down to city hall to get my pup re-licensed. No big deal, especially…read morebecause no matter how busy I've seen the offices, I've always been in and out of there quickly- like within 10 minutes at the MOST! And the staff have been friendly and helpful every time. I've also had to go in person to take care of a ticket, and the woman at that particular desk was kind and helpful, too. My only complaint was that the ticket said to go to one location, but when I got there, I was redirected back to where I had started off. No big deal, just a bit annoying. Even on the phone, the city staff are helpful and kind. In one instance, I had forgotten to pay something (can't remember what now), but the woman on the phone very kindly helped me get the information I needed, and made sure I knew I had to call her back with the payment confirmation by a certain time (well before closing) to make sure I wouldn't be penalized. I was so grateful for the heads up! There's a ton of info on the city website, but if you have to go down in person, it's not an unpleasant experience. :-)
