Attended a charity event Saturday night. Man do I love duckpin bowling! I stepped right back into a piece of my childhood when I stepped onto THL. The arcade games, the carpet, the clanging of bowling balls... Since it was a charity event we didn't have much interaction with the THL folks but I can tell you we had a 2 hour block of bowling and we had 2 lanes for 8 of us. One lane, lane 15 kept breaking repeatedly. Out of 2 hours with 4 bowlers and the repeated break downs meant the team on lane 15 couldn't even play 2 full games. It was hard to get the staff to answer our help call and fix the lane in a timely manner. So glad we went for a charity because it it wasn't for a charity I would have been very upset over our time spent bowling vs. paid value. FYI: You could get drinks but no food. It had been quite a while since I'd been here and I have to say I was quite happy with my recent experience. The place was clean and the employees were pleasant. The lane was easy to set up and start using. I like that 1/2 hour options are available (though I used an hour) - an ideal situation if you have little kids. When I checked in on Yelp, I received a free pitcher of a soda. I would go again and recommend for children and adults. I've been coming here since I was a little girl and we always have fun here. But the last time I went I noticed that it was a little bit outdated & there were problems with the lanes and the flooring was a bit uneven, but hey that's what adds to the charm of Town Hall Lanes. We kept having an issue with our lane, but it was genuinely no big deal though. All of the employees were prompt to fix it and they were also super friendly and great with my 3 yr old son Frankie. I think it was $35 for an hour which is a bit on the expensive side- but maybe it's not because that's for 3 of us bowling- but it was nice because they have a ton of video games (which my son loves), they also have Keno, and they also serve liquor/alcohol! So there is a little something here for everyone! They also do a ton of leagues here- so if you're into that thing- I know they have them here. Town Hall Lanes was the site of a recent Friday night excursion out with friends. The lanes are located in a small strip mall accompanied by a bar and some other various businesses. Unassuming from the outside, the interior is a calamity of loud music, large groups of youngsters, and a multitude of bright colors. My friends had called ahead to make a reservation, without which, we would not have bowled that evening. Prices are reasonable at $14 per bowler during Cosmic Bowling. For this price, 2 bowlers have an hour at the lane while 4 or more warrant 2 hours. Having this time cap was stressful towards the end as we started bowling as fast as we could to try to finish our game. . . to no avail. Frustrating to have to pay $5 more per 15 minute increment if you are one that wants to finish out a game. Lanes were extremely crowded, which was to be expected given the day of the week. Obnoxious teenagers goofing around to the right, decent group of people to our left. If I were to ever return to these lanes, I'd try to go on a weekday to decrease the anxiety that comes with large crowds huddled close together. Cheap pitchers of light beer ($8) available at the full bar. Nice to enjoy at the table behind our lanes. Electronic scoring was convenient but as I recently discovered, I prefer scoring my own games. Staff here were extremely busy dealing with the crowds. They were quite adamant about reminding the teams on both sides of us to clear their fallen pins in between turns. Very adamant. I'm told that you are suppose to. . . but what does it matter if you miss a few. (Anyone with an answer, I'd love to know!) Not sure I'd really want to come back here, staff were impersonal due to high volume crowds and the music was obnoxiously loud. If anything, it'd be a weekday and there'd have to be a good deal going on. . . as there are plenty of other duck pin bowling establishments to try out in Rhode Island. read more

I was seriously impressed by Town Hall Bowling Lane after recently visiting it's ghetto cousin Legion Bowl. The differences between the two are night and day. For one, Town Hall Bowling is in a much better area, the building itself appears newer and cleaner, the bumper guards used for kids are metal rudders rather than foam logs that need to be manually put in place, and the scoring is totally computerized and foolproof (you pretty much don't have to do anything!). It's really so straight-forward and easy. The staff is also really friendly. We had several occasions where balls got stuck and even once when the bumper fell down, and the staff was pretty quick to help us out and even added a few minutes to our clock (the computerized scoreboard lets you know when your time is running out so you can add more time if you need to) to make up for the time we had to wait. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting Town Hall Bowling Lane. The adults didn't actually bowl during our recent visit (just the kids), but from my experience there I'd happily go back even for myself if I was in the mood for bowling! It would easily beat out Legion bowl as the other local alternative. read more

We got to the bowling alley at 830pm thinking it stayed open until 10pm per the website. When we got there, the person at the counter told us he was closing it at 9. He let us pay $10 for the 3 of us to bowl for 30 minutes. In that 20 minutes of playing we watched him turn down at least 20 customers from starting to bowl. There was no bartender. The snack bar was closed. It was a huge disappointment. Also our lane froze before our short time was up - and the guy pretended not to notice until we left and acted surprised. Went yesterday for the first time ever duck bowling! The guy at the counter was very nice and helpful. The kids and I enjoyed it to the fullest! Duck pin bowling is a dying breed. This is one of the last ones to hold on. I hope they last. This is good affordable, clean family fun. It's even good for the littles ones with the little hands. The only way it seems that these places make it is if they increase their pricing considerably - but then they would have to do major updates in order to justify the increase. She lost her mind and was yelling what are you doing like I was stealing when I was try to let my kids start the game. Town Hall Lanes is an old-school duck pin bowling alley. The lanes are nice and it has an older feel with a snack bar, arcade, and bar. The arcade is underwhelming with mostly ticket games, and the prizes are meager (army men, starburst chews). I didn't use their bathroom but was told by a league person that they're in horrific shape, so I'm glad I didn't go into it. I came here last Saturday night to get my bowl on. Had an absolute blast. I was with a large group and we got 2 lanes next to each other. I am normally a fan of the big balls (not literally) so these took a little getting used to. Hence my big fat zero my first time up. It was not very crowded and the pitchers were dirt cheap. I went there today with my son and his friend to bowl for a couple of hours and wanted to use the Groupon that I had just purchased. I had some trouble with Groupon showing that I actually paid for this Town Hall Lanes Groupon. Luckily, I had the email showing that I had paid it. Love it here! Always friendly staff and very clean, which is important to me. I've been to other bowling alleys and they are run down and filthy, however this place clean and up to date! We had a lot of fun here tonight. We had never done duckpin bowling before so that was fun. I'd have to say the facility is fairly clean. Certain things, however, need to be updated. I felt like I kept seeing one of the attendants running to the back to fix pins and balls that were stuck in lanes. Perhaps the system could be modernized. The prices were fairly reasonable. They do have a section of other "arcade games". They have some virtual reality which is very modern () and some old-school games. The staff was very friendly. With a check in on yelp I got a free picture of soda. Overall it was a fun family night out! read more

Love this bowling alley! They have great leagues for all ages! My son is in the youth league, there are two league days for them! Plus adult leagues! They are very clean, professional looking staff that are happy to see you! Maby because people are not doing fun physical activities too much anymore? But we love it. They have cosmic bowling on Friday nights, and some great packages to get like bowling, pizza, and pitcher of soda!! They have great accomodations for birthday partys too! My son and I attended a birthday party for one of his little friends this past weekend. It sits back in the plaza so I almost missed it while driving. Doesn't look the best from the outside, but my son had a great time, so that's all that really matters! The tabled were set up right in the aisle as you walk in, so it was a little cramped because there was another party going on right next to us, but it wasn't too annoying. The kids all sat down for their chips and pizza, then off to bowl! The smaller bowling balls are definitely great for the kids and my son did really well for his first time bowling. Also, I have to say the staff person that helped with the party was very friendly and upbeat (I've been to parties where the staff looked miserable). After that it was cake time... a few more minutes of bowling, and that was it. I would definitely consider having a bday part here in the future. read more

Came here for a night of bowling with a group of 12 and was a wonderful time. Is it outdated a little bit yes it is but cost wise you can't go wrong. It cost us 10.00 per person for two hrs of bowling and that included shoes. Now be it yes they are the small balls which is called duck pin bowling. So if that isn't your thing then don't come here. If you don't mind then cost wise there is no other place to go. They have a full bar and snack bar and normal bowling food of pizza, fries and some wraps. Bathrooms are OK not the best as they are old as well. Staff was friendly and very helpful and accommodating. read more

I've lived in Johnston for more than 10 years now and somehow I've never stopped by here. Finally, came in a few weeks ago with my toddler son during the day and had such a fun time. I've never played duck pin bowling but apparently it's a thing LOL. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Took the time to explain how everything worked and if I needed anything else to not hesitate to ask, which is always nice. They also have a nice arcade in there for the kids. Well, what do I say? There are two amazing leagues that I have participated in over many years. I have nothing to complain about with either league. The facility on the other hand needs some love and help. First, the men's bathroom. One stall has been broken for MANY years and the bathroom itself is not handicap accessible. There is plenty of space to expand both restrooms and update the plumbing and accessibility. Secondly, the spending on the new virtual reality area of the bowling alley could have been better spent on other upgrades. The approaches and lanes are worn out and need to be updated. I also think some time should be spent coming up with solutions on the mechanics of each lane. I am aware the machinery is not being manufactured anymore, but there are great staff members that have great ideas to help fix the equipment. The big and most important issue is the current manager/owner. The general manager, Paul is amazing! The owner/manager doesn't care about the lanes and leagues as he would more the money. Sometimes putting money into the place gives a bigger ROI. The lanes would be better off in the hands of someone who would love them and care for them as if this was their home. One personal issue I have is the admin of the Facebook page banned me because I simply posted these similar issues on their page and instead of owning up to them and speaking to me, they banned me immediately and refused to talk to me. I'm not happy with the upper management there. They need to listen and stop denying what needs help. They also should listen to their staff when they have recommendations and ideas to help. Virtual reality is NOT one of those ideas. This is a bowling alley. We all can see where this place is headed, to close it's doors. It's time not to let that happen.
