This bridge connects two neighborhoods Wickenden Street and the Jewelry District. The last time it moved was in 1959, because it's a swing bridge, however, it is now fixed in place; there is no use for it now since large boats cannot come through due to the hurricane barrier. There are sidewalks and it's a great view of the river when walking across it. I gave it three stars because it needs a new paint job, it had lots of graffiti on it. Overall, it plays an important role with connecting neighborhoods and a popular road well traveled by the Rhode Islanders.

For many years, it was the only bridge connecting those two sections of the city until the Pedestrian Bridge opened in 2019. Still if you are driving, this is the most convenient link for motorists. The bridge used to be a swing bridge for many years, but no more. The bridge no longer opens for boats. The bridge has no opened for boats since 1959. The Fox Point Hurricane Barrier constructed in 1966 ensured that this river would never again be navigable for significant boat traffic. An earlier swing bridge at this location was an iron bowstring span dating to 1872. Today, lots of graffiti cover the metal beams and supports, but still, it is a pretty sight, especially at dawn and at night, when it is lit.

The EP Police were able to make the kids birthday's memorable by doing a drive by with lights, sirens and happy birthday messages from the officers! I know they are very busy but both my husband and I along with our son thank them for helping us make some special birthday memories in an otherwise difficult time!

Stones clocks and…read morespirals The Swansea Town Hall is a lovely old building constructed in 1890. It is a very vertical looking structure made from local field stones. A stunning and lovely sight to anyone that loves old stone architecture. The stones are rough and of different types and colors. Gives the building such a cool texture and look. With it's very narrow and vertical shape it reminds me of an miniature version of a medieval cathedral. The huge but not functioning clock almost looks like a giant eye peering out of the top. The inside is surprisingly small due to the narrow space. Just a bunch of administrative offices and people going about doing their jobs. Everyone was pleasant and friendly and enjoyed talking about the great place they worked. I did find a cool spiral staircase that led upstairs but it was just for storage and all the doors were locked. Not even sure they was a way to get to the very top. It didn't matter. The glory of this grand old building is seen from the outside. A town hall to savor and appreciate. Their kind will not be built again.

I've walked past the Fox Point Veterans Memorial more times than I could possibly count,…read moreparticularly during the years I lived in Providence. It's easy to pass by without giving it much thought because it isn't a huge monument or some grand attraction that demands your attention. It's a relatively modest memorial sitting near the Point Street Bridge, but once you actually stop and look at it, there's quite a bit there. The memorial was created by Aristide Berto Cianfarani, an Italian-born sculptor who studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, and it was dedicated in 1951. It was commissioned and paid for by the people of Providence as a memorial to local residents who served during World War II. The granite monument has bronze reliefs on both sides. One depicts male service members in combat dress, while the opposite side depicts women serving in the military. There are also olive branches representing peace and a bronze eagle on top. What I find particularly interesting is that the memorial has had something of a second life. It wasn't always situated where it is today. Its original location was farther up near Wickenden Street, where it was difficult for pedestrians to really see or appreciate. Eventually it was moved to its current location near the Point Street Bridge, where it became much more accessible to people walking along the waterfront. There's also something very Providence about the memorial itself. It was created for the people of the city, commemorating men and women from the community who went off to serve during World War II. Providence was, and remains, a city built around neighborhoods. Fox Point has changed dramatically over the decades, but having something like this tucked into the landscape provides a physical connection to an earlier Providence and to the people who lived here before the city became what it is today. I've always liked stumbling across things like this when walking around Providence. You don't necessarily need to make a special trip just to see it. If you're already in Fox Point, walking along the river, or crossing the Point Street Bridge, take a minute and stop. Look at the bronze work, look at the details, and think about why someone bothered to build it in the first place. Five stars from me. Not because a memorial is an attraction in the conventional sense, but because it is an accessible piece of Providence history that deserves to be noticed. I've passed it countless times, and I suspect I'll continue doing exactly that for years to come. Sometimes the places that become familiar parts of a city are the ones worth slowing down for every once in a while.

There are two sides; four male soldiers with rifles, each representing the Marines, Navy, Army, and Armed Forces; four females in the military are on the right side. I really appreciate the representation of the females in this sculpture. The symbol of peace which are olive branches and a bald eagle, which is the national symbol for the U.S. can be seen on it. I was walking by and had to stop and admire it.

Pianos kitties and…read moreoil The area around Pomham Rocks has been annoying and harassing ships every since ships have ventured into this part of Narragansett Bay. Difficult to see in the fog or at low tide they have claimed many a victim. So way back in 1828 a simple tower was put up to warn ships. This of course proved to be inadequate so in 1871 the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse was built. Many lighthouses look similar and have the same design but the Pomham Rocks Light is a unique lighthouse that is more of an house than a light. In fact at one time it had a piano and people would stand on the shore about 800 feet away and listen to the music played by the talented keeper. The half acre island also had a fine garden and a several dogs and cats living there. Quite a comfy place. In fact one of the kitties name Tommy became quite famous for his skill in fishing. He would sit on the rocks near the water and when an unsuspecting fish would go by Tommy would grab it and bring it to shore. Tommy became quite an celebrity for his skill and personality. The actually name of the lighthouse and rocks is probably in honor of a Narragansett sachem who died in King Phillips War in 1776. Lots of history and very old names around here. The light was active until 1974 when a modular tower replaced it. It then just sort of sat neglected like lots of other lighthouses. Finally it was purchased by the Mobil Oil company in 1980. Hard to believe that a big oil company would give a flying crap about a lighthouse but apparently someone in the the company did. The oil giant gave the lighthouse and island to the lighthouse foundation of Rhode Island and the light was restored and relit in 2006. Hard to believe I would say something positive about a large oil company but Mobil does deserve a big pat on the back for this. The light can now be seen from the East Bay Bike Path or the Stone Gate Apartments on Rt 103. Of course yaking out to the cool light is the best view but you absolutely cannot go on the island. This is a unique light with tons of cool history. Just maybe someday it will be opened to the public and fools like me that dream about going into old lighthouses.

This Skybridge can be found near the South Garage of the mall and CVS. The bridge goes over Memorial Blvd. It's currently painted yellow and is covered with glass. This is a great feature because it's safe and protects people from the elements, especially in the winter. I've been walking through this since the early 2000s. On the other side of the Omni, the Convention Center is also connected to it. We would park at the mall and walk through this bridge and the hotel to get to the convention center. Overall, a great addition to the city and definitely a landmark that needed to be added to Yelp!

They offer a lot of medical services here and they accept almost all insurances. Call and check it out. The waiting area is clean , they have a few chairs, magazines and a tv. The rooms are also very nice and clean and kind of cozy. I also do enjoy the way the doctors treat you here. I just sincerely love everything about this place. They take mental health very serious here , they have pictures all around saying it's okay to speak about mental health. They also have condoms in the room and at the front , I love how they do this especially for teens who would be shy to ask. They also have a lot of pamphlets to educate yourself with everything which I appreciate. For example safe sex , birth control options and mental health. They have a decent sized parking lot as well. They do take same day appointments which I appreciate.

Not knowing what to expect, I was apprehensive. Everyone was wonderful - the sign- in people, the vaccinators, the checkout people. I was so pleased with how my sibling was treated. Have have never been summoned to jury duty before. Perhaps that is a result of living in several…read morestates and countries over the past decades. Sounds reasonable. A post card was mailed with instructions to complete and online survey. Got an immediate notification that I was selected (woo-hoo!?) followed by a letter about a week later with date and time to appear for Grand Jury service. The Grand Jury meets once a week on Tuesdays and jurors must be available for a three month commitment. You find out if you are either a juror or alternate on day one and the date when your three months are completed. Jurors receive an email with which dates you will be needed. They pay $25 for each day you serve. Alternates only serve if a juror is dismissed. It was a very interesting process on day one. Bags are scanned and you walk through a metal detector. The check-in office is straight ahead and turn left. There are signs. Present your paperwork and ID and once you sign in have a seat in the next room. They had HGTV on and even though signs say to turn off your cell phone, everyone was using them. The Grand Jury does not hear trials, they hear evidence and vote on whether there is enough to go to trial. It's an interesting process of hearing state evidence and you can ask the witness(es) questions. So that's different. Of the 23 jurors, only a dozen have to vote in favor of moving forward to trial unlike at trial where everyone must agree. We were in and out in about two hours on day one. Court days you show up before 9:30 and leave nlt 4pm. There is a cafeteria and restroom on the ground floor. Court rooms are on upper floors. Free parking in garage behind the building or call to get a bus pass. Now you know.
