Quite a few kids showed up it was really nice. We drove one hour and 40 minutes to get here and it was well worth it. Really don't know much about the school, only that it was small, but I think there's only like 4000 people that live in yerington lol. I do know that we really enjoyed the wrestling coach. He is very helpful and put the clinic on today for free. We will happily return for the next clinic.

Prior to coming to…read moreSVA he attended a large public school in California, putting in very little effort and earning decent grades. He says now that he didn't really know how to study. Small classes, individualized attention, clear expectations, and most importantly, mandatory 2-hour study hall resulted in a near perfect GPA after only his first semester at SVA. He's more mature, has gained confidence, and in general seems much happier with his newfound success. Thankfully, he is much more interested in actively defining his future. With the help of his teachers and SVA staff, he applied to several colleges and is very excited about his upcoming Freshman year. We are very proud of our son and are looking forward to seeing his bright future unfold with its many choices. He would certainly not be in this position had he not left the public school in which he was merely average, and attended SVA where he learned to EXCEL! He has learned lessons about himself in the last two years that will stay with him forever. Finally, after taking one semester of SAT prep at SVA, my son's SAT score improved by nearly 200 points (and it was pretty good to start)! That's real and measurable success!

The ownership group has attempted to restructure the organization multiple times, but those changes have not addressed the underlying issues with leadership and management. In my experience, the current Director has shown very little concern for the employees, and the impact of that leadership has been significant. From last year to now, the school has reportedly lost a substantial portion of its staff, which should be a major red flag for prospective families. I encourage parents to read the reviews, speak with current and former employees, and do your own research before making a decision. Families deserve to know what they are signing up for.

She has conducted a Eval in 20 degree snowy weather with a driver with bad bronchitis. That driver got pneumonia. She belittles drivers and I've seen good drivers brought to tears. They expect drivers to have perfect kids or the driver gets written up. They put special needs kids on a regular route, but the driver can't know who is special needs. Because of privacy laws. But in a special needs bus, the driver gets lots of paperwork on all the details of that child. If a special needs child is disruptive on a regular route.... they will not do anything to the child ( like remove them) because they are special needs... but if they ( special needs child) aren't perfect, the driver gets written up. If a parent complains because a kid tells his Mom you are mean... they go on a witch hunt. Also, the busyard is left open most nights, and there is no cameras or lighting for drivers returning late in the evenings from field trips. I reported sexual harassment and they wouldn't follow up. Suit yourself... be warned!

The kids are always yelling out profanity and I never hear the staff taking control of that. I ride BMX bikes out in front of my house and the kids will insult me and make fun of me and staff does nothing. Sometimes when they leave the gates open during the day I will take my kids to the school to play on the field and staff always kicks me out. They have even kicked my son and I out for riding our bikes in the parking lot. Total power trip on the staff side. They don't want any kids to enjoy the facilities at thier expense. A place that is built for kids but no kids allowed. Makes a lot of sense.

The teachers bully my daughter too and nothing gets done. I've had to resort to calling the superintendent to try to get things solved. The staff at this school are immature and do nothing. One of the teachers Ms Lange won't let my daughter go to the bathroom, get water and threw a pencil at my daughter, which hit her and when I called and told the school nothing was done about it. The front desk ladies laugh at me when I call. They have cameras in the rooms but they're only turned on "in case of emergencies" the cameras should be on all the time so the behavior of the teachers can be caught but of course the school doesn't want that. So far I have liked all the teachers (Thompson, Gianotti, Benecke, Tremayne, and N. Smith). They communicate well via E-mail and phone. There is an ample amount of homework (enough to be beneficial, but not overwhelming). The PTA has family movie nights that our family enjoys. The movie admission is free and snacks are available for purchase. The school nurse and cafeteria staff are well educated in the area of food allergies, which I appreciate.
