Some good points about the place and people.. Some cool cats there willing to teach you and share their knowledge which was great for one who knows nothing.There are a few really good people working there{they are not the ones in charge though] The owner is a Bully [little person complex] My draw length was wrong. peep alingment was wrong. All my inserts came out on 1st set of arrows, 1 loose now on 2nd set. They did not have the patience for or listened to a beginner. Owner is special, we had an interaction. Old man Big mouth. I walked away. Not what I wanted to do. The good was good the bad was aweful. I will never go back, dissappointed. I am enjoying my Bow and Shooting just have to do it someplace else now. read more

This is truly a terrific place! My girlfriend and I visited for the first time after going to the Ren Faire upstate and shooting arrows there. We've been back a half dozen times since. The staff is so helpful and courteous, and the enjoyment you get for the cost is truly remarkable. Even if you have no intention of ever hunting or competing, this is a great "couples" thing, as you get to do something together that is a whole lot more fun than going to the movies! Came here recently with the lady...she landed a groupon so figured we'd check it out. The store in the front is STOCKED! Tons of equipment for every level archer. The guys behind the counter were welcoming and helpful. The instructor we had for our session was very friendly and helped walk is thru the basics. Being complete newb's to archery...we needed a little guidance. We got to shoot for about an hour. Surprisingly, we both got really into it. 104 days into a new el tiro al arco experience my Diamond bow malfunctioned, ugh. Into the shop for a rebuild. done. Hmm, what is happening, accuracy is suffering, what could be the issue? I called Smith Point Archery for a lesson, and what a hands on informative experience. The coach, Deanna, instantly noticed the "other" shop set an incorrect draw length. Also the "40" minute lesson focused on form and technique, with one very special "If you only remember one thing from this," remember this moment, which I continue to use to this day with repeatable results. Last night was the night my girlfriend and I finally cashed in our Groupon and became Robin Hood/Katniss Everdeen for the evening. Well, things started off a little shaky as we had a tough time finding the place. Directions will take you to a shopping center, but just so you don't think you're crazy, it actually is in that shopping center.......on the left....underground. Once you locate the door, you'll head down into a world you may be unfamiliar with. Tons of bows, shooting gear and equipment, giant animals (well, ones having gone through the taxidermy process) and a pretty large shooting range. The first few moments, we felt out of place, and rightly so as this whole environment had almost a private club kind of feel. Though, if you're offering a Groupon, you would hope to not be stared at by everyone who walks by you. Comfortability was lacking at first until a few of the employees decided who was going to give us (and another couple) the shooting lesson as per the Groupon deal. The range was split by a large wall, basically putting us in a private room with the other couple. This was actually refreshing as there was no one to scoff at our ill attempts to shoot arrows. The employee was friendly in giving us steps in how to load the arrow, stand, and shoot, as well as safety for retrieving the arrows at the end by the target ("clear" is the magic word). Once the lesson was done he left us on our own and we started shooting. Honestly, it was a ton of fun. We had paid for an hour, but they gave us until closing time (hour and a half) which was nice. I didn't think we'd be shooting for that long, but once you start, you don't want to stop. At the end, we got to keep our target sheets (I did pretty darn good for my first time) and though my fingers/back are a little sore today from pulling and holding the bow, I would definitely return for another round. Overall, though entry and initial customer service was a bit sketchy, it all turned out great, and I would recommend anyone who has ever wanted to be like Legolas (LOTR, anyone?) to go give it a shot. read more

Here's the Scoop: My honey made an appointment on Groupon for today. There are several ranges here. Bow & Arrow rentals are $10 per hr pp. for 2 $18, $33 for 4. All lessons are by appointment only. 12 lanes here and they fill up quickly on weekends. I haven't tried it but I've watched my husband who enjoys this sport immensely. If you have your own bow & arrow the instructors here will help you to adjust your bow. They are helpful and patient for first timers. It's a very nice establishment. Yelpers come and check it out! There are Groupon deals for Smith Point Archery Lanes and the one I chose was $18 for two people for an hour of shooting with mandatory training included. You will have to make a reservation before showing up if you opt for this. The training took around 15-20 minutes and we were taught the basics such as how to position ourselves, place our arrows, and how to shoot them. The instructor stuck around for a little while to answer questions we had, then let us practice on our own. For this entire session, you'll most likely be placed with a group and you'd have to cooperate. Cooperate as in you aren't allowed to fetch your arrows (4 per round) until everyone else is done shooting theirs for safety reasons. If you're into something more fast paced without the training, they have a whole day of shooting for $25. read more

I'm new to archery, and this is the only archery shop I have ever been in. So I'm not sure how it compares with other shops. With that said, I think this place is great. I came here with a pretty good idea of what I wanted, a good hunting bow to learn to shoot with and eventually take out in the field. I wanted a quality product, I wanted to skip the more introductory bows in an attempt to save money. The first time I came I was surprised at how busy it was! They shop is in a large basement under a strip mall off main, and 2/3 of the space is an archery range, I thought that was really cool. The staff was super nice but they had so many customers of different skill levels and they were really doing a good job to cater to them all. They could have said here buy this bow but instead said come back when we are a little less busy so we can better match you to the bow you want. I like that, they were more interested in getting the product I want instead of making a sale. When I came back they really did walk me step by step through the whole decision process, listened to what I was looking for, and showed me 3 different models of bows of varying price points. After I made my decision, they set it up with a good draw strength and measured me for the right size arrows. After the purchase I got a free archery lesson and 6 months of free range time. A very positive experience from beginning to end. If you're a beginner or a modern day Willam Tell, this is a great spot to shop for your archery needs. read more

As a second stop in Patchogue, my friends took me to Smith Point Archery Lane for... you guessed it... archery! I had not done archery since middle school but was very excited to give it another go nearly 15 years later. We had a 3:00 appointment but had called ahead (running early) to see if we could swing by at 2:30 instead. They said that would be fine. Unfortunately they did not really honor that early arrival due to another group that was running over their scheduled time and by 3:05 we had to ask them if we could start. On one hand I really enjoy the laid back feeling (they aren't timing you with a strict timer like some places might), but on the other if only one group can shoot at a time it might make more sense to stick closer to 1-hour blocks (unless of course there's no appointment waiting, in which case take as long as you'd like!). The staff here was very friendly. Our coach in particular did an amazing job teaching us how to shoot. In just 10 minutes, all of us being amateurs, we were all getting close to shooting bullseyes (I use this assessment liberally). Our coach in particular also did his best to give us a real appreciation for the sport, and it was really easy to sense his passion. In addition, you can actually buy bows and arrows here of all kinds, as well as the necessary accessories for hunting and shooting with arrows, if that's your thing. Quality seems great here, not that I'm a shooting expert. With a Groupon, you get $25 shooting per person for 1 hour. Not a bad deal! I'll definitely be coming back here again. read more

Preface: I have held off writing this for years.... I'm just a quiet person who loves archery. I'm not a "know-it-all"! I've been an Archer since I was 14 years old. In fact, I purchased my first bow at this shop over 26 years ago. I know the public can generally be annoying. Especially with the advent of the internet. I'm sure this shop gets all sorts of crazy questions and ideas coming from their customers. However, their attitude toward customers is horrible.... They're complete "Archery Snobs".... I wonder how many new people to this sport they intimidate and scare off(?).... It's a real shame... Every single time I am in there, I feel like the employees are attempting to make me feel stupid. I don't even try to converse. It could be something as simple as asking for a certain product. For example, Me: Hi, do you guys carry bare shafts? Associate: What do you need? Me: Axis 260 spine. Associate: That's not an Arrow! (Angrily) Me: I'm sorry, Easton Axis 5mm 260 spine. (Thinking she didn't hear me correctly) Associate: That's not an arrow! That's not a number! Me: ummmmmm.... It is. But, if you don't carry it, no big deal. Associate: No it's not! (With a sarcastic laugh at my face). Me: Look, I'm not looking to argue but, since you're acting like this, I will go back to my house and grab one to show you. Associate: Well, what would you need that for anyway? We carry 400, 340, 300.... Me: I shoot a heavy arrow. 680 grains. It requires a stiff shaft. Associate: Well, we don't carry that (as she openly laughs at me mockingly). I recently received a compound bow as a christmas gift and couldn't wait to use it. My boyfriend and I bought a Groupon for here once so we decided to go back there to use our bows. Their attitudes towards people are not the greatest but they do know what they're doing. They are a very busy place so I can understand how they can become overwhelmed. It seems that they are a little understaffed. However, on the other note, 10 bucks to use the range for the day is a great price. If you look around on Long Island (there isn't a lot), this place has the best prices. There's always someone on the range to spot you and tell you what you are doing wrong if you are open to suggestions. The place is in a basement so it does get quite cold down there. I always have to wear a sweatshirt. The weekends especially Friday nights get very, very busy. So if you are looking for an experience where they can focus on you and give you more attention, you should go during the week. read more

I have been coming here regularly since purchasing a bow in Sep. 2019 and have been consistently impressed by the technical expertise of the staff and the commitment to customer service. I have never had the impression of being sold something I didn't need or wouldn't really work for me. To the contrary, I've been gently dissuaded once or twice from purchasing things I might not need or could be counter-productive to my goals. Used a groupon deal for 4 people today. Very nice experience. The instructor Harry was easy going and funny. Made the beginners' feel more relaxed. He also gave a quick lesson on how to hold and shoot which was very helpful. The range itself has lots of lanes. There is actually two rooms with lanes. Not sure how they are separated. Maybe groupon groups in one and general in the other? Or maybe leagues in one and general in another. Not sure but def good to have two separate rooms. They also have a good size shop and offer deals if you buy equipment from them. I would highly recommend to try it out. It's fun and good practice. I noticed my aim got better as I did it. I met Jared for the first time today! He is an awesome guy and really truly cares about his customers. This place is awesome. They are always nice to me when I go, and recently I got my bow restrung there. I am un sure of what happened but they said something sharp might have hit it. doesn't matter. they replaced my string for free! My husband bought me a compound bow as a gift for Christmas. When arriving to buy bow he was hardly acknowledged by the woman sitting at the counter and he was more of an inconvenience than anything. He pressed on and had to ask for some help choosing a bow for me. After I recieved my bow, my husband and I went in for me to get measured and my bow to be set up for me. Once again being made to feel like an inconvenience that we even showed up. An instructor was there and I asked if I could book in with him "Jared" for the following Monday. No problem he said. Monday rolls around, again more attitude from the woman at the counter. Ridiculous Then the instructor Jared says he needs a few minutes and what happens next ,another client shows up for his 1pm PRIVATE lesson too. Jared is confused and seems to just not know what is happening even though it was him who booked both of us.Was I formed that I could sit around and wait for another time. No thanks. So I decided I would be gracious and reschedule for the next day. Show up the next day for the lesson time and Jared isn't there. The owner Jeff is there he calls Jared apparently jared is on his way. A couple walk in A few minutes later and say they are there for a lesson with Jared and that they just got off the phone with him. 20 min later Jared walks in and stops and looks at.me and says "oh thought you were here Thursday " at this point I am done. Grab my bow and my arrows and walk out. All the while this Jared clown says sorry and the owner is nowhere to be found even though he was involved with trying to figure out where his instructor was and why there is a double booking. AGAIN. Complete disregard for their customers and clients. The instructor is NOT organized at all. Doesnt really give a shit which I apparently with his disorganization skills.The owner? He disappeared as soon as there was a problem. Woman at the counter offered no help and sat there doing nothing. Would never set foot back in the place and won't ever recommend to anyone. I took my first archery lesson at Smith Point Archery with Jared and he was an amazing coach! He explained everything thoroughly and had a lot of patience. He was extremely helpful and personable. I can tell he is very passionate about what he does. He also made sure to go over all safety rules very clearly to avoid myself or anyone around me getting hurt. (And himself as well!) He taught me a lot. Smith Point Archery has a great, friendly, positive upbeat atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and kind. I felt very welcome when I walked in. I would not recommend purchasing a Groupon here. I purchased a Groupon and was planning on taking my family. I called to make a reservation and he said that all of the Groupon reservations were full and that I should call 1-2 weeks ahead. There was no disclaimer on the Groupon site that said reservations were limited or I wouldn't have purchased. I exchanged the Groupon and we are going elsewhere. It might be a great place but when companies advertise on Groupon but make it difficult to book, I don't appreciate that. I will not be giving them a second chance. Bought a groupon for an hour of shooting for two people. We came, got a short lesson, and shot for an hour. It was fun, the staff was nice, my partner shot arrows for the first time. Got what we paid for with Groupon. We were three and after some difficulty finding the place, we had an enjoyable hour, starting off with a useful review of how to use the bows. Targets placed closer than in their main range so everyone had some great results. Lots of people but all happy and plenty of shooting done. Let Me tell it. As a person who loves to shot bow's and arrows ;I had a great time. They have it all for every archer long-bows,compound-bows you name it they have it. The safety instructions are simple and very important.They are so simple that even a small child can follow along and comprehend. It's located in the back of a strip mall;you have to walk around the corner and down the stairs to the basement,but once in side you are in archer heaven.like I said every archer set up you can think of . The prices are great also ,you can spend the day shooting for little to nothing compared to other shooting sport's. I went for an hour long beginner session with my boyfriend. We had SUCH a good time. It was great to try something new! Our instructor was so nice and patient. The space itself was sort of difficult to find. The inside could use a little sprucing. It was dark and felt a little unclean and the equipment we were given to use was sort of tired. Great assortment of equipment for all intended purposes, but the price for servicing is absolutely insane. it costed $110 to have my strings put on. They did not carry the strings i wanted to use so i ordered them and had them put on at the shop. They also wanted to charge me for peep sight installation as well as d-loop installation. I decided to do those myself. The grand total to have strings put on with d loop and peep sight is over 125 dollars. My strings are from 60x custom and come to size based on the model of the bow. Also, the strings came with the servings and speed knocks already on. All in all i am frustrated with the pricing of the labor. I will never go back to that placed after they robbed me once. read more

Had to wait for someone else to help us as the two people at the front desk clearly did not want to do so. It's a bummer to see all the people throwing knee jerk 1 star reviews here for such a great business. It seems spiteful and I don't think people understand they're really hurting the business with these reviews. You'll notice they're all Groupon related, ironically, these are people who probably went here once and will never return. Here's my experience... I went here from Staten Island for two days for a classroom course offered at this location. Just walking in, you can tell these guys are hardcore archery geeks. I haven't seen a store this well stocked with everything archery. In the back they have a workshop with a fulltime tech. Both days of my classes I got my bow out to shoot at the lunch intermission, and for an hour or so at the end of the day, I had to drive back to NYC so I wanted to get some shooting in. Range fees were $10, targets $2. The first day the tech named Way identified an issue with my riser, fixed it for free. I gave him a tip in the tip box he didn't ask for. He used a part he had on hand, and didn't charge me. The second day I snapped a fletching off my arrow and the other tech Adam refletched the arrow for me, again, didn't ask me for anything. There were people chatting at the table in front of the tech shop, just a good vibe. I also had my peep replaced on a recommendation by Craig, I think he's the manager. Nice older gent with a lot of archery and hunting years under his belt. He's clearly a mentor for some of the younger shooters in the place, all the kids there were polite and enthused. The peep he recommended was perfect. They installed it for me, again, a courtesy for buying it there. I wish there was a shop like this on or near staten island, these guys clearly live for this sport, and it kind of makes me a little sad to see the ultra negative reviews for a groupon thing not working out. My experience was professional, generous and knowledgeable. I'm considering bringing my daughter the 1.5 hours here just for lessons. I spoke with a female instructor and she was what I want for my daughter, tough, no nonsense and focused on their skills. This is a dangerous sport, if you watch a movie and want to get a bow in your hands understand, this is n't a bowling alley where they serve cheese fries and popcorn. I assume it isn't a wildly high profit business to be in. These are people that live for this sport, and if you go here, at least from my experience, you'll be in good hands. This is the kind of place you go in and there's regulars hanging out just shooting the breeze talking shop. That's one of the best signs of a good sports store, it's a place people want to be at.
