Extremely unprofessional. I highly recommend any other range. There was a group to the right of us, they had someone who was clearly learning and I completely respect that, however the rounds were hitting the mountain and not the target. The guy working today who drives a green jeep, (Same voice as their answering machine) noticed the rounds hitting the top of the mountain. He decides to come down and starts yelling at my wife and sister in law (the ONLY FEMALES at the range) kicks us all out. Best part is while he's yelling at us, we saw at least 7 more rounds hit the top of the mountain. I pointed it out to him. HE LITERALLY WATCHED it happen right there while no one from my group was near a firearm and still kicks us out. Will NEVER come here again. read more

$25/ person for all day shooting? SAY LESS. It's a very basic outdoor-only shooting range with a pistol only range and a rifle range adjacent to it. Plenty of parking available. Every half hour, there's a staff member calling out "Range is cold" or something like that and you can go down range to change out your targets. There is a small shop on top of the hill when you first drive in that sells essentials like extra ammo, small snacks and other supplies. There are soda machines now for refreshments, as well as, a handy ATM machine for those of us who don't carry cash...LOL My friend came around 1:30pm about a week ago, and we both expended over 250 rounds each and had a great time doing that. You really need to know what you're doing when coming to this range though. There isn't any range safety staff to show you how to shoot though. And there's no safety barriers separating you from the other shooters, so pay attention to where you're pointing your weapon. I learned these weapon safety rules from boot camp. I think it's something everyone, regardless if you're military, law enforcement or civilian should know: "Treat Never Keep Keep" Treat Every Weapon As If It Were Loaded Never Point Your Weapon At Something You Don't Intend To Shoot Keep Safety On Until You're Ready to Fire Keep Your Finger Off The Trigger and Along The Receiver Until Ready To Fire Keeping all that in mind. My first time there - it was great and just as advertised. No nonsense and strict approach to range discipline, once I got oriented to the range and used to the procedure, the 30 minute rhythm was great. I loved going to one spot that had just what I needed for rifles and archery. I zeroed my rifles first at 200 yds each at the rifle range and then my crossbow and bow at the archery spot. First of all it's 25$ a head, bring your own guns/ammo/targets and don't forget staple gun or tape. The old man calls cease fire every 30 min to clear the line to switch your target. Some of the backings are completely destroyed so choose your spot carefully. Now theres no signs up to tell you where to pay or what to do. The old man sits in his green Wrangler and you drive up to him and pay him through the window like a shady business exchange. He flipped out on us because we had no idea who he was and drove past him. He a grumpy A-hole and doesn't deserve anybody's money but 25$ all you can shoot is well worth it if you can look past the listed flaws. read more

Love to shoot here, however its an unsupervised mess. Ive seen egregious use of firearms here, consistent rapid fire and no range instructor to be found. A guy was putting out targets at the 200yds and the line was called, he started screaming. A guy next to us at the 100yds started hip firing a 12ga shotgun with buckshot, hitting everyones targets. Last time I went, a gentleman was hip firing an m16 in rapid fire. Just no rules, eventually something bad will happen here, its only a matter of time. If there was a range instructor and idiots didn't shoot here, this place would be exceptional. read more

Great shooting range! First of all, you can't beat the price. You can keep shooting all day until you run out of ammo! And to all of the people complaining about the old man in the truck...get a grip! He's not waiting on you at a restaurant. He's running a freaking shooting range! People are shooting live freaking ammo! Do you want to not get yelled at? How about you try this...When the old man comes out with his bullhorn every half hour and says "cease fire", you freaking cease fire!!! Put down your firearms and step back from the table and you won't get yelled at. He wants to make sure that when you walk out to your target, nobody gets shot. I highly recommend this range and would go to this range once a week if it wasn't an hour from where I live. read more

Came here for the first-time during November and as we drove into the location, following the dirt road in, a lone pick-up truck waved at us to stop and we paid him $20 per person for unlimited access to the range. It was funny because it was an unmarked truck so could had been anyone. Pro Trump and anti biden signs lined the dirt road as we continued the drive on. Each lane is just bare bone with a table and a seat. There are no other items provided such as sand bags or staple guns so you need to bring your own. I really like the fact you can almost back your vehicle right up to your lane, pop the trunk and have essentially a picnic while you enjoy a full day of shooting. Great spot to shoot, get there early to pick your stall. No bathrooms, no shop, no ammo, no food, no drink, you don't need to pick up your brass, place is riddled with expended shells. Only $20/day! Will be back, just pee in a bottle, bring your own ammo food and drink, ok for me! read more

Messy range, nobody polices their shell casings, whoever the old guy in the jeep rubicon is is miserable. Ive seen nothing of range rules/briefing of the range rules prior to shooting and watched this jeep fly down the hill to yell at somebody and tell whoever that he would call the police and have him arrested if he did whatever egregious crime he commited again. I have been coming here for years. The range officers are always nice and courteous. It seems to be the only range I've been to on Long Island where you have more freedom while shooting. This place does get busy on the weekend. Even before they open there is a decent line of cars waiting. My recommendation is to go about 45 minutes earlier than opening to get the exact spot you want or wait a 2-3 hours after opening to get a spot as people are starting to leave from the morning. They have 50/100/200 yards for rifles and a separate handgun range off to the side. I believe they have skeet shooting and possibly archery but I have never utilized these. They have a trailer that has extra ammo/targets but it is much cheaper to get them at your local store. There is a hotdog truck that is parked there. Food is typical for a hotdog truck but hits the spot while shooting all day. Bathroom scenario are portapotties. read more

Shooting range is nice, but the owner is an awful human being. He berated me for not knowing where to park/pay even though it was my first time there. Then he just drove around yelling at people for doing whatever pissed him off (not anything gun safety related, just whatever he decides he didn't like). Is there a zero star rating? Hard to review the range when you can't get past the nasty,condescending, loudmouthed and insulting representative that handles admissions. Armed people are usually the most helpful, courteous individuals but this guy was an exception. It's a good range to shoot only if you know what you're doing. There's pretty much no safety officers to really help you. The grumpy old owner in the jeep, who many people have complained about, is fine in my opinion. I've never had any problems with him and he's been always nice to me. The only thing you have to worry about is from other shooters who don't follow the basic safe handling of guns. The place is such a free for all shooting, there is a risk of something bad happening if you got some newbie next to you making a mistake. Other than that, it's fine. read more

I really enjoy coming here. Everyone seems to be well behaved. The range guys are good and easy going. I love the fact that I can take my daughter and have her practice. She loves the sport ! I hope it never changes !!! They do need a little updating the benches are beat and the target holders are shot, I mean Shot shot ! AAA++++++ for being able to drive right up and back into your spot , you pop your trunk open and your good. Awesome. $15 is well worth the $$$ read more

Public outdoor long distance shooting ranges have become difficult to find in NY but luckily we have Calverton about 70 miles east of NYC. Not much in terms of facilities but all the basics are there: a 200 yard range; an ammo trailer; porta poties; and, a truck that serves nourishing Sabrett natural casing hot dogs. If you are looking for a good outdoor rifle and pistol range this is the place. 20$ to shoot all day. They have 50,100 and 200 yards. It's a giant sand pit including where you stand/sit to shoot so don't wear your best shoes/boots/sneakers. They sell targets and ammo also. Since it's outdoor the facilities are portable johns. Also you must bring a staple gun to put up your targets . read more

I liked this range, but it is pretty disorganized. We drove past it at first, because our GPS didn't recognize the address. This was not a big problem because the range is in the middle of the Pine Barrens and there's nothing else around. There is a long dirt driveway with confusing offshoots leading to shipping containers, construction equipment, dumpsters, and other objects of dubious utility. Finally we heard gunfire and were able to follow one of the offshoots into the parking lot. On one side of the parking lot, facing a high, sandy hill, there is a row of fifty or so rifle positions with targets off in the distance. On the day we were there, there were many AR variants. We did not shoot at the rifle range, but there seemed to be a range officer who would periodically call a cease-fire and let the shooters go down to check or replace targets. We had a pistol-grip shotgun, so we went to the row of thirty or so shotgun and pistol positions that was roughly perpendicular to the line of rifle positions. The pistol and shotgun positions were considerably more free-wheeling. We learned from the other shooters that to call a cease-fire to hang or check targets, you raise your arm and step back from the firing line. A fair amount of talking and gesturing is necessary, too, because everyone wears hearing protection and for the most part, no one pays much attention to anyone else. Oddly, no one appeared to take our money. We just started shooting. I later learned that a range functionary, who was driving around in a Jeep Wrangler, got our three $15 fees from one of my companions, who had gone to get something out of his truck. None of us had fired a shotgun before. The shotgun targets seemed about 25 yards away and hard to see. Since we had a pistol-grip shotgun, we decided to fire from a pistol position, where the targets were seven to ten yards away. We arranged a cease fire to hang a couple of targets and then spent several minutes reading the manual and figuring out how to load and chamber a shotgun. After firing two or three rounds apiece and banging up our hands, we decided to stop using the pistol-grip shotgun. The shotgun's owner installed an after-market stock, and we fired two or three rounds apiece. At that point, the range functionary noticed that we were using a stock and chased us back to the shotgun positions. He claimed we were going to damage the targets somehow. This seemed harsh to me, as the targets were suspended from two parallel seven-foot-tall, one-by-three inch metal stakes that looked like people had been shooting at them for a long time. Nevertheless, we retreated to the regular shotgun positions, and that was the last of anyone talking to us. We fired a few more rounds apiece and left, congratulating each other on our accomplishment. Aside from hearing protection, we didn't buy anything in the shop, but the people in the shop were friendly and helpful about where we should go. Bring 1) hearing protection 2) binoculars -- it's a long time between cease-fires 3) a good stapler with plenty of staples to hang targets, because it's windy out there, or you could try binder clips. 4) strips of foamboard or corrugated cardboard to staple targets to, and 5) wire to tie the foamboard or cardboard to the metal stakes. read more

Iim a newbie in shooting, bought my shotgun and heard about calverton wonderful $15 / all day price, cant beat that. I got there, pretty much gotta ask question where to shoot what. So i went up to the trailer and asked the kind gentleman then i went to the shotgun area next to pistol range. I just by myself there, so i started walking down the range thought the pistols pretty far and i'm by myself in the range, while putting my target up, i heard some guy in the jeep yelling what the hell was i doing and if i was paying attention at all, and asked for my $15... Lol. I like the range, no crazy rule like other ranges, pretty much use common sense, dont walk down the range while it's "HOT", no rapid fire and work with other shooters if you need to replace the target down the range. Tips, bring your own goggle, ear protection, ammo, own targets, binoculars, staples, water, little snacks if you want to stay more than 1 hr or so. Stay safe! read more

Yeah this place is pretty crazy. It used to be run by some really old dude in a pick up truck but I guess he is gone now. Basically anything goes here which is good and bad. In the Skeet and trap pit they basically let you fire off at whatever for as long as you want for $15. They have all junk around though so be careful! I tripped over a brick with a loaded shotgun. Most people here can handle it, but some people scare me there with their lack of gun safety. The pistol range is call your own line which can also be dangerous if people are irresponsible. the rife range has a slight bit more of order, but again some people there are nuts and fire even after check targets is called. Hot dog stand is awesome, hot dogs and shooting is america hell yeah! Ammo trailer is very reasonably priced. So basically a lot of fun but somewhat dangerous. read more
