I contacted Marco Smith Law seeking representation for an FCRA matter after experiencing serious communication and case-handling issues with prior counsel. From the outset, I explained exactly what had happened, why I was looking for new representation, and the delays and frustrations I had already endured.
Attorney Larry Smith indicated that he was familiar with concerns others had experienced with my prior law firm, which led me to believe my situation was being taken seriously and that I would receive a prompt and straightforward decision regarding representation.
Instead, I spent over two weeks waiting for an answer. Information was provided, documents were submitted, follow-up discussions occurred, and the firm was fully aware that time was important and that I was attempting to avoid repeating the same mistakes I had already experienced with prior counsel. Despite that, I was left waiting without a definitive answer while valuable time continued to pass.
What makes this especially frustrating is that the firm knew exactly why I was contacting them. They knew I was coming from a situation involving poor communication, delays, uncertainty, and a lack of respect and responsiveness from my prior attorneys. Yet I found myself dealing with more delays, more uncertainty, and more waiting.
Even after a decision appears to have been made, that decision was never clearly communicated to me. I repeatedly followed up asking for a simple answer regarding whether the firm intended to move forward. Rather than receiving a direct response, I received vague emails and voicemail messages that failed to answer the question I was asking. At no point should a prospective client have to repeatedly chase a law firm for a yes-or-no answer regarding representation.
If the firm had no intention of taking the case, I should have been told that promptly so I could continue searching for representation elsewhere. Instead, I was left in limbo for weeks while believing a decision was still pending.
My issue is not that the firm declined the case. Attorneys are free to choose what matters they accept. My issue is the amount of time wasted reaching that decision despite knowing the circumstances and urgency from the beginning, followed by the apparent inability to clearly communicate that decision once it had been made.
I also take issue with the firm's claims that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. That was not my experience. During email communications, Attorney Larry Smith and his paralegal referred to me as a "Karen." Whether intended as a joke, insult, or attempt to dismiss legitimate concerns, I found the remarks unprofessional and inappropriate. Prospective clients seeking legal representation should not be subjected to personal labels or called out their name simply because they are requesting updates, answers, or timely communication.
The irony is that I came to Marco Smith Law specifically because I was attempting to avoid the exact issues I had already experienced elsewhere. Instead, after being told the firm understood those concerns and was familiar with similar complaints involving my prior counsel, I found myself dealing with many of the same problems all over again.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Marco Smith Law to anyone looking for timely communication, professionalism, respect, or prompt decisions regarding representation. read more
