The office smells so clean as soon as you walk in, and the staff is so welcoming. my appointment was at 12:00 and I was back and seen within 5 minutes. I Went in for a dot at bottom of tooth. They took xray then was told I need a root canal and crown. Scheduled for both the following week. Had both done and the placement of temporary crown was placed. Went a few weeks later for the permanent crown that came off in less than 3 weeks. Went 8n the office to have it replaced and the dr basically screwed my tooth and the crown was put back on but was told thst the crown will basically not stay on long. Basically he screwed my tooth up under the crown and there's nothing there for the crown to stay on. 1400 dollars with my insurance gone bc his skills of not knowing what he was doing. I'm a single parent that saved for this. A business that's has drs working for him is pathetic. This office engages in deceptive billing and hides behind its own "notes" to dismiss valid complaints. On 8/8/25, I went to the ER for what turned out to be a dental abscess. On 8/11/25 I called this office to confirm they could help and was told yes. On 8/13/25, they took x-rays, said there was nothing they could do, and referred me elsewhere--no treatment, just billable imaging. They knowingly scheduled a visit they couldn't treat simply to generate revenue. On 9/11/25, I returned for a standard cleaning that lasted about 30 minutes total--10 minutes of actual cleaning, the rest x-rays and charting. My EOB shows they billed insurance for a Full Mouth Debridement, a multi-visit, intensive procedure that clearly never happened. This false code reduced my remaining dental benefits. Here's the proof they're not being honest: I was already scheduled for the first of two debridement appointments on 10/9/25. When I discovered the false billing, I canceled that appointment and complained. If I supposedly received a full debridement on 9/11, why was I booked weeks later for the "first half" of one? When I presented this, they ignored the contradiction and said only, "We can go by what's in the notes." They use their own self-written notes as irrefutable evidence while dismissing patient accounts and ignoring scheduling records that prove otherwise. It's gas-lighting wrapped in paperwork. Patients shouldn't lose insurance benefits because a dental office invents its own truth in the notes. read more

I was given a medication that instantly put me in a state of vertigo and nausea. My husband had to be called, and I was guided out of the offices with no help from the staff. After days of illness, I called Smith Dental to ask what they put in my mouth, but they only gave me a partial list and refused to disclose all the ingredients. I am too scared to return to them and have since changed dentists for both my husband and me. read more

My elderly mother was a patient. She was facing a decision about a certain dental treatment and my sister, who has been a dental hygienist for over 20 yrs, suggested I ask the dentist about an alternative treatment that might work better. After the dental assistant told the dentist this, he came into the room & angrily spat out that he didn't appreciate his expertise being questioned by "some hygienist". I tried to say we weren't questioning his knowledge or skill we merely wanted to ask whether the alternative treatment might be an option but he huffed out of the room saying he wasn't going to treat anyone who wanted to question his ability. Customer comfort is not their high note. First, the office temp was less than 70 degrees, probably closer to 65. Page after page of information to fill out, even though I am a repeat customer. ('We just want to make sure everything is up to date.') Then, 2 full sets of X-rays, when my chart says, 'diagnostic X-rays only.' Thirdly, loud, screechy music, which they were able to turn off. Then, a chair that had no useable arm rests and a cleaning in a fully prone position (I've never had that before and won't again). 45 minutes of scrapping and cleaning (tiring to say the least). And when I complained to the dentist about the cold temp, he said, 'You shudda been here last week; it was even colder.' Now what kinda consulation is that. When I went the staff was great and professional. Needed a deep cleaning done, so they ran my insurance and I went ahead and paid them and scheduled the appointmen. So I get a phone call today telling me that they can't do that there. When they sat and explained everything to me and what they would be doing. Now I have to work on getting a refund back from them. Severe tooth pain so much I was loosing sleep and crying to my boss about how bad it hurt. Called my dentist and he highly recommended this place. Called set an appt for 6:00pm. They gave me a 15 minute grace period to get there because I overslept. Dr Traylor came in located the problem tooth and pulled it out. Thank god for him and his team i now can finally smile without excruciating pain and I feel ten times better with the tooth out. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING A SINGLE MOM! I have bad toothache and this was the first office that showed up on my insurance that advertises emergency visits. They rushed me in and took X-rays. The doctor came back and told me that there was a cavity and the tooth needed to be pulled. He very hurriedly ran down a lid of options for implant and a bridge, etc. I couldn't really understand what he was talking about because he was going so fast. The part that I understood was that he wasn't going to pull the tooth and wanted to refer me to their Hartwell office so that the dentist there could pull it. The dentists at the Hartwell office is fully booked until Jan. 12. So I asked the dentist, "What about the pain? I take Advil or Tylenol and it doesn't even knock the edge off. Am I supposed to go for 2 weeks in this amount of pain? " They prescribed me penicillin and said to go to Walmart to get the temporary filling. (They actually said to go to Walmart. I'd laugh if this wasn't so painful.) I got my prescription at CVS and picked up then temporary filling. I am still in a severe amount of pain even with the Tylenol /Advil / temporary filling plan. And also, I am in my 40's. I have no idea how they staff this office, but the dentists there are so young and inexperienced that I felt like I was surrounded by children. They are seriously lacking in patience and manners. It felt more like a race to get me out of there without any consideration and no one took me seriously. read more

BEWARE This was the worst experience I've ever had at a dental or doctors office! They have hired loud, unprofessional children as their hygienists. I had a cleaning and she never used any water. Not one time. She didn't ask me to spit or anything. She just ripped at my dental work. The dentist finally arrived and he seemed put out. I explained there was a part of my molar bothering me. He said "you can live without those. I would really put my money elsewhere. You're no stranger to the dentist. Your teeth are trashed." The worse place I've ever been. Smith was so mean to me. His dental assistant must have been new, she was drowning me with water. I begin gurgling and Smith got so mad and hollowed at me not to do that. I couldn't help it she wasn't taking the water out. He screamed at me. He started giving me more novacaine that I didn't need. He was so mad he told his assistant she didn't know her job. He said a bad word at her. I cried for days I was traumatized for days. Please don't go there. I know they stay open late and open on week ens but it because the people don't go back. Smith owens the dental office and he has more than the one in Anderson. The staff is really nice but these dentists do NOT keep up with current methods. They literally ground my one son's tooth down when it wasn't needed and a cover "filling" had done fine for the first 10 years. I didn't trust the dentist's opinion on my own filling (a cover filling also) when he suggested I needed a crown. Thankfully. I kept him from screwing up my teeth. This place is only good for cleanings. Don't waste your time. You'll end up spending twice as much and having to get the shit fixed by qualified, up to date and current standards. I've been going to the Anderson Smith Dental Clinic for 3 1/2 years and have always had a good experience. However, this year (2019) I've made three different appointments within the last week only to find that I had an hour wait or more. Not acceptable. Today I went at 2:00 because "this is our slow time" and even called ahead 15 minutes before my appointment to make sure there was no wait for my 2:00 appointment. Guess what? I left after 30 minutes and will NEVER GO BACK! This office scheduling is poorly managed. An absolute nightmare! I went in at 4:00 to have 2 teeth pulled and left at 7:30!!! First of all, they were backed up and behind. They would start on me, work a little while, and then leave and go work on someone else. That happened several times. Finally, once he really got started on me he saw that it was going to be a problem so he told the other patient they were going to have to reschedule their appointment. And once he really got started , that was when the nightmare began! He said that I was little but my teeth were big and strong. I was in the chair for 2 hours ( him taking small breaks because he was tired)pulling, and prodding. After 2 hours I heard a popping noise and my roots snapped and I knew that I was in trouble after that. He started digging and drilling and started getting upset. My hygentist left and another came in. I heard him tell her that the first girl could not keep up. ( Both hygentist were very nice. Always asking if I was ok) Another 1 1/2 hours went by he moved me to a different room to where the XRay machine was and started pulling and prodding again. Finally he got the last tooth out but could not get the very last root so he left it in and sewed it up. He wrote me a prescription for a pain medication and the hygentist told him to change it to another prescription so it would not make me nauseous. ( I was very grateful for that) When I stood up and looked in the mirror I almost passed out. One side of my face was so swollen so bad that my eye was completely shut. My lips were split on that same side from having to keep my mouth opened and stretched for 3 1/2 hours!( My husband took pictures but I was too embarrassed to post them) Once it was over and the hygentist could see that I could walk she took me to the check out desk. She then asked me to sign a waiver stating that I give them permission to pull my teeth.( my mom who has had tons of dental work with an actual professional dentist said that she has never heard of that) I signed it without reading it because I was exhausted, traumatized, shaking and ready to get the heck out of there!!! In the meantime my family was texting and calling because they were worried about me because it was taking so long. I got in my car to drive myself home and my husband called and told me that he was coming to pick me up, and good thing he did because I was shaking so bad. He told me that him and my mom called several times and the the receptionist lied to both of them about what was going on that it why noone came up to the office. Everyone that I have talked to could not and still cannot believe what happened to me!! I have had 3 children natural birth and this by far has been the worst experience of my life! I will NEVER return and I highly recommend for you to STAY AWAY! I received a bill in the mail to where they charged over 700.00 for this mess!! Over 400.00 from my insurance and over 200.00 from me. I am not paying a penny!!! I went through pure hell and I am surely not paying for it, I will make sure of that!! The only pro that I have was the two hygentist was really nice and caring. They are fine for a cleaning, but don't have anything else done. They put a filling in for me and didn't do it properly. It broke less than 5 months later. My insurance wouldn't cover my new dentist fixing it since it was the same tooth within a 12 month period. I requested to come back to Smith for it to be fixed. They agreed on the phone after a long discussion. When I got there on the day of after taking a day off work and driving from Greenville, they said they couldn't fix it because it needed a crown. They had already started numbing my mouth before telling me this. I walked out and went back to Greenville where my dentist fixed it perfectly with a new filling. I had to file with my insurance explaining what happened and my new dentist had to send pictures and xrays verifying that it could have been fixed with a filling and Smith refused. read more

I felt the dental hygienist that cleaned my teeth here did a decent job and was pretty thorough. The dentist did not seem to be quite as detailed in the checkup and appeared to rush through like they may have overbooked their appointments. But I got my bi-annual checkup and cleaning done along with X-rays for a pretty good price using Groupon. One thing that they are absolutely terrible at is administrative work. It seems they don't have a dedicated person for this so it's whoever is available and there never seems to be anyone available. It took half a dozen phone calls over about a 3-week period for them to finally get around and doing a minor adjustment on my bill. I am a registered dental hygienist and I did fill in work for this office (located in Anderson, SC) on June 22 and June 23 and as of right now (July 28) they have not paid me. When I try to communicate with their manager - I can't get anywhere. On July 5, 2018 - I receive this text: " I was informed that your check would be cut and sent to you on our next pay period. I did contact our accountant and I do apologize for the situation. You will be paid on Thursday the 19 when everyone else is paid. again I'm sorry for the inconvenience this is not how we do business." Ok, this is very inconvenient but oh well. Than, July 20 rolls around and she texts me again: " ...could you please send me your mailing address to get it over to our accountant I understand you were missing a day of pay. Is this correct?" My reply: "I never received and any pay at all...." as of right now - no one would return my phone calls and I have no way to directly contact the owner, Dr. Charles M. Smith. When someone is doing you a favor and comes in so you don't have to cancel your patients - at least you can do is to pay when you said you would pay. I have to go through the Labor and Licensing Board just to get paid. This is not the way to treat people! read more

This is hard for me to write because I get very emotional when I think of this, but enough time has passed and the public needs to know. I had an emergency dental problem and I chose Smith to handle my procedure. It was only an extraction so it was simple. The procedure went well and I was personally satisfied, so much that I recommended them to my mother, who is now 69. The procedure she needed was not so simple. But 1st let me explain how Smith Dental works.... This is a business that operates 7 days. Unlike most Dentist offices that only work 4 or 5. So the owner/operator isn't always the one who is there to serve you. Well my dentist was not the owner and he was very professional and polite. Unfortunately my poor momma got the owner, who turned out to be the devil. After her appointment she was in tears for the rest of the day. Not only because of how he spoke to her but how bad he hurt her. She said that he was irate with the dental assistant that was apparently new, because she could not properly evacuate the water out of my mother's mouth while he performed the procedure. So the whole time my mother was nearly drowning while he cussed and belittled the young girl assisting. One time as my mother gagged, she got some water on the owner, then he turned his anger on my mother. Saying she spit on him, and for that he not only began to get rough and hurt her, but he gave her extra injections AFTER THE PROCEDURE WAS OVER!!!! To make this matter worse she had paid up front and he said she had to return to complete the work. She was scared beyond belief. That is also the reason she asked me to wait before writing this review. She was afraid of even worse treatment. Now that she returned and the work was finished by another dentist it is time to let the public know. (Being on a fixed income without dental insurance, she couldn't go elsewhere because she has already paid. Also what she spent all that time and money to get fixed was very very poorly constructed and cement was left on the outside that is even visible.) I warn all of you, do not go to this facility, as it is the place of business of Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Smith. Avoid this place like the plague-worst customer service I've ever experienced! Granddaughter had 7 am appointment Monday, July 9 to have wisdom teeth removed; received reminder calls 7/6 & 7/7. Arrived for appointment Monday, July 9 only to be told 30 minutes later that dentist had an emergency & left the practice. Rescheduled procedure for Wednesday, July 11 at 12:30 & guess what-still no dentist nor did we receive a call before we drove there. Thank you for making an uneasy visit much better than expected!!! I unfortunately had to have two extractions due to un-repairable damage to the teeth. I was physically ill anticipating the pain and just the whole experience as I had never had an extraction in the past. The dentist explained what to expect, started and completed the procedure as quickly as possible. I must say I was surprised as he was gentle and genuinely cared about my comfort level during the entire procedure. And as rare as it is these days, they file the insurance and charge based on the 'contracts' with the insurance companies, no surprises at the check out. My only recommendation (that I will make directly to their office) is the dentist didn't actually introduce himself, so I cannot give a shout out to him properly. However, I have and will continue to recommend this office to others. read more

Absolutely the worst service I've ever received. I don't usually post about bad service so that should tell you how awful they have acted. I scheduled an appointment weeks in advance for my wisdom teeth after months of them telling me to let them take them out. Assured me that I didn't have to see an oral surgeon unless I wanted to. They called me AN HOUR BEFORE and told me their one dentist was sick and the other two were uncomfortable to take them out.
