I was born and raised in Warsaw, but I now live in Southern California. When I was growing up, Lowes and Home Depot didn't exist. We depended on our hometown appliance store, Smith Appliances. I recently purchased my grandparent's home in Warsaw when my grandfather passed away. The intent was to turn it into a rental home. There was a need to replace all the appliances including the refrigerator, dishwasher, range, hood, washer and dryer. Being so far away, my first inclination was to look at Lowes and Home Depot, thinking they might be better suited for what I needed to do. However, I also remembered my roots and before I made any purchases I checked with Smith Appliances. Well, that was the best decision I made. Not only did I pay substantially less for every appliances, they provided free delivery, took away the old appliance free of charge, they service the appliances they sell. I'm not talking $25-$50 cheaper either. I'm talking hundreds of dollars cheaper than Lowes and Home Depot for each appliance and the exact same appliance! And when the deliver, they don't give you a 4 hour window. They give you a specific time and call you when they are on the way! From my experience, I can't give Smith Appliances anything less than 5 stars. I will refer friends and family to then. read more

I purchased a refrigerator and dishwasher from Smith's appliance which totaled a $3000 purchase. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN!!! I have never been treated so poorly by the owner of a business. I originally went into store inquiring about a new refrigerator. I had told the sales lady about a problem with our dishwasher in casual conversation. I specifically said we had a plumbing problem. I was quickly sold a dishwasher too and reassured they can handle the problem. I would not need to hire a plumber. Installation day came and the installers (which were very nice and professional) told me, I had a problem. They do not handle such issues generally and they are not plumbers. The installer was very nice, and we came up with a solution, so the dishwasher could get installed. I will later have to hire a plumber to fix the overall problem (which i am fine with). This was satisfactory to me, and he went back to store to get parts. This is where everything fell apart. I received a phone call from the owner, yelling at me. She was extremely rude and basically called me a liar. She told me no one on her staff said that and they do not do plumbing. She said she asked her staff and they said no one promised that. Not alone is the owner rude but the sales staff lie. Now, I understand things can happen; however, she never called with intend to fix the problem. She just called and yelled at me. I offered to cancel the dishwasher if it was going to be a problem and her response was "we'll see how it all ends". In the end, the installer was able to install the appliance; but I have never felt so humiliated in my life. read more

We are here for the summer and our Refrigerator died. Had a very hard Time finding a Black one to match our other appliances. Found Smith on the internet and to our surprise they had several Black ones. We were excited and ready to buy and they were so busy, said it would be next week. So we said ok we needed it as soon as possible. Then only to find out we were 2 miles over there area they deliver. No way would they give into driving to our house. Said they wouldn't service it even if we picked it up. There was so much tension in the store you could feel it. We felt sorry for the young lady who waited on us. The Smith's have been in business for 55 years. We like to do business with Mom and Pops stores especially because they are usually more friendly and appreciate you purchasing from them. Not here they should sell out and enjoy retirement! I bet you get them away from the store and they are nice but just tired and wore out. We did what we didn't want to do called a box store they had exactly what we wanted and will deliver it tomorrow. So helpful and nice to work with Dana there. Like a breath of fresh air read more

I purchased a washer and dryer from Smith Appliances, and the house I purchased a few years ago had all of the kitchen appliances from Smith also. But when I called for service you would think I was trying to get the combination to their bank accounts. The women are consistent--rude. The delivery and repair guys, on the other hand, were nice ... and helpful. When I called about needing a new seal on my dishwasher, the woman told me it was most likely my own fault, accusing me of ruining the dishwasher by using powdered detergent; I've never used powdered detergent. I was told to run it through two cycles while empty on the hottest setting with no detergent in it, so it would clean out the powdered detergent. Then I could call them back and see if she would send out a repairman, and I would need to provide a sales receipt to show it was actually purchased from them, as she couldn't take my word for it, and no, she would not look through their records--it was my responsibility. When I finally asked if I could just buy the rubber door seal, she got me to one of the repair guys. He said they were slow and had no problem coming over (4 blocks away) to look at it. It was just a worn-out seal, and he didn't even charge me for the labor and showing me how to put it in. Funny, I have since needed a new over-the-counter microwave and two refrigerators, but I didn't go back to Smith Appliance. read more

Purchased a refrigerator from this business and it was a big mistake. The fridge is very noisy chattering sound and they cant repair it and wont replace it. Plus one of the people on the phone is rude and stupid, a very poor combination for a business that used to be good on service. Dont recommend- you can buy for less and get better service elsewhere. If i wanted a pack of squirrels in my kitchen 24/7 i'd move to the woods. read more

Last year we purchased a stacked washer dryer unit. This year we purchased a dishwasher, stove and garbage disposal. Kay was kind enough to loan us a bottom dish rack for our sad dishwasher to tide us over until the new dishwasher could be installed. The delivery and installation went smoothly. Thank you! NEVER do business with these people. I really wanted to support local business and purposely passed on better offers at the "big box" stores when I bought a spare refrigerator for my garage one year ago. They were really rude at the store when I bought the unit but, hey, I don't have to live with them. They sold me a used frig which they swore was in brand new condition. It was for my garage so I just needed something simple that worked.Now, literally, ONE YEAR after my purchase the compressor goes out. The cost to repair is the cost of a new frig so I ask them what they will do to help me out. I didn't want the world. Maybe free labor on a new compressor or a couple hundred off a new frig. I was willing to work with them and thought they would want a happy customer. Their answer...we'll do nothing. Not only that, Mr Smith, who came out to diagnose the problem told me "They have enough customers" and that they didn't care that I wasn't going to be among them. Fine. I'll buy from Sears and hope Smith Appliance goes out of business. That kind of service after the sale no one needs. read more

I have purchased all my major kitchen and laundry appliances from Smith since I moved into an older home a few years ago. Pros: The primary reason I buy there is because they install and service what they sell. I needed a warranty repair in a dishwasher and it was accomplished smoothly. When I had a small issue with the range two days after purchase, they sent a repairman out on the same day I called, a Saturday even. If there is a specific model or feature you need in a brand they carry they will special order for you. (I do a lot of online research myself before entering the store.) Prices are reasonable. I have dealt with two of the sales people -- both are very knowledgeable about each product and they have not pushed me toward more expensive models. Cons: As others have said, some of the staff are rude or abrasive. The showroom is cluttered/messy. The condition of the building doesn't inspire confidence. They don't carry the highly rated European brands. Bottom line--decide on what is most important to you as you make your decision where to shop. Mine is being able to talk to and see an actual local person with expertise in appliances while shopping, arranging delivery, and for post-purchase service. read more
