My wife and I found ourselves stuck in the mud 62 miles north of Gerlach NV, middle of nowhere. Several tow/rescue operations turned down the job until we found Smith and Tobey. He picked me up the next morning after spending the night in the cab and being rescued by the Humboldt county sheriff (kudos to them too!) and we drove the 62 miles in hail and rain and it took over 4 hours to reach my truck. Carman washed no time, positioned his truck where it needed to be, about 250 feet away, navigating some difficult terrain and mud. Working fast with 4 steel traction mats and long cable, he was successful in freeing me from the mud hole and continued to reposition his truck a number of times to get me on solid ground. A group of us went down to pyramid lake for labor day, but the car we took got stuck in the sand while we were there. We called Triple A roadside assistance, who told us it would be an hour before anyone could get there. An hour and a half later we call back, and are told no one is coming out due to us being out of their area. We call another company and are told the same thing. Three hours after we initially get stuck, we called Smith and Toby towing. They were able to get someone out there within 15 minutes, and we were out not even 5 minutes after that. Their price for such was also very reasonable, and Carmen and his brother were both super polite and professional. Hopefully we will not have this issue again, but if we do we will be calling Smith and Toby first. read more

So, the truck gets stuck in the sand and AAA won't come get us because it's not on a "maintained road". We hunt around and find out about Smith and Tobey from another tow company. We're told they're crazy enough to tow anyone out of anything so we figure these are our guys! He arrived promptly with a smile and an awesome dog. We quickly found where we'd had to leave the truck the night before and it took less than 5 minutes to get us out. As soon as the truck started to roll out of its resting place the dogs tail started to wag - he knows where his treat money comes from and when his daddy does a good job! Fair price and great service. While I hope to not need to be retrieved from sand again, if we have that problem, this will be the first place we go. read more

On July 30 around 9 AM I got a blowout in my rear passenger tire. I am handicapped so I could not get the lug nuts loose on the wheel. I was waiting for my wife to come with the other car (which has better tools). Five minutes after I called my wife and about 20 minutes just standing behind my car. These fine folks pulled over to see if I need any help. He got the wheel of and the spare on in a few minutes. I had to fore the tip on him as he did not want any money. Got stuck in very soft sand going around another vehicle that was also stuck. Two large trucks failed to get me out causing me to be even more buried in the sand trap. Called Smith Toby Towing and they responded in less than 45 minutes. Took less than 20 minutes to get my Dodge Diesel back on the road. Failed to mention that it was near midnight when this occurred. Driver was very polite, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain what he was doing and the equipment he used to get me out. I would have paid twice what they charged me. Total 5 by 5 rating. I went car camping in the snow off the gravel/dirt road. Should have left when the ground was frozen... bcuz I tried doing a 3 point turn, lost momentum & got Honda Accord stuck in mud. Had aaa emergency service but they wouldn't go on dirt. Called 2 other tow companies & they said they wouldn't go off pavement. Finally got a reccamendation to call Smith & Tobey as he isn't scared to go off-road. He came in his v10 ford workhorse of a pickup with the dog riding shotgun. Awesome service provided by Smith and Tobey. I was stuck in some sand by the shore of Pyramid Lake NV. I called my AAA and was informed they did not provide off road vehicle recovery, that was a nightmare! The gentleman arrived in 20 minutes, assessed the situation, and in under 5min. I was pulled out the sand and back on the compact dirt road. And the price was extremely reasonable! I payed a fraction of what i was anticipating! This guy is awesome! read more

Carmen saved my ford e-350 van and a jeep from a sandy road down by pyramid lake. I thought we were absolutely screwed after every towing company in the area told us they couldn't help us. A couple mentioned carmen so i called him. he was there in 40 minutes and we were back on the highway within an hour. he's honest, friendly and just an all around good guy. so grateful for his help! read more

I am a truck driver and I was in Fernley nv and I got stuck in some soft dirt after checking too make sure it was solid called around to the other tow companies these guys were the only ones available wonderful staff and the guy who came out I didn't catch his name came out and helped me out will 100% recommend them read more

Ran off the road and was stuck pretty good. I couldn't drive out until Tobey came and leveled me off and put sand ladders under my wheels. I then just drove right out. I can't say enough about their service and the price was quite reasonable. read more

We were stuck out on the Pyramid Lake over the weekend. Came out with their truck and equipment and got us out of the sand. They were very fast for even being far out in the Indian Reservation. I will call them if it ever happens again. read more
