I will never use this funeral home or recommend them to anyone, not even if they were donating…read moreservices. My brother passed away on January 12th and they handled the services. It was issues from the time I signed the documents for them to handle the services. I requested to meet them at the funeral home to see my brother once he was picked up from the county morgue and they declined but offered to send me a picture of him. Who does that? They sent me a photo of my brother laying in a body bag with blood all over his face and his chest stitched from the autopsy. Really? How insensitive! Fast forward to the viewing day which was before the funeral. I show up that morning to view the body so that I could approve the viewing. When I saw my brother, he looked like someone that I had never met. I had to request a makeup artist get there immediately to make him look like himself. The service was beautiful and then we had him cremated. I called for weeks to check on his cremains and no one called me back. Eventually I found the cell number of one of the employees named George who was heaven sent. I left him a message on Feb10th, and he called me right back. He told me that my brothers cremains were ready for pick up. It had been three weeks. I picked up a portion of his cremains and shared that my brother's wife would come by for the other portion. She has called many times and as of today, they have not given her anything. Fast forward to March, keep in mind my brother passed January 12th. I had been calling Corbin Colonial for weeks now to request the two death certificates that I paid for and again, I can't get anyone to return my calls. I called the medical examiner office on April 1st. Now if you are familiar with Chicago, they are dealing with triple the numbers of deaths then any funeral home in Chicago. The next day, I received a call back from the medical examiner office explaining that the death details were sent to Corbin Colonial on April 2nd and I would have to reach out directly to them for the death certificate. It is now April 16th and I have called at least 12 times and still no return call. No death certificates and no cremains for his wife. Channel 7 News and my Lawyer will be my next calls.

They had the WRONG BODY IN THE CASKET!!! I had my fathers visitation here August 13, 2019 (on my…read morebirthday), one of the male employees escorted me to a room where a dead body was at and said "Here is your father", I stated "This is NOT my father! I gave you a blue suit to dress him in and my father has a beard". The guy in the casket was clean shaved with a brown suit on. The employee looked shocked and told me he needed to talk to another staff member. As I waited in disbelief, I overheard the male employee whisper to another employee and they started LAUGHING!!!! I was too in shock to respond and at that point I was wondering if they picked up the RIGHT BODY from the Hospital!! To make matters WORST the casket that they had the wrong body in was the casket that they buried my father in!! They brought out the RIGHT casket but WRONG BODY!!! They called me in the office and said I was correct...that that WASN'T my father in the casket but that my father was dressed and Ready in the back and will be out soon. So the visitation started 30 minutes late because they had the wrong body in the casket!! People were waiting!! They did not offer me a discount on the casket which I think was UNACCEPTABLE!!! My father was BURIED in a casket that minutes earlier had another dead body in it!! A NEW casket, Not a Rental!! Then they LAUGHED when they realized they made a mistake!! Heartless and disgusting!! I am traumatized and I hope WHEN one of their loved ones DIE that a funeral home does this to them. AVOID AT ALL COST!!

To simply say they "handled the arrangements" would be a great injustice to the exceptional care and compassion we received. From the very first moment, Ms. Alvarez distinguished herself and her home from any other we have dealt with in the past. Where others felt transactional, she was deeply personal. She did not just see us as clients, but as a grieving family in need of guidance and support. Her patience, empathy, and genuine kindness were a steady comfort during the most difficult days of our lives. Ms. Alvarez took the time to listen--truly listen--to our stories, our wishes, and our worries. She helped us navigate every decision with grace, offering gentle suggestions while always honoring our desires. She removed the overwhelming burden of logistics and allowed us the space to simply be together and grieve. The personal touches and attention to detail made all the difference, creating a service that was a beautiful and authentic reflection of our loved one's life. What sets Alvarez Funeral Home apart is this heartfelt, human-centered approach. Ms. Alvarez and her entire staff provide more than a service; they provide a sanctuary of understanding and respect. They walked beside us, never ahead of us. To anyone facing the unimaginable, we cannot recommend Alvarez Funeral Home highly enough. Thank you, Ms. Alvarez, and to your wonderful staff, for your invaluable help and for treating our family with such dignity during our most difficult time. Your compassion made all the difference.

First, the space is modern, bright and elegant--not at all stuffy and dark like some funeral homes. With only one salon, the whole place is dedicated to one family. The ample parking turned out to be essential. But it was really the attentive, compassionate service from Michael and his team that made everything so easy. Because of them, our sadness was not compounded by stress or frustration. They helped us display photos, collect cards, greet visitors and just enjoy the company of our friends and family. At no turn did anyone decline our requests or try to upsell us on anything; honestly, I was able to forget that The Elms is a business at all. Within a week afterward, Michael gave us digital copies of the guest book (sorted alphabetically) and a digital photo of every card that came with a flower arrangement, making it easy for us to thank everyone who had expressed condolences. I don't wish for anyone to need the services of a funeral home, but when that time comes, I emphatically recommend The Elms.

It is very intimate, as they only have one viewing room, so there is no intermingling with other families, the place is all yours. So when my mother passed away, we decided to go to The Elms. Michael R. was our Director and his professionalism and knowledge left my family at ease that everything would go smoothly. He communicated to us everything that would happen and when, and walked us through the process. He was at our beck and call and helped us with decisions we didn't know we had to make, and I am forever grateful to him for this. Karen C. was present on the day of the funeral, in addition to Michael and besides her caring nature, she provided services that made us extremely happy (mom's make up). I cannot say enough good things about The Elms and will continue to give them our family business. During the most difficult time of my life, The Elms staff was by our side and again, we are beyond grateful that they made this experience one mom would have been proud of. I don't care to "shop around a dozen funeral homes" in the City and Suburbs, or how many funeral homes someone owns. I know where my family and I will continue to patronize.
