The Au Jus was delicious but the bread was pale dough. It was underbaked and squishy.

Guy was at the counter when we walked in, but did not greet us, then walked away. We were the only ones in the restaurant and ready to walk out when he finally came back out and took our order. I ordered a vege sandwich (there are 2 options and that's a lot more than any place in Grand Forks!) and the ingredients were fresh and I loved them in the combo for the Hippie Chick sandwich. There was a choice for wheat bread. All were fresh. It cost $10.66 including tax then I tipped $1. We had the Smiling Moose cater lunch for the Knife River board of directors meeting at Strata Park in August, and they did a great job! The delivery driver was prompt and called when they got to the site, they included everything - including tongs for salad and fruit! - and the food got rave reviews. Wow. I have no idea what I just ate but the first half tasted so good I didn't stop till I accidentally bit my own fingers. The bread and sandwich combo with the Original Mo cannot be beat, textures, crunch, flavor, it's all there. Soft bread with a great crust, and made to order sandwich. They're doing it right. Not to mention the woman who took my order was unbelievably nice and explained what they do here as she could tell I was a newbie. Talk about making a guy feel welcome. Mmmm I love a new take on an Italian sandwich. A regular sandwich is about 6 inches, a whole is 12. I got the Pesto Peak Italiano on ciabatta. Without a doubt, THE WORST service I have received in a restaurant in my 55 years on this earth. I am very serious, this is not a place you want to be. The cashier who took my order, never looked up at me and never said a single word. Every fiber of her being screamed " I hate my job, I hate this place and I REALLY hate customers who require me to do my job". I complained about the truly pathetic service. I didn't know at the moment, but the person I gave the complaint to was THE MOTHER of the cashier. So, that did a lot of good. There were also two small children, under the age of 5, and they belonged to this woman as well. What restaurant allows employees to bring small children with them, especially a restaurant. While we were eating, the cashier had a cigarette dangling from her mouth and literally stalked me through the glass. I felt uneasy, scared and threatened. She walked very, very slowly, very close to the window and kept her eyes on me so steadily and so calculated it was bizarre. I immediately went to the manager. I told her I felt threatened. She didn't seem to buy that. This is when I found out the other worker was her mother. The manager couldn't get to me because of lunch. I asked for the OWNER to contact me. The Smiling Moose Rocky Mountain Deli isn't just another submarine sandwich place. We tried the Buckin' Bronco Beef sandwiches and they were excellent! The bread has a crispy outside on the crust with a moist inside. The meat, the veggies, everything was yummy! They have a very good selection of both hot and cold sandwiches and wraps. Fresh baked cookies, soups, salads... there's something for everyone (even vegetarians!). It was Free Cookie Wednesday so I had an Oatmeal Raisin... YUM! We will be back for more! read more

Great food and amazing service. I had their Breakfast mo-rito this past weekend and the young woman who made it was incredibly friendly, helpful, and fast! She managed to take orders of the everyone in the restaurant, take delivery service orders from iPads, make everyone's food, and bring it to everyone all alone! My sandwich was a whole lot of meh. There was nothing bad about it but nothing good about it either. I ordered the Pastrami Mo. There was very little pastrami. The beef was not seasoned. Everything definitely tasted fresh but nothing was that good that I'd have to have it again.
