To Dr. Steven and Mrs. Uchida and staff of Smiles Forever, I am going to be 84 years old in 2 months. I do regret that I did not take better care of my teeth because I was too in a rush or too lazy to take time using dental floss or water pick. As time went on I lost many of my original teeth due to advanced gum disease, tooth decay, gum recession or cracked molar because of a root canal that had been done many years ago. At age 79 I had only 17 of my original teeth. My dentist said I had to have major restoration but he couldn't help me and did not recommend any dentist. I wanted to know if dental implants would help so I went on YouTube and came across this program called Innovations in Health. It was where Dr. Steven Uchida of Smiles Forever was being interviewed and promoting mini implants although he can do regular implants. I was very impressed with his interview. He came across as friendly, knowledgeable, likeable and trustworthy. I learned that if you are elderly and have jaw bones that had shrunk mini implants would be an excellent alternative to regular size implants because of its smaller diameter size. At the end of his interview Dr. Uchida stated doing mini implants vs. regular implants will be less invasive, less healing time, less pain, less visits and most important, less expensive. Don't be afraid of doing mini implants because of your age. I was 80 years old when I did a full mouth restoration on my upper and lower jaws and ended with two new sets of dentures. This is the closest to what my original teeth were. I consider this mini implant restoration as the best of the best. Today I am not embarrassed to smile and not afraid to converse in groups. On your first visit to Smiles Forever, Mrs. Uchida or her staff will greet you with a friendly smile, make you feel comfortable and treat you with respect like royalty. Truly at my age one of my few enjoyments in life is to able to eat my favorite foods, both at home and at restaurants. I am so grateful that I found Dr. Uchida because he enabled me to do this. Warning everyone. I can't believe this. Worst dentist ever. He did an implant 3 years ago. It came loose and now I had it remove. My current dentist said he never seen a cone shaped implant before. What a joke. The crown also had a gap and wasn't connected to my gums. Implants are suppose to last more than 3 years. I'm glad I found another dentist soon after a few appointments. I wore upper removable partial dentures for around 10 years. The first set was metal that grated on my teeth so I got plastic ones made that didn't grate on my teeth but was very intrusive and uncomfortable. I would put on the partial to eat and take them out as soon as I could. It also impeded my speech because the partial blocked the roof of my mouth. I did not qualify for traditional implants because of lack of bone. After suffering with my partial for 10 years, I saw the Smiles Forever ad, I called them for a consultation. After the consultation I decided to go for it. I don't know anyone else who have mini implants so I could not ask for an opinion. I began my journey on May 2023 by extracting all my remaining upper teeth. Four months later September 2023: after x-rays doctor Uchida recommended waiting another two months before continuing with the mini implant procedure. Two months later November 2023; 10 implants installed and my old dentures were used temporarily while waiting for the permanent teeth to be made. I was told the permanent teeth would take 2 to 3 weeks. It actually took almost 3 months. The delay would not have bother me if they communicated the delays to me. I had to call them several times for updates. January 2024 my permanent upper dentures were installed. The final process is to get the bite adjusted which takes several visits to make small adjustments at each visit. The permanent denture is a great improvement from my previous partial dentures (as far as speaking and basic comfort). My 3 star rating is strictly based on my opinion of the mini implants and permanent dentures, not so much on the business itself. The business side of Smiles Forever is Good. My advice would be to try traditional removable dentures first. In my case removable dentures did not work. The mini-implant dentures are OK but they do not feel like real teeth. I had to relearn how to eat (chew) without biting my tongue and lip and they feel foreign to my tongue. Maybe as time goes by it will feel realer. read more

I had a constant struggle with crooked bottom teeth, which lowered my self esteem and made flossing a hassle. I've consulted Dr. Uchida about this problem since I first started seeing him in around 2012, and finally in 2018 he started doing braces! Fast braces, to be specific. Fast braces work a lot faster than traditional braces, which is great for people that want straight teeth but don't want to have metal in their mouth for over a year. I was basically in the office once a week, and my braces were off before I even realized it. Did I mention the staff here are all friendly? They make what would normally be an intimidating dentist visit pleasing and warm. They really make you feel like part of their family! You know the results are good when you send an after picture to your best friend and she thinks it's photoshopped.. Dr. Uchida should be put in jail. He took my money, did a bad job, and then blamed it all on me. He did the All-on-4 procedure for my upper and lower jaw. Charged me $54,000.00 which I paid in two payments upfront. Told me everything would be fine and that he's an "Expert." He's no expert and not even an implant specialist. He is a General Dentist and a crook! After the procedure was done my bite was off. I went back for adjustments but every time I went in he would blame me for his junk work. The teeth were so off that it cause one of the implants to fail and again he blamed it on me. He's the one that's supposed to make my bite good, that's why I did the upper and lower together. He even made me do Botox to try and solve his problem. Less than a year later, my new teeth on the upper and lower broke. I think the implants and materials he used are cheap and couldn't hold up and that he never fixed the bite properly. He again blamed it on me and refused to even fix it. Since I had no money left, I was of no use to him. He's only concerned with money and driving around in his fancy car. The only reason I didn't sue him is because I don't want to continue this nightmare. I'm pau. Yea he might get away with this on me but this is Hawaii and word will get out that he is a crook and a no good dentist. He may be an OK dentist but he is a horrible, horrible human being. Not only is he totally condescending and talks down to you, but appears to be suffering from the Dr. Jykell/Mr. Hyde syndrome and his mood swing is extreme. I feel sorry for the staff that works for him. Be kind to your patient, don't bully or belittle them. Don't pass judgement. That is not your place. Had dental implants done by Steven Uchida last year about a few weeks latter i went back for a check up. Told Steven food was getting stuck under the implants. Asked how do i get it out he said use waterpik. I went back gain told him its not coming out. while waiting to talk to him. His assistant and him was making the chair i was in going up and down and laughing all of the staff was laughing about 20 minutes latter they stopped he came i told him i dont want to be a bitch but why were you guys doing that to me. He said you can't be a bitch cause his mother is the badass bitch. They all laughed. i left so upset didn't know why i was treated that way i paid 10K for 4 tooth implants. today I went for my year checkup. as i was waiting to be check Steven came hit the button on the chair i went down so hard i yelled. Ever since I realized how important my teeth and gums are to overall health I started to see Dr. Uchida and only him! I am not young anymore so being healthy is important to me. Dr Uchida and his staff is very professional and welcoming, and shop is very clean. I always look forward to dentist appointments. I've always been mostly immune to novocaine, it wears off fast and my teeth never get numb... so I can feel everything when getting a cavity addressed. Smiles Forever provided me with an option that no other dental office could on this island. Sedation dentistry allows me to have an extensive repair completed without feeling any pain or remembering much of the procedure. The staff is amazing, friendly, and attentive. Do not go to this dentist he is a nightmare! He seems to have a personality disorder and will yell at his patients and staff. The worst part is he hurts his patients when performing work. How is it that I am having work done on the left side of my mouth and when I awake from the procedure my ENTIRE mouth is cut up and my tongue had lacerations on the right side. He prescribes sedation pills so you are sleeping during the procedure and completely unaware of what is happening. It was only when the anesthesia wore off after I left his office did I realize how bad I was hurt. I feel like he did it on purpose because he was not happy that I returned to his office to fix the bad work he did previously. He will overcharge you and recommend having work done that is not even necessary just to make more money. I know this because I am now at another dentist who took Xrays of my mouth and said that I don't need to have the additional work done that Dr. Uchida said I did. Not to mention, he uses cheap materials so your teeth, implants, bonding etc.. will keep breaking and you will have to keep going back in, and he will charge everytime even though it's his fault. I moved further away from their Kailua location & decided to switch dentists & Smiles Forever treated me SO UNFAIRLY about it charging me $100 to release my records to the new dentist!! No loyalty or care whatsoever for a longtime patient who has given them NUMEROUS referrals. Beware when you sign up for this dentist they will hold you hostage via $100 if you move and need a dentist closer to where you live. So disappointed with this crooked business! My wife is very pleased with the service outcome of Dr. Uchida and his staff at Smiles Forever. Initially, her lower partial denture had recurring problems and decided to have mini impants to resolve this irritating problem. Dr. Uchida was very nice and explained his procedure thoroughly. However, my wife did experience difficulty adjusting to the implants. I could go through the details but most importantly my wife has adjusted as Dr. Uchida previously stated and now very satisfied. Being honest, maybe the only draw back I can say is mini implants are questionable for the elderly. Meaning that patience and good hand dexterity is needed. My last dentist quoted me for procedures that seemed unnecessary, so I went to Smiles Forever for a second opinion, cleaning and full set of x rays. Jessy, my Dental Hygienist was amazing! She let me know what each tool did so I knew what to expect, and she said I could raise my hand if anything hurt (but nothing did). She explained why I have gum recession and gave me a new understanding of my teeth. As for the quote my previous dentist gave me, Smiles Forever assured me I have no cavities or work to get done! King street location. Dr. Steven S. Uchida was very unprofessional and rude. The price quoted was extremely expensive and no payment plan was offered. He was very sarcastic and seemingly enjoyed his own sarcastic jokes when I inquired about the safety/X rays. The office was dirty and unorganized and boxes all over the place. I noticed various patients stumbling around on sedatives during their procedures, and unsure about the safety of those and myself. The front staff appeared nice and helpful with parking, but other assistants to Dr. Steven struggled to communicate the procedure with limited understanding and control of the English language. I would certainly not recommend this place and especially not this "Dr." Not sure if he received his credentials here in America and certainly needs to learn how to be culturally sensitive with his patients and staff. read more

Steven Uchida and Smiles Forever have two locations; Kailua and King St. near Keeamoku St. for your convenience! Smiles Forever in my opinion is the best dental office I have experienced. Dr. Uchida and his staff are very personable and offer superior service. My first experience with Dr. Uchida was having one of my fillings replaced, I didnt feel a thing and I was out in less than a 1/2 hour. The assistants there are very helpful and go above and beyond what is expected, I even received a follow up call inquiring about any complications which I didnt have. My second experience was a general cleaning which went very smoothly, no discomfort at all during the entire process. I have been to many different Dental offices and Smiles Forever uses the latest state of the art equipment and the staff ensures your experience is a great one. What can I possibly say about Dr. Uchida and his squad of gorgeous and professional staff at Smiles Forever, LLC? I can't say that they're friendly and hospitable upon meeting and greeting you or your family for the entirety of your business with them, I can't say that they're quick with solutions as to what they think is the best for you and any dental issues you might be working through, I can't say they're prompt and very understanding about rescheduling or making appointments even if it's about a consultation, I can't say any of these things because it just wouldn't do them justice to merely talk about them on a simple yelp review. You just have to go in and find out how fantastic they are for yourself. Not to mention the results. They deliver fantastic results that would take other dental places years to complete. I went in for braces expecting around 2 years of waiting around to be straightened with a really high bill, but they came to me with a reasonable and just price not to mention having to wear braces for only 4 months!!! Like many people, going to the dentist has not been my favorite thing to do. A few weeks ago a crown in the front of my mouth chipped and became loose. I was afraid that it would fall out, and given my occupation, that would not have been a good thing. Dr. Uchida was able to see me almost immediately. He replaced the old post, put in a temporary, and 2 weeks later replaced the permanent crown. The entire process was painless and very quick. His staff is extremely professional and personable. They call to remind me of my appointments and followed up after the temporary was put in to make sure I had no pain or complications. I would highly recommend Dr. Uchida and Smiles Forever. Both Kailua and King St locations are clean, comfortable and well equipped. I am glad I met them because I think I'll actually start going more often now! read more

I was visiting from California and during my stay in Kailua I experienced extreme pain on my tooth number 18 I was referred to Dr. Uchidas office for the problem. Little did I know what I will be experiencing at that office. In short words I went to hell and back. At my first visit he told me, that the tooth is fractured and it needs to be extracted, he than said I could do an implant right after the extraction. I went ahead and booked an appointment since the severity of the pain was unbearable. He said that he's booked and can't do the procedure till end of the following week. I asked him to please refer me to a different sergeant. Instead they squeezed me into his schedule. I believe he had almost no time for this procedure he rushed in and did my surgery in a fast and disoriented matter. After the procedure I was in more pain than I can explain I was taking heavy pain killers every 4 hours and I felt an additional pain in one of my bottom front teeth and a cut under my tongue with 3 Stiches, which probably happened during the extraction he did. The entire weekend I tried to find him the office was closed. He wouldn't return any of my emails or messages. I paged him and no call back until Monday morning his office called me back. They said there's nothing they can do for me, and Dr. Uchida thinks I should go to an emergency or seek medical help. At this point I knew I was in tremendous trouble. My husband and I asked for my dental records so we can seek another dentist to help us. They wouldn't release any dental notes. I found an amazing dental implant specialist through my brother in law in Honolulu and was seeing by him immediately He put me on antibiotic and different pain killer He opened up the infected wound removed a 2mm bone that was left behind under my gum and removed the implant. It took 10 full syringes to numb the infected area I have not been in so much pain in my life. The same evening Dr. That I would rather not use his name in this review, called to see how I was (very professional) I felt better everyday. I try not to leave bad reviews for businesses cause I understand that people have bad days or it's just a glitch. I couldn't stop writing this to safe many good people getting in trouble like I did. This was not a glitch nor a bad day. It was a malpractice and he should honesty loose his license for the way he treats his patients It was the worse experience of my entire life. :( Not only did he refuse to see me he even refused to talk to my dentist that helped me correct his mess!! Please be advised that at that office you will probably not have a good outcome. They only want your money and once they get paid there would be no more communication :/ DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT with that office. Per dr. Uchida and his wife Sara they said that they were not going to except me back as a patient because I missed 1 appt due to being in the hospital. They charged me about $40,000.00 for just a full mouth reconstruction and it wasn't even a good job. The bottom implant keeps on getting infected and is made out of cheap materials. They are a total rip off. I suggest everyone who needs a implant and full mouth reconstruction to find a better dentist then this. Rip off and there is no considerations. read more

IF THE OPTION OF ZERO STARS WAS GIVEN,IT BE A BIG FAT ZERO!!!On the phone I was given a rough estimate of 2000$ for up and lower dentures, included in that was temp. Set till permanent set came in. I also stated that I'll take the regular denture set verses the implants. I went in and did my face exam, and was told complete opposite and that it cause 13000k to 50k if I went with all implants,I explained what I was told on the phone ,and asked the Dr that I have just normal up and down implants ,that's the plan I was given along with price on phone. His entire demeanor changed and disregarding me told the staff to do the price quote hoe she wants it. I was presented with a 13-24 k quote. Each tooth extraction 350$. I asked the Dr if I can have another Dr who takes my plan pull and I come straight HERE.NO SADLY I WAS TILD.
