Asked how I have been since last time she saw me my beloved dog passed away, noted that she really liked my hair, she remembered it was shorter last time I saw her... Like really? Why is she so awesome?!?!?! I heard from my mom her replacement isn't as awesome which is sad but she was new so hopefully she's better now. Either way, besides reception, the techs are always amazing as well. Everyone there is just so personable and fun and make me feel 100% at ease when I'm there. The office staff are very accommodating when booking appointments, and effectively manage to limit the waiting time. I first visited Dr. McKay based on the glowing endorsement of a highly respected oral surgeon, who has been Dr. McKay's patient for many years. I wanted to see a trustworthy and skilled dentist who could provide a second opinion on my (now previous) dentist's advice to get crowns on my upper teeth to repair the damage done through excessive wear and fix a faulty bite. This is a prohibitively expensive and aggressive procedure, which involves the filing, reduction and reshaping of existing teeth in order to make room for the porcelain caps. Thank goodness I received a second opinion! Not only did Dr. McKay clearly explain why I didn't need crowns, but he recommended a far cheaper and more conservative treatment--bonding--which would repair, strengthen, protect and improve the appearance of my teeth without reducing their size or integrity. Last week, Dr. McKay, with the help of his excellent assistant, spent over two hours painstakingly performing the bonding procedure on my upper and lower teeth. Before starting, he clearly summarized what was going to happen, and then just before each step in the process, either he or his assistant would explain precisely what would happen next. I appreciated the high level of communication throughout the procedure, which Dr. McKay performed to perfection. Not only did Dr. McKay do a superb job with my teeth, but he saved me well over $10,000! It takes me 60-90 minutes to drive to his office in North Vancouver, but I would never consider going anywhere else for my dental work.

He did a very in-depth physical examination with a ton of documented notes (mostly high tech Ortho speak). Then a series of photographs of the teeth and then digital x-ray series. The office decor is very cool with a upmarket studio feel. The staff are very customer service centered, polite and professional. They even have great WIFI and tablets to while away the time if needed. The explanation for the braces, to correct my daughter's teeth, was thorough and not full of technical jargon. The kicker was when we got to the finances. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost for a 20 month program. I would highly recommend that you call and make an appointment soon if you have need of a great Orthodontist who is detail oriented.

Dr. Mah was close by and so was First Impression. Didn't end up booking with Dr. Mah as they charge for a consult whereas First Impression is free! Yah.... I'm cheap (or should I say wise with my money)! But really, waive the $75, spend an hour of your time and show people your work and you are highly likely to land a $6-8k client! Booked an appointment with First Impression. When you walk into the office you are impressed at how new, clean and bright it is! The office is also lined by gorgeous photos...all taken by Dr. Luu himself! The kids are impressed there is an electronics area with various electronic devices. There is free wifi, a station for coffee and hot chocolate. I even laughed as they recently added a card stand with lots of different handmade cards (all really nice and professional looking may I add) all made by Dr. Luu's wife. It's a one stop shop! Anyhow, back to the review.... The staff are all super nice, friendly, knowledgable and service oriented. I'd have to rate it in the top 5% for service I have ever encountered, it's just that good! Our paediatric dentist's practice is partnered with an orthodontic arm so she doesn't necessarily deal with a lot of outside orthodontists. But she has mentioned to me that she is really impressed by Dr. Luu as he has sent her a few detailed letters (copy was sent to me too) telling her that it would be a good idea to bring my daughter in for a cleaning because her oral hygiene was not up to standards. The first times was maybe 4-5 months into the treatment and another time was a few months after that. After the second letter I showed my daughter the letter and told her she needed to step it up!!!! Glad to report she finally got that she needed to do a better job! I love that they switched over to an electronic appointment reminder so I get an email a week before my daughter's appointment. You confirm on the email that you can make the appointment. if you can't you just email them or call them to change. It's very efficient! It's easy to get/change an appointment since they are open wed-sat for the most part (sometimes the days change as he has an office in Whitehorse that he visits a few times a month). If I have to add a con to my review because not everything can be 100% perfect. I have had my daughter tell me she needed more elastics or a wire was bugging her AFTER the office closes on Sat, so you do have to wait until Wed which can be inconvenient, but nothing to move it below a 5 star review as hey, medical professionals need some family time too! Oh and btw, I did book one other consult with a highly rated place in Vancouver just to get a second quote. Walked in and it was an old drabby office. The orthodontist and staff weren't nearly as friendly/personable and their quote was over $1000 more than First Impression. So of course I walked out and ended up booking with First Impression.... and I'm glad I did! Anytime anyone is looking for an orthodontist in Burnaby, of course I have to refer Dr. Luu and his awesome staff! A plan was presented to us at the start of treatment which outlined everything with details about cost, timeline, and expectations (both ours and theirs). Waiting room is comfortable and they provide free coffee and reading materials while you wait for the patient.
