A close and trusted friend recommended their dentist of 15 years - Dr Newitt - earlier this year when I didn't trust my other family dentist in Kitsilano anymore. Set above Chapters, this little dentist has a middle-of-the-road kinda look and feel, but it's Dr Newitt's professionalism, focus and no-nonsense approach that gets 5-stars. He doesn't chitter chatter whilst doing his work (which means he's focusing our your teeth! read: no errors!). He has his space observatory style magnification system, laser system and goodness knows whatever appropriately named dentistwizardry. I asked for more pain relief (I get nervous) and he obliged. He's a gentleman. My husband and I have been many times now for filling replacements, crown fitting/replacement, hygienist, mouth guard consultation - and each time I was delighted with the service. Dr Newitt will refer you to the best people in their field for larger more specialist jobs (braces, retainers, bone grafts). Why delighted? Whenever I had fillings elsewhere, there would be errors - they'd mess up and would have to keep going back (read: pay more). So far, Dr Newitt focuses on the job, and gets it done perfectly - first time. And that's the most important thing to me. And I hope to have a very long dental relationship with his practice, despite the 40 minute drive from Burnaby each time :)

I had a pretty grim outlook on vancouver's dentistry practices before visiting Dr. Newitt's office. Tammy is the office's administrative superwoman and she is incredible. Her great jokes and friendly demeanor instantly put me at ease. Dr. Newitt himself is funny, professional and also has a great sense of humour and is interesting to talk to. Ian takes the time to listen to his patient's concerns, and nothing is overlooked. Ian is very meticulous in his examinations, but considerate of his patients at the same time. Connie, at reception, is nothing short of amazing; if you had issues prior to seeing Dr. McDonald, she will usually call the next day to ensure you're comfortable, and not experiencing any pain/issues. I can honestly say that this is the best experience I've had at a dental practice, and I hope they will be around for a long time to come!

Who fills ONE cavity on a cracked tooth with TWO cavities in it [which should have been immediately extracted, as I requested], then does a PARTIAL "root canal" and doesn't inform you that it's incomplete, allowing you to discover - upon seeing a reputable dentist - that there's a needle or a file left behind in the tooth in which the partial root canal was done? Who notes that you have a mouth infection but doesn't prescribe antibiotics, allowing you to suffer over an entire weekend with swelling and extreme pain? Who ignores your questions as to the inappropriate/inadequate work he did on your mouth? Dr. Goswami does. That's the START of my review. Much could be added. His office staff seem inept, incapable of getting appointment times and cancellations correct. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. GO TO A REAL DENTIST WHO WILL DO REAL DENTAL WORK FOR YOU.

I never once felt pressured into doing anything I felt uncomfortable with, and I felt like Dr. Okamura took time to explain all of my options. Additionally, I have taken my (fairly reluctant) preschooler to see Dr. Okamura, and he was so patient and caring with her. He never rushed her and allowed her to feel comfortable with him before he proceeded. I heartily recommend this practice.

Shortly thereafter he moved to his current W. Broadway location and I followed him there even though it's not very convenient for me but a good dentist is worth the trip. He's always been personable, friendly and knowledgeable. He keeps up on what's current in the dental industry. His office seems to run pretty much like clock work and it is rare to be kept waiting more than 5 minutes past the appointment time. The front office staff is the best - friendly and nice every single time I've visited the office. One staff in particular, Antonella, has been with him for eons and that says a lot about how Dr. Okamura must be as an employer. His dental assistant has also been with him for years too, but the hygienists always seem to come and go. Years ago when extensive work was required with not much dental covererage, Dr. Okamura even accepted postdated cheques. I've never forgotten that and think it shows the epitome of his character. If you're looking for a great friendly Dentist then Dr. Wayne Okamura fits the bill to a tee.
