After a failed implant, Dr Yu and his office couldn't have been less helpful. He lied about the device he made me and his office lied about what would be involved in repairing the problem. After repeated lies and delays, I eventually went to Mexico and got the problem completely fixed for $1600 after Yu extracted thousands from me and my dental insurance. Office manager lied and lied about dealing with my insurance. I ended up filing a complaint with the Dental Board of Examiners. read more

My entire family has seen Dr. Yu. We found his office to be clean and modem with the latest gadgets and gizmos. Unfortunately we had several experiences that left us feeling like we were being shaken down. From a hard sell on Invisalign to saying 3 year old crowns needed to be replaced to wanting to charge us several hundred dollars for pulling my daughter's loose baby tooth which was bothering her (and fell out on its own with the help of a 10 cent carrot that same night). Don't take my word for it though. Check out the amount of money he receives on the OpenPaymentsData.CMS.gov website. As of this writing almost $32k in perks from a dental equipment distributor, almost $30k over the national average. Do your research and learn who is really lining your doctors' pockets. It has been a few years since I have been to the dentist due to covid. My old dentist retired and Dr Yu was recommended by my daughter's orthodontic. I have to say I have never been comfortable at the dentist office even for cleanings. my hygentist on my first visit was wonderful. I did need some other work done. I was super nevous to have a crown, but everything went great. They made my crown in the office so I did not have to stress about a return trip to replace a temporary. I can't say enough about how professional Dr. Yu and his assitant Michelle are. Hopefully, all the angst about going to the dentist are in my rearview mirror. read more

My first visit to a dentist was in the 1950s. Since then, I have experienced more than seventy years of dentistry in four countries. If I were to make a list of all the dentists I have visited, guess who would be right at the top. Dr. Nasrin Fard at Smilemore Dental. During the summer of 2022 I visited her office several times so that she could provide me with crowns. Lots of crowns. She answered all my questions, never made me wait for my appointments, and did excellent (artistic!) work. Her staff - from the front office to the dental chair - was always pleasant, cheerful, professional, and helpful. I couldn't ask for a better outcome. I now have one of the best smiles in Oro Valley. UPDATE: Happy to report Dr. Yu called me this evening, was very nice, and said they have resumed their mask requirements for reception staff and patients. He said he reacted too swiftly to the lifting of restrictions at the state level. (I told him Pima County still has a mask mandate...) He also seemed quite concerned about mine and another negative on-line reviews. NO Masks on Receptionists now. Protect yourself and others until our national emergency is over. New Variants and a fourth wave may start again and anyone working with others in close proximity or inside your mouth should know better than to pretend Covid-19 has just magically disappeared. Employees state they don't plan on being vaccinated and to their knowledge none of the hygienists are. I declined this appointment after seeing and hearing their policy. read more

I had a crown done in 2020 and changed dentists in December 2021. I was told the crown had slipped down and needed to be redone and the dentist who did it should do it for free. When I went back to Smilemore today, Dr Yu said he would have to do an X-ray first which he charged $80 for. He then told me that it would cost $1,670 to replace it. Needless to say I am not "smilingmore". I would not pay him to replace a bad crown job if he does not guarntee his work and definitely will not recommend Smilemore Dental. read more

Everything about Dr Yu and his office is excellent. I came to Dr Yu after having the same dentists, father and son, the first 51 years of my life and he quickly won my confidence. Unfortunately I had to move from Tucson and I am now on my third dentist, trying to find one anywhere near as good as Dr Yu. My 5 star rating is based on the cleaning I got and my interaction with the staff at SmileMore Dental. I always look forward to the smooth feeling I get behind my teeth after going to the dentist, but that has not always happened at other places. Brenda was my hygienist and did a great job in making that happen. I look forward to seeing her again. Michelle took my initial history, is knowledgeable, and a very pleasant person. I also had a night guard made and it fit perfectly. Both Isabelle and Suzanne are a pleasure to speak to on the phone and at the office. I could not have felt more welcome. I did not have much interaction with Dr Yu and fortunately did not need to. However he is a friendly guy and from my experience has done a great job in the staff he has hired to help him! I am a new patient of Dr. Yu's this year and have now been to the office about 3-4 times for cleanings and some treatment. The front office staff are always smiling and engaging. Karla is my Hygienist and she is so kind to talk with and does a great job. During treatment I have had both Lindsay and Michelle for Assistants and they both make the experience as pleasurable as I could ask for. Dr. Yu has great chair-side manner and makes patients feel at ease as he does the work. I am extremely pleased with the results of my treatments! Nobody likes going to the dentist but this team makes it as relaxing as anyone could ask for, and they all do a great job! read more

Front office staff is very friendly. Dr. Yu is nice enough but in my experience seemed in a hurry to be somewhere else. The first time I noticed this is when I had two small cavities filled. He seemed rushed and I noticed him at his vehicle in the parking lot before I even got outside the office. It was the end of the day, but still. The second time is when the office called him in (from home or something) to look at one of my molars that was causing me pain. I thought it was weird that he wasn't in the office at all that day since he's the only dentist. But I'm no expert on how dental offices are run, so who knows, it just seemed odd. My hygienist Karla seemed to think my cleaning frequencies should vary based on how she deemed my teeth and gums were doing. I don't care if my mouth looks like a meth addict's, if my insurance only covers one cleaning every six months, that's the frequency we're going with. This is the only place that has ever recommended something like that which I didn't like. I also felt like I couldn't do things in a manner that was convenient or advantageous to me without receiving pushback. For example, I need a crown and figured I would schedule it early next year so I could use my Flexible Spending Account for the $440 it would cost. The tooth isn't really bothersome so I felt it could wait. But the scheduler had to run and check to see if that would be okay. She then came back and stressed that it's something that should be addressed sooner than later. I asked if they had any kind of payment plan options (like Care Credit ) to which she replied "no, not for $440." I guess I'm just supposed to pull it out of my butt. Overall the staff here was friendly and seemed competent, and may be great for you, it just wasn't a good fit for me. read more

SmileMore Dental does not require that their staff be vaccinated and won't divulge vaccination status if there is an exposure. The dental hygienist who saw me Tuesday and worked on me for an hour, inches from my face, became ill on Wednesday and tested positive. The office called me Thursday to let me know. Although she did wear a mask, it was just a flimsy one, not KN95 or N95, and I obviously was maskless for the work being done. I am vaccinated, but clearly this kind of close and prolonged contact is very risky. They refused to tell me if she was vaccinated. If she was vaccinated, then she has done about all that can be done under the circumstances, with the exception of a better mask. If not vaccinated, then she has put patients at needless risk. I am vaccinated, have had a booster and wear a mask everywhere. I wouldn't hesitate to tell someone my status. I am also a physician and over my many years of practice was required to have many vaccines to protect myself and my patients. Patient safety must come before any of these rights being claimed by unvaccinated staff. You shouldn't be harmed by going to have your teeth cleaned! I am at high risk because of age and medical problems, and have taken precautions throughout this pandemic only to be undone by my dentist's office. Shame on them. read more

My wife and I are new to the area and needed dental work. We had old, large, deteriorating fillings in teeth that were starting to fracture. We consulted with two other well-rated Delta dentists before seeing Dr.Yu. In both cases the front desk staff said the dentist did install crowns of materials other than zirconium such as porcelain and high noble metals. However, both dentists REFUSED to install any crown other than a zirconium crown! Neither offered a credible, understandable reason for their intransigence. I have porcelain and gold crowns that have been there for years and have had no problems with them. Zirconium can be very hard on the teeth above it and on what's left of the tooth on which it's mounted. It's a lot harder than the tooth material it rubs against. Fortunately we proceeded to see Dr.Yu. He installed a gold crown for my wife and stopped her pain, which was escalating quickly. He fixed my small cavity, installed a porcelain crown and a gold crown. He explained everything completely, did excellent work, and made sure we didn't suffer. He is an outstanding dentist and even has a good sense of humor. read more

It took me several years to find an honest dentist who was more interested in the patients needs and not what monies they could get from patient or their insurance. I have been seeing Dr. Yu for several years now & have found him nothing but professional and honest & actually himself and his. staff keep an eye on what insurances will cover and what treatment you as a patient can afford and are comfortable in paying. I had a very positive experience signing up as a new patient with Dr Yu, getting a cleaning and then getting a crown on a fractured tooth. I've had extensive dental work in the past when I lived on the east coast. I was nervous about moving to Oro Valley and worried that I wouldn't be able to find a good dentist here. It can take time to build trust in a dentist and to locate the right one when you move. I've had some awful experiences in the past in other states, until I found a good dentist. This was a smooth and seamless transition though. Dr Yu is very up to date and "state of the art". My crown went in fast (in 1 visit!). He is very intelligent and quick and competent. I highly recommend this office. The staff is always nice and professional. My cleaning with Brenda really changed my habits and have improved my dental hygiene. Over the weekend (of course) I started experiencing tooth pain in one of my front teeth. After checking Yelp for reviews and seeing bad ones at OTHER providers, I read the positive reviews on Dr Yu and his staff and decided to contact them. After sending a message via their website on Sunday, Jan contacted me, ON SUNDAY. I was floored and very impressed. Being new to the area, my husband and I had not needed a dentist yet. She set an appt with me for Tuesday early AM and said if I needed to come in Monday they would work me in. Not only did I need them Monday, they worked me in and every one was extremely nice and welcoming. As the visit progressed I needed a specialists. The front desk called one and got me in within the hour. How professional and caring and did I mention I am a NEW patient?!
