I live in the Lakewood area and wanted to have my braces done close by (in case of emergencies). So, I looked up local orthodontists and found that Dr. Patricia Simon, of Lakewood Orthodontics was, get this, within 1 mile of my location. Ah, how much better could you get (other than living next door)? So, I go in for a consultation and am immediately impressed by the modern setup of the facility, the cordial attitude of the staff, and the degree of professionalism and knowledge of the head honcho herself. I decide to go ahead and proceed with my embarassing display of metal and almost two years later, I'm going to be done. Over that period of time, I've come to know and love the staff, especially the Doc herself and enjoy the often speedy experience I have here. Whenever a bracket has come off (typically happened when I first got them on), I was always able to get in to have the bracket reglued et cetera. The appointments I've gone in for are always quick, especially the early morning ones. There have been times that I walked in and thought I'd be waiting for a while so I grabbed a cup of tea. Well, by the time I poured the water they were ready for me and I didn't even get to drink the tea! So, if you're looking for a good, clean, friendly place to take yourself or your youngster to have their braces put on, I highly recommend Dr. Simon and Lakewood Orthodontics.

BEWARE!!!!! We were scammed by very unethical and fraudulent billing practices at this office. When…read morewe walked in to our appointment we were under the impression that we already prepaid for the appointment at our last visit. They told us no they wanted 10k more before they would start. We chalked it up to us possibly misunderstanding the treatment process. So we paid. Minutes later while sitting around for them to finish we noticed we were over charged 2 dental implants for a total cost of 3,042 dollars. When I brought this to their attention Selina the office manager "looked into it" and "corrected it." She informed me we would probably have 100 or 200 credit on our account. I looked at her confused and gave her the opportunity to explain why. She gave me some made up excuse that there was all the sudden a new procedure they had to add in the last few minutes only after I pointed out they overcharged me 3k. I felt like she thought I was stupid and would just believe her. I sat there another hour waiting to finish the procedure then approached her again, before leaving, to go over the the charges hoping she would take the opportunity to be honest and correct her scam. I knew what she did and wanted to give her a chance to own up to it, but she doubled down again and said even though we we're overcharged 3k we would maybe get a 200 credit for future work. I was so livid I had to leave before I got upset. I waited a few hours and called back to give her a 3rd opportunity to admit what she did and correct it. She doubled down and refused to return the money. I sent her proof of what she did and told her she must think we're stupid. I have provided photo evidence of what she did. Once I pointed out that we were overcharged her solution was to remove the 2 fraudulent implants from the bill, then remove our insurance portion and increase the price of each item by 100 making the new total 600 more than what I originally paid and she stated she was doing us a favor by not making us pay the extra 600. I have never in my life been treated like I'm so stupid. She really thought I would believe after I paid and pointed out the fraudulent charges all the prices magically went up 100 on each item. I'm embarrassed for her that she thinks this type of scam works. It's the most unethical thing I have ever seen. They refuse to resolve it so we will not be returning to this office ever again. Because they refuse to be ethical and resolve their own "error" we are left with the only option we have, dispute the fraudulent charges with the loan company who assured us they will hold them accountable for what they did.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Epic Family Dentistry, particularly regarding how…read moremy treatment cost and insurance coverage were communicated to me. I was given a written treatment plan showing my estimated patient responsibility at approximately $2,443. I specifically requested that my insurance coverage be verified and was told that if I waited until my insurance became active at the end of the month, approximately 50% of the cost would be covered. Based on that information, I waited an additional 30 days with a bridge hanging out of my mouth, believing I was making the financially responsible decision. After waiting, I was then informed that my policy had a missing-tooth clause and the expected coverage did not apply. I ultimately paid approximately $3,200 out of pocket. My frustration isn't simply that insurance didn't pay what I expected. It's that I specifically asked for verification, relied on the information the office provided, and delayed necessary dental treatment because of it. Unfortunately, when I attempted to address my concerns, I also found the office manager to be defensive and rude rather than solution-oriented. As a business owner myself, I understand that mistakes happen. What matters is how a business responds when a customer raises a legitimate concern supported by documentation. I have my written treatment plan and payment records and have formally requested that management review and resolve this matter. If Epic Family Dentistry resolves this appropriately, I will gladly update my review to reflect that.
