First let me start by saying Smile Designers dental office in Gresham Oregan. I don't know who those people talking about in CA. I have fear of dentist and usually need a sedative. The staff is wonderful, talked me thur it all. About nine people from my company go there and I tell you they definitely work with you on paying them. I know I being paying a bill over a year and they still provide me great service. I work third shift and broke a tooth at 3:35 am. BEWARE! Rude staff- Especially Dr. Sampsons wife Chastity, the office manager. This office is unwilling to work with patients with billing questions or concerns. Shoot down any possibility of being wrong. I've had several of my visits denied by my insurance due to this office coding the visit Incorrectly. I have provided updated codes and magically the corrected claim gets paid. For the most recent issue I called my insurance company to inquire about coding the office was using, the representative informed me the coding was incorrect and that the office would need to use a more appropriate code to get the procedure paid. Not to mention, my current issue should have been diagnosed at my regular cleaning visit/exam three months ago- upon initial complaint. read more

Update: one year later and it's been recommended by two different offices that the thousands of dollars we spent on crowns needs to be redone. I called and asked if Smile Designers stands by their work, and never got a call back. This office deserves to be sued. This office deserves zero stars. I have never dealt with such an unfortunate series of events as I have with Smile Designers. Literally, every single appointment my husband and I have scheduled ended up costing us more than what was quoted. Hundreds more. This last appointment, we told multiple people that if the procedure wasn't covered, that we wouldn't do the work needed. And, again, two weeks after the appointment, they want more of my money because they quoted things incorrectly. If you feel like Smile Designers is your last resort, FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE. Do not trust their "Estimate" for your care. Call your insurance directly before doing anything. The dentists do great work, are fast, diligent, and definitely make you feel comfortable. However, they are not great at "estimates". I signed their agreement based on the estimate they gave, which i guess they just pull out of the air, and then was charged twice as much as they estimated. The response of "That was just an estimate" is not great when your "Guess" is well under half what it would realistically be. My suggestion, take it out of the hands of the person who only wants you to make the appointment and get a realistic price from your insurance before agreeing to the work. That said, you can always just take what they quote and double it from the start, because the actual work is high quality and thorough, the price is just going to be wrong. read more

I let the front counter know I was upset about that. Then the doctor comes in and upon letting her know how upset I was, she just stood there and smiled at me. I didn't appreciate that. I have been a smile designer's patient for 20 years. My dental care has been superb. Never have I been recommended needless procedures . Their technology is up to date and the staff is professional and cheerful . My wife , on the other hand , is trapped in a corporate atmosphere at her dentist and pays outrageous fees for procedures that are drawn out and very expensive . I have to discuss the visit with dentists in Colorado! My appointment is for gum disease, the girl who answered insisted they're going to do deep cleaning. I told her You're not supposed to even touch sensitive gums with a tooth brush. She then said we have to diagnose. I told her it's from Kidney & blood deficiency, she then tells me, we can't do nothing for receding gum! Ofc. Hazen plants drugs & LPD wants to say my teeth are falling out because, of drugs. This review is in reference to Dr Sampson only; not his staff (who are wonderful). I filed a complaint with the dental board and he was cited. My complaint is legit. Due to his inability to perform an accurate assessment, I was left with a life threatening abscess. He then refused to take accountability for his actions, refused to speak with my husband ( I was too sick to comprehend what was going on), then sent me on my way to fend for myself. As a consequence of his actions, I had to have an implant removed and a bone graft performed. I have requested compensation to replace the implant and pay for the graft but was told, "good luck with that!" I had been a patient of this practice for 20 years. I have attempted to sue for costs but there are only 4 dental malpractice attorneys in the state and mine claim would not bring the lawyers enough money to make it worth their while. Sampson knows that so of course he feels no need to do the right thing. read more

Normally I would have given Smile Designers a pretty good rating, however when I called to reschedule an appt. the woman was very rude! She was impatient with me on the phone when I was trying to decide what time would be best to reschedule the appt. and she scheduled it for a time and then just hung up on me. I didn't even realize I was hung up on until I heard the dial tone. I was a bit blown away that she was so impatient and in such a hurry that she couldn't even say good bye or allow me to say anything after she decided to schedule on a certain day. My son had two appointments here, he complained that it was stressful, that he didn't want to come back because of anxiety, and not enough anesthesia. They referred us to a different dentistry because they 'don't do fillings'. I thought that was weird, we all did. So the first time I go to the appointment at the address they gave me for my son to get fillings, it was a residential house in a residential neighborhood. I called to make sure the address was correct, to the disdain of the very rude woman helping me. There was no dentist office where she said. The next appointment, for fillings at a different dentistry, the clinic was closed because of employees with Covid. I called back to Smile Designers to get my son help with his fillings, safe from Covid, and the woman, Juliana, was horrible. She said "I have already done this TWICE with YOU. I am NOT helping you." I am done with those rude, terrible people. I don't want them near my children! If you are trying to be cruel under an already difficult situation, it worked. We've been here awhile in Longmont, and plan on being here forever. Just left my 9am appointment. Yet again (second time in a row) the nitrous had run out half way through my procedure and it takes the DR coming in to let the cleaner know that it's empty. This is LITERALLY the second time and they still charge me fully for the NO2. I have supported this place for years but I will not be aging back ever again and will be attesting the charges. Almost every time I am at Smile Designers something goes wrong, it's like that they just have people practicing here that don't know what they are doing (the cleaning person didn't even know how to turn the machine on and had to ask for help). One time they made me do 8 molds for my crown because the person cut me so bad the bleeding wouldn't stop. Then the crown didn't fit so I had to go back again the next day. Another time I didn't get adequate numbing for a tooth pulling and felt every bit of it, every crunch etc. They need better staff here otherwise I doubt repeat business will be a thing. I know I won't be going back, it was just convenient because it's 2 blocks away. But convenience doesn't superseded adequate healthcare. read more

Beware of unprofessional office staff. When I called to reschedule after having been sick, I was threatened with a $50 rescheduling fee & harassed about coming into the office. I later found out a family member was called when I was running a couple minutes late so they could collect their fee. I have been going to Smile Designers for about 4 years,Every 3 months for cleanings. They have just turned horrible to say the least ! they gave me a couple of temp hygienists which were horrible. Now the last year they have screwed up my insurance and charge me more.When I complained and tried to show them my paperwork .The collection staff told me to find another Dentist. I visited this practice the first week of September for a dental implant consultation. Dr. Drake was the person who I saw and I found him to be very abrupt and less than friendly ;he even apologized for his "lack of social skills". I left the office with a treatment plan and a price schedule for 3 implants. I called the office yesterday and asked if there were any patients I might speak with and also requested more info re: the actual steps involved. I was told that Dr. Drake would call me at 10:30am this morning. At 11,Tracy called me and said that Dr. Drake had reviewed my information and decided to refer me elsewhere! I tried to change an appointment with over a weeks notice as soon as I realized my son had a clash with important school graduation requirements. I was told that despite plenty of notice if my child did not show up for the alloted appointment time he would not be allowed to come to the dentist ever again..BANNED!!! The dentist refused to speak to me in person..... On inquiring if it was just our family he took such an aversion to I was told that nope, any Medicaid patient was treated like this.. Sometimes it pays to get a second opinion. A gold inlay came out when I flossed, and since there was no pain or sensitivity to hot or cold, I thought the best course was to clean up the hole and the chunk of gold, and glue it back in. But the dentist on call at Smile Designers (who reminded me of Leon in Blade Runner) insisted I needed a new crown, to the tune of $1500. Maybe it was just low blood sugar, or grief at my down payment on a Nissan Leaf evaporating, but after going there for 10 years, I started feeling I couldn't trust this guy. I walked out. Next day, I got an appointment with Dr. Peter Mertz (Mertz Family Dentistry), who took the more conservative approach: he cleaned up the parts and glued the gold back in my head. He has good credentials and nice equipment (digital x-ray, laser drill, a machine that 3D "prints" crowns on site and a large screen microscope so you can watch the action live), and after 30 minutes my tooth was restored and I had saved $1200. How long will it last? I'm betting long enough to save up for that high-tech crown. read more

This review is in regards to the Office Manger.. "Jenny Lee".. While I have been a loyal patient for over 10 years... my experience with her has made me have second thoughts. Not only was I unable to reach her during the open hours, I never received a phone call back regarding a billing issue that was urgent. I am just wondering who assumes the title as office manager, yet I have yet to get a return call from or reach in person! They have fallen on hard times. Dr. Drake has been sanctioned and Dr. Sampson has turned into the 'cavity finder'. He tells patients they have cavities when they don't. They won't show you the x ray either. Second opinions on three other patients by other Dentists confirmed no cavities. They are trying to bring in more money. They always use temps for hygienists. I have had many bad experiences with dentists, and honestly these are the guys I wish I had been going to. Dr. Drake and his staff were great. they made me feel very comfortable in a situation I'd rather not be in.

I've been going here for about 2 years and I like the hygienist, but the dentist is pretty bad. Every time I go he tries 'selling' me on braces (even though I have straight teeth) and I go in to have cavities that are visible to ME and are very obvious but if he gets no reaction after simply blowing air on my teeth, he won't fix them. Instead, he finds other small things that aren't bothersome. I spent over 2 hours there only to not have the problem resolved. Very doubtful I will return. read more
