Dr. Mackey addressed some issues on my first set of visits and then it's been mostly good dental hygiene and home and he always fun appointments for cleaning and occasionally rays. I must say that I clearly missed these reviews prior to scheduling my appt here. All the reviews I found were mostly good and expressed a warm and welcoming dentist. Aside for the check-in process or lack of a check-in process being non-existent I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. A few of us came in at the same time and the young lady at the front desk said someone would be right with us and techs just started coming out calling names. It might be helpful to let new patients know there is no formal check-in process but other than that my tech, Kate, was awesome. She talked while cleaning my teeth which I personally don't mind. They also have a very nice and clean office with TV's positioned at the bottom of the chairs. I personally don't find the dentist to be my favorite type of doctor so having the tv's and someone talking to you is a nice distraction. Dr. Mackey came in and examined my teeth and gave her recommendations. I see some bad reviews about her but I didn't have a bad experience. I'll provide an update if anything is different when I go back but I'm hoping this is my new dentist. read more

I had an appointment, I got there a little early hoping to be done on time because I needed to be back at work for a meeting. After waiting for more than half an hour I asked the hygienist how long the dental work would take because I had a meeting I didn't want to miss. She says its about an hour but even if I made the meeting I wouldn't be able to speak because i would still be numb. Because of the timeline I decided to cancel and reschedule. I needed to be in attendance for my meeting whether or not I was audible. They billed me for $50 saying I refused treatment because I didn't want to get numbed. I called and they didn't even try to listen and said the charge would not be removed. I will pay their bill but I'm not returning as a patient. read more

I LIKE THESE PEOPLE Who are these people? Friendly, conversational and best of all professional. Recently I was having a procedure completed, however Dr. Mackey nor my hygienist liked the fitment of my new cap that was just delivered from the lab. "Too loose", "doesn't fit correctly" they stated. They could have just MacGyver'd it in there (paper clip, bubble gum, shoe horn and elbow grease), but nooooo, they're perfectionist, professionals. They took the time to take another impression of the needed cap replacement in order to get the fitment " exactly right". They also apologized that I would have to come back for another appointment, acknowledging that my time mattered. Guess what? I understood. That's what I love about Smile Design, they do all the little things right. It's also a pain, stress and drama free affair, always. Haven't made them "your" dentist of choice yet? I feel honored to be the first to review this awesome place. I stumbled upon a great deal for new patients (check their website) and I'm glad I did since I'll be returning here for the foreseeable future. Everyone is so friendly and caring and there's just a high level of comfort once you're inside. I really liked how they were verbal while performing the procedures. I can't believe I never posted my review for this place. It's been a year and I still think of this the worst overall experience I've ever had at a dentist office. I moved to the area about a year ago and needed to find a dentist that was a bit closer to me than my family dentist in Georgia. I turned to Groupon to help me find the perfect match. I'm meticulous so I checked out a couple different places. The Yelp page for this practice was great so I chose it. I spoke to a young lady on the phone who was so friendly and upbeat that I knew I had made the right decision. The office is very clean and feels cozy. It's tucked away in the back and right next door to a Chickfila. There were aspects concerning both of my visits that really cemented my wary opinion. Both of the times I went in (cleaning and whitening) no one was at the front desk. I waited 10-15 minutes each time for someone to come. I highly suggest a bell if you can't have someone stay at the front desk. Even though I was early for both of my appointments they never started until 15-20 minutes after! This might not bother some, but for those running on a tight schedule twenty minutes is a bit of a set back. Keep that in mind. The dental assistant (or hygienist?), for my cleaning, was great! Her chipper mood and hilarious jokes made me forget about the late start. I felt so comfortable in the chair and I never feel alright in a dentist chair! I told her I wanted to try the zoom whitening and she explained it all to me. I only spoke to the dentist for a little while. She wasn't very thorough and short in her tone. But the assistant had done so well I didn't mind. My whitening appointment was not as pleasant. The dental assistant (hygienist?) assured me there would be little to no pain. She described zingers that I might feel, foods I should avoid, and follow up steps to keep my teeth really white. We started the whitening process, she put the machine over my teeth, and then she left. A buzzer went off and I started feeling awful pain in my teeth. My mouth was covered up and I was trying to alert somebody anybody that I was in pain. I thought the buzzer meant that it was on too long and began to become incredibly anxious. She finally came back and stayed the next two sessions for the full amount of. I think someone should stay every time some one gets their teeth whitened for the first time, ESPECIALLY for the first of the tree sessions. She was off in the background talking to people and making jokes while I was sitting in a chair with muffled screams. On top of all that the older woman who runs reception is just condescending and rude. After my appointment I had burning in my guns. I decided to seek another dentist in Philadelphia and explained what had happened during my whitening appointment. They examined my gums and told me that my gums had not been sealed properly. I promptly canceled my follow up appointment with this place, but I still needed to pick up my whitening trays. After confirming that I could just pick them up and leave, I stopped by. When I arrived the same older woman I had spoken to rudely refused to give me my trays until I met with someone. I met with the woman who had done my whitening before and she explained how to use them. Sitting down for an explanation is so unnecessary. YouTube videos of dentists explaining how it works was more informational. I plan on continuing at my new dentist. I don't have time for late appointments or the pain threshold for inefficiency. read more

Dr. Mackey has been our family dentist for approximately 23 years. I can not say enough about her and her staff. Always professional and friendly. I have had to get several crowns over the years and I have never had an issue with any of them. I recently had a broken tooth which occurred while on vacation on mother's day weekend. Needless to say I was very concerned; I called her, and she promptly called me back and advised me what to do. I eventually needed work with the periodontist in the office who was wonderful and explained everything he was going to do. The staff was very calming and gentle. I must mention Renee who was so sweet to me when I felt anxious with the whole process. Sharon is wonderful at the front desk. I've always been able to call her with billing questions and scheduling. She is so organized and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Dr. Mackey and her staff for your dental needs. My husband, myself, my daughter, and my son have never had a negative experience with this office. We are very lucky to have such a great dentist. read more

Would give this place 0 stars if I could. Terrible. My entire family and I have gone to this dentist for years and have continuously had the worst experiences. First, the woman at the front desk is beyond rude and unwilling to help or answer any questions in any way. Second, there's no real reason to make an appointment as it takes them an hour to call you back after waiting for your scheduled time. Third, they speak and talk about personal situations regarding themselves and other patients right over you when they are working. The work is done terribly, I had to switch dentists where I found out that all my fillings done by Smile Design were done poorly and had to have them all refilled. Finally, they do unneeded and poor work. My sister was told by the head doctor that she needed to have a specific type of work done, she later went in to have this work done, sat there for 4 hours while they cut open her face only to find that what they thought was there, wasn't. Terrible and unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and find another dentist to go to. read more

Having recently returned to the area and having no dental insurance, I went with the best deal - a Groupon for an exam and cleaning. My expectations were low but I was very pleasantly surprised. Amy gave my teeth the best cleaning they've had in quite a while. Dr. Mackey was very professional, but personable. She took her time to explain the results of the X-rays and most impressively, was not pushing me to have work done that would have been $$$$! I appreciate her "keep an eye on things" approach. There are not very many people who can say that they love their dentists, but I absolutely do. There service have brought me on track on my oral hygine which I had neglected for better part of my life until last 5 yrs. They always reschedule based on your convinience, never suggest for expensive procedure that you don't need. I would recommend them highly. read more
