My girlfriend booked us the couples class at Smashed and it was an really fun date. The staff was incredibly helpful and definitely used their pro knowledge to help us out a lot. We made a bowl and a little flower pot. They gave really great instructions and came over to help each pair individually. It helped show us how to work together to create something. If something looked off, especially when our pot started to come apart, a staff member quickly came over to help us still create something beautiful. It takes a couple of weeks to fire the pot and we paid extra for the glaze. I would definitely recommend this for a friend group or couples. Any and ALL time spent with my love is great. But we really enjoyed this experience. Nice and friendly staff very helpful and patient. Its a very fun experience. You are going to get messy.. be prepared. If you're a big guy or plus size lady I would recommend bringing your own large apron if you have plans after. And give yourself ample time to park and get to your appointment. If you're not familiar with the city centre area the studio can be a bit hard to find. The class was good and instructions were clear. My only complaints or I should say opinion on the business is the hours. They're only open certain days of the week and the process of firing your item takes weeks to finish. Not sure why it takes a month? On top of that you have to pick it up on their pick up window time and if you miss that open window you'll have to set it up another time, which takes another month to get your date of pick-up. Also they don't even tell you or notify you when it's going to be ready for pick up. Btw, to paint your pot that's an additional $11 then it will take them another month to fire it lmao! As much as I like the class I just don't think I'll be coming back in this place again. Not everyone has the same schedule as they do and able to work with their schedule. I've done pottery before at you can pick them up in a week and they notify you when it's ready and then pick it up any time on their business hours not at their pick up time window. This annoys me bc I have a very busy schedule and last thing I want to do is work with their schedule. Maybe this place just needs a better manager and more worker to delegate the job at task so the customers don't have to be inconvenience. For me, I'll go back to Potter Wheel and save myself time bc time = money. read more

The place seemed generally well-maintained and the pricing for the experience wasn't terrible either! 3 stars for my personal experience because the initial visit for our couples challenge was fun and our instructors were amazing. The instructors were intimate and patient with our clay-making and I appreciated them so much for it. The second visit (pick-up day) left an inadequate impression because of the staff members losing our second plate and never contacting us about that. We came in a few days after the ready post on their instagram and only retrieved one of our two plates which disappointed me so much. They offered free glaze and that they would keep in touch with me but it seemed like that responsibility was just brushed under the rug. Won't be returning due to irresponsibility on behalf of their staff members but overall a fun experience. read more

Went here with my friend for the hand modeling and we could only make a plate! The lady that helped us was friendly, but pretty much did it all for us. We would do something to our piece of clay and she would change it to however she wanted. We pretty much just paid to watch. read more

I visited the new Smashed Clay studio in Sugar Land and had a great time learning how to use the ceramics wheel and create a planter from a slab of clay. My instructor Lucy was patient and really helpful in guiding me through the process. I'm left handed and she even figured out the best way the wheel would spin for me. Everyone on staff was warm and welcoming. The studio itself is large and modern. I had so much fun! read more

We were disappointed with the Sugarland location for this business. We had a party of 9 girls and we did the wheel pottery. The girls at the location helped our party create their items. However, the experience and end product was not worth the price ($400+) and we didn't even get the pottery glazed. Just dried and fired. We were told that we would get varying colors once we got them back....they were all white!! Like what you START with at Mad Potter!! The girls are quite let down by the whole thing. read more

Terrible. Do NOT go here unless you don't want to actually receive the pottery that you make. The pickup system is absurdly inefficient and the customer service is terrible. I went in early April. The experience itself was OK at best. You got to play around with the clay and wheel, but then the instructors come by and "fix things for you", essentially just making the pottery for you. In May, after not hearing from them, I contacted them to check where my pottery was. I was told that it was shipped off somewhere to be prepared/glazed and that they would notify me when it was ready to be picked up. In June, I reached out again. I was finally told one of my 2 pieces was ready for pickup (would not tell me about the 2nd one), so I drive ~1 hour to go pick it up today, only to be told that it wasn't actually there and referred to contact someone to potentially get a refund. Have been trying to call the numbers, but no response and the voicemail box is full. Very very disappointed and a complete waste of time and money. read more

We attended a "couples challenge" at the new location in City Center. It was just...ok. They didn't really seem ready for business. The place is super small. Nothing but the walls and about 10 wheels crammed in. We were checked in, told to wait while they prepped. Our class was at 9:00 pm but we didn't get started til about 9:15. We were handed two balls of clay and told to center it on the wheel. Honestly that was about the only instructions we got all evening. Luckily my husband knew what he was doing or we would have really been lost. At 9:50 they announced that time was about up. We hadn't even started our second piece. We had to wait in a long line to wash our hands. They never told us how we'd get our bowls or anything. It was just over. I was pretty disappointed in the lack of instruction. They were friendly enough but did not really teach us anything. We had fun but only because we made it fun for ourselves. Definitely not worth $75 a couple. read more

They have the worst system for picking up your piece. Without any notice, you have to constantly check their IG posts to see if yours is done. There's no indication of whether it was posted or not so you have to revisit the page over and over. Seems like a waste of time and a terrible pick up system to deal with. Contacting them took forever, don't even bother calling because it'll go to voicemail. The entire experience was not worth it. read more

I went to a class on April 9 at Cypress and had 3 different instructors. Cody was great and I found out later from another part of my group that one of the girls was very rude and not very thrilled to be helping, just unpleasant. We were told that we would be contacted when our pieces were ready. As of April 24, I had not been contacted so I reached out via text because they don't answer the phone & arranged for pick up this Thursday. I am expecting 9 pieces and hope that none end up "lost", will update this review if needed. This business is a great concept and a fun experience, but they need to re-assess their customer service and the way that they handle the product their customer creates. We did a "couples challenge" in April, at the time they were still contacting customers when the pottery was ready that was created (we were explicitly told we would be contacted). April 12th is when we threw 2 cups, we were not contacted until June 12th pick up the product even after calling, emailing, and a very non responsive customer text line. We were told 3-4 weeks until contact and we received none, we had to be the ones to ask "hey, where's our stuff" and then they couldn't even find it, we had to wait 2 more weeks for them to actually locate what we made. The environment is fun, pottery is always fun, but treat your customers better. When my husband finally was able to go pick up, they were telling people that their policy changed and it was now the customers responsibility to pickup. You're supposed to check their instagram which is never updated and just wait till you see your stuff. What? Re think this you guys! You could be a great business, but pay attention to these reviews!
