After an interview at the local hospital, I really wanted a burger so Yelp we searched. H and I came to Smashburger because it was the closest non-fast food establishment nearby. Worst mistake ever. For $20, we received two subpar, salt-infested-similar-to-the-Atlantic-Ocean burgers, one small thing of fries and a small soft drink. I can do salty foods, but for the burgers' meat to be so extremely salty I needed a gulp of soda to wash it down... I hardly think the money is worth the unpalatable lump of ground meat. I'm pretty sure it's unnecessary to review a fast food burger but this place is really not just a normal fast food burger place. Coming from California and the home of In-N-Out, this burger is comparable to the quality you get. I won't go into the delectable wonders of that place especially for it's price. Smashburger though is still delicious. For all the people who think 5 Guys is that wonderful, I'll say Smashburger trumps it any day. The BBQ, bacon, cheese burger is just awesome although I'd upgrade to the Big Smash if you want to be full from just the burger. You could always get their fries as well which come either in the potato or sweet potato varieties, both seasoned with salt and what not. Either way it takes good. Lastly, get the shake. It's served in the classic shake style, good and thick and it comes with the remainder of what they make the shake in meaning you get more for your buck. I saw some people complain about the wait but I went at noon and the wait was quite reasonable. The food came out quick after I ordered the meal and lastly the service was amazingly attentive. When Smash Burger first hit here in the suburbs of Cincinnati, the hype of it was unbelievable. This area, known mostly for grim fast food chains and things like Applebees, had only a few places that good churn out a great burger. The top was Five Guys, a place that not only slaps out a great piece of meat, but also manages to overload you with giant portions of fries. With little in the way of local burger joints, a new place like Smashburger was a huge deal. Eating at Smashburger can be a trying experience as the place is small and often packed. The line is often crammed into a small entry way but the staff is efficient and the wait isn't too bad. I was also impressed with how fast the food got out to us. The first bite into a Smashburger allowed me to discover why it had become such a huge deal in the area. These are really awesome diner burgers, the kind of greasy, flavorful taste explosions that are available on any corner in most major cities. Growing up in New York I was accustomed to these kinds of burgers but out here in 'burbs, where diners are just as rare a thing as culture or a love of anything that's not Republican, they are a rarity. Smashburgers are well cooked, with the nice touch of "smashing" the burgers down so the edges become crispy. The Smash Sauce (which sounds kind of gross to me) is a nice blend of flavors and the basic bun really ties the entire burger together. The fries are also wonderful, greasy and salty, the perfect diner thin-fry to accompany these diner burgers. Smashburger has a solid menu outside of burgers, including sweet potato fries, fried pickles and more. The Avocado Grilled Chicken Sandwich is one of the best outside-the-burger meals and the milkshakes seem like a favorite across the board. As far as inexpensive, good meals go, Smashburger may end up knocking out Five Guys in one meaty punch. read more

Served fresh and piping hot, ordered the Classic Smash and based on other reviews I would try the Buckeye next time. Skip the deep fried pickle chips. Soggy and salty with a batter reminiscent of KFC batter. Regretted not ordering regular french fries with the rosemary and olive oil. Customer service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. But ultimately, this is about the food and the food here was just okay. I would return to give it another chance and hopefully the star status will be better! read more

As a fan of burgers, I was willing to take a ride out to the 'burbs when a friend asked if I wanted to try this place. I'm branching out from my plain burgers and tried the BBQ bacon cheddar burger, which is served with onion straws. I also had the Smash fries, which are deliciously flavored with rosemary, olive oil and garlic. But I would have been equally as happy to try have the fries with sea salt. My friend tried the classic burger with smash sauce and he said it was great and liked it better than Five Guys. It looked a little sloppy to me with all that sauce, I was happy my BBQ sauce was on the burger under the cheese because it made it less messy. He got the fried pickles, which were piping hot and came with ranch. We hit it at just the right time because a lined formed after we sat down. Bloody mahvelous. I have to say, you can get some pretty off the hook burgers at this place. Now, you can order off the menu, or you can go custom. Both work. I can't say that I have one way to do it. One favorite option I have is a Big Smash BBQ, Bacon, and Cheese, with mushrooms and an egg added to make it extra dangerous. You have no chance of eating this burger without getting finger-licking awesomely covered in burger juice and bbq sauce. Add some of their Smashfries, with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil, and you've got a hell of a meal. The downside here is the fries are thin fries, and their serving size is small for the price. It's not bad, it's just not comparable to other similar burger joints. Service wise, this store does a great job. We haven't waited long for our food, the staff is polite, and they didn't mind that we were taking our time at the end of their store hours. My husband suggested burgers but then came the question - where? I hate McDonalds and Burger King, and Five Guys is alright but way, way too greasy. We'd seen Smashburger around a couple of times and decided that if they were still open we'd check them out. Smashburger, if you didn't know, is like Five Guys in how it is set up and how you order. If you aren't familiar with Five Guys, then it's like Chipotle but for burgers. I let my husband order for me since I wasn't feeling up to it. As long as it had extra cheese I was happy. He got me the Spicy Baja sans-guacamole and with extra cheese as I had asked, and also surprised me with a small order of rosemary fries to split. I was stunned, the burger was a bit oily but not excessively so like Five Guys, and there was just so much on top of it that it was a hot mess.. A hot, delicious mess. The rosemary fries were hot and soft and had just the right amount of rosemary flavor - which by the way I had never seen before but am now a fan of. My husband and I traded bites of our burgers - he got the BBQ Bacon & Cheddar and it was so much better than I expected. I admit I have low expectations (and a history of disappointments) with burgers labeled "BBQ" but the sauce wasn't overbearing nor excessively sweet. It's not a burger I'd order, but I definitely liked the bite I had. One thing that I'd like to note though.. Is that they put so much stuff on the burger that you don't really taste the meat itself - but rather all those things on top of it. The burgers themselves are really thin and, well, smashed. So choose toppings wisely. I don't know that I'll be back here often, and I've had better burgers elsewhere but for the area this is definitely one of the better options. Smashingly good! I wasn't sure what to expect since this is new to the area. And someone told me that they call it Smashburger because they take the ingredients you order and smash it up into the burger before they cook it. While that sounded cool, it turned out not to be true. But what was true was the taste. I had a typical cheeseburger but with the smash sauce (I live wild). That sauce is fantastic. I also had the fried pickles (chips, not spears). They were pretty good, but quite salty (glad I didn't add salt to them). I tried a few fries with their rosemary and olive oil seasoning. Though tasty at first, I'm not sure I could handle that flavor for a whole helping. The seating is a little awkward, especially when it gets busy. I drove past Smashburger on the way to my parents' house one day and decided I should check it out in the near future. A lover of Five Guys, I have now switched my allegiance to Smashburger. While you may not get the overload of fries like you do at Five Guys, the food is a lot less greasy overall. The fries are coated in rosemary, olive oil and garlic, which is delcious. They also have sweet potato fries, a favorite of my fiance's. I can't help but steal a few of his every time we go! I also like that they have more of a variety than Five Guys, offering chicken and salads as well. My biggest complaint is that the space is rather small, but the staff does a great job of getting everyone through the line, keeping the dining room clear and helping guests find a seat. read more

When I cut into beef patties with my fork, I discovered several very long human hairs were cooked into the burgers - they were actually preventing the burgers from being cut apart with my fork! Actually, I would have been fine with just the sweet potato fries and the avocado on my burger. :) I've only ever gotten the Avocado Club (which is actually a SmashChicken sandwich, but you can make any chicken sandwich into a buger--NICE!), and it was superb in every way. Wheat bun, juicy delicious burger, smashed up avocado, crispy bacon, leaf lettuce, ranch and mayo... It was heaven. I've tried both the Smash Fries and the sweet potato fries, both having olive oil, rosemary, and garlic...freaking great. I'm sorry, Five Guys...I do enjoy your Cajun Fries... but... Smashburger is just...wow. The burgers have so much more flavor. I also like getting my food on that fancy little metal tray, with my fries in a little metal serving dish...way better than cramming it all into a bag. It's fine...that's your thing, I guess? So I went against my better judgement on this one as the name itself is catchy .... So I ordered what a man would order at a burger place hint it's a burger... And some fries... The burger was not very good as tasteless meat I added salt and more mustard then some more mustard. My wife ordered the turkey avocado club. Yes that too nasty. The bacon was removed second bite in and the guy I am snatched it up and quickly dropped it... How can bacon taste like a dead animal that has rotted? She eat half before calling it quits and I was is finish my burger but feel frustrated that I could have gone to Culver's right down the road! The fries was a large and probably the first time in history it was not finished !!!!!! NEVER WILL I GO THERE NEVER WILL I RECOMMEND! why try to make something better but screw it up. This really was a disappointment... I had SB in ATL and was much different/better. Taking the entire family here (6 total) is very expensive and I don't think you are getting anything better for the increase in cost. I ordered 3 kids burgers and two BIG build your own for the wife and I. ALL 5 burgers were cooked differently! Most concerning was that 2 of the kids burgers were cooked medium rare! I walked back in to complain and was told that's how they cook ALL burgers (not from what we saw). I said, you serve medium rare meat to kids (all 3 are under 10 with the youngest 4) and he said yes (like it was no big deal). Service was average and speed of getting the food was average (get better at any other sit-down joint.) I would have expected better considering the area its in... I can't imagine too many people putting up with this lack of value (you don't get rich by being stupid with your money). The only flavor was from the condiments. The meat is barely seasoned and tastes like standard corn fed cow, full of hormones and junk. read more
