Smash burger is a downtown Lousiville Kentucky burger chain that sits on the cities very popular and crowded 4th street live. Being a local I usually do not dine on 4th street often. Over the years I've hit up most of the establishments but there weee a few I haven't gotten to yet. So when my daughter had a local cheer comp at the convention center across the road we decided to make the trip. The place was insanely packed with all the local and traveling cheerleaders. The line was legit hanging out the door. I noticed a online order sign and area eBay was empty so I made the smart move of placing my order online and basically skipping the long line. While walking up to the online order waiting area it told the tale of two workers. The guy working the online orders was busting his behind and working super hard. The lady at the Counter was atrocious. She was absolutely the reason the line www insane. At one point instead of taking orders she made change and I kid you not she unrolled a quarter pack one quarter at a time and slowly places the quarters in the till one by one slowly as the line waited out the door. At another point she straight up left the register and took out a trash can that wasn't even full. Meanwhile the online order guy was hustling all around. After we got our order I heard him yell out "people if you want place you order online and you will get it faster". Moving on from the Jekyll and Hyde service the place of it wasn't crawling with people waiting to order was pretty spacious. We had a large party of 9 and found a table. Between our party we sampled the burgers and menu well. I personally got the smash burger or plain cheeseburger and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not much on chain burgers but this has good flavor. The rest of our party had everything from fried to grilled chicken, chicken tenders and tots. Everyone was very satisfied with their meals and said it was tasty. My only complaint is a minor one. The normal tater tot's are much better than the smash tots which had way too much garlic on them. Overall it was an experience and a memorable one just because of the contrasting styles of employees and crazy lines. However I would not be opposed to trying smash burger again. Just hopefully in a less hectic environment next time .

I found myself in downtown Louisville on a Sunday for my teen's mock trial competition. For lunch his crew wanted to eat at Smashburger located on 4th Street. This place is conflicting. I enjoy their burgers and fries, and was thankful for it to be open. I also know this location is slow and cleanliness is mediocre. This trip was no different; however, once our group had their order in we got our food quickly. You can't go wrong with a build your own single Smashburger with shoe string fries. I appreciate that you can order items separately for those that don't want a side and/or soda. If you're in the mood for a good burger, this is a solid choice ... but, bring your patience for the service and atmosphere. Note on parking: you'll need to find nearby street parking or garage, this section of 4th Street doesn't offer parking. It's a great option for someone staying at the Hyatt or another hotel.

The icky sticky stinky man who hit on me :p

I wanted a burger, not to get hit on by the staff. You are working and it's extremely disappointing... As a woman I don't feel comfortable going back there alone, and that's fkn stupid. Brisket burger was good, fries were cold. My review is completely based on how I was treated as a customer.

Trash on the floor where I was trying to eat my food!

Royals is good, spicy food, served kindly and quickly. (It's a simple counter order and basic table…read moreservice kind of place. Not quite fast food, but nearly as fast and casual.) If you've not had Nashville-style Hot Chicken, Royals offers a great introduction and if you know what to expect, Royals delivers at a competitive level, in a city that has seen a fun history of competition in fried chicken. I recommend the X-Hot these days, but that's not where I started. Somewhat regular trips over many years have made that my goto favorite. (I have done the next and final heat level, Gonzo, once. I recall it was great. I plan to do it again. I save it as a cardio workout for the right sort of low other commitments weekend.) I recommend always checking out what the Sliders of the Month are. The monthly specials generally are quite special and have combined so many fun flavors over the years. Though my heart maybe belongs most of all to the Hot Fish, now no longer just a March special. It's hard for me to write about Royals without some form of nostalgia. This building is my neighborhood fast-ish food shop. It hasn't been Royals the whole time I've lived in the neighborhood, but it has made up for it with longevity in a block I've watched shift a lot around it. I miss some of the businesses that used to be on this block. i appreciate some of the new ones. It's been interesting watching Royals grow up into feeling like an anchor here. (I also still sometimes miss some of Royals original options like the hot tofu and some of their early sides, especially as someone who still ranks fried chicken places by their sides even this side of Yum Brands' Commonwealth-named chicken place also giving up on fresh veggies despite once advertising it never would. But Royals did recently graduate Hot Fish to the year-round menu to make it up to me, almost personally, so there are plenty of good changes as well over the years.) I look forward to how they grow and change in the future, and I hope they'll keep this block cool and with an easy spot for a neighbor like me to count on to catch a fast, spicy lunch or dinner.

Crunchy breading, juicy and tender inside. They were not spicey or dripping in any sauce, just regular breaded and I thought "I am going to have to go to this place soon" After doing some research I found that they have drive thru only for dinner hours. So I made my trip down Broadway to Chicken King and could not miss the big yellow sign nor the already 7 cars in the drive thru. Since this chicken has a otremendous fan base, I considered myself lucky to be #8 in line as others pulled behind me. The menu is packed full of items, so my first tip is to look up the menu online before you go...less pressure once you arrive...lol I ordered the 8 PC box (regular) for my husband, 3 PC tenders (that comes with 3 potato wedges) for myself and a medium peach cobbler to share. I was very disappointed that the tenders were not fresh nor freshly breaded. They were pressed and glued white meat formed into a tender. I actually only ate one, shared one with my dog and threw the last one away. The potato wedges were the star. I should have ordered more of those. My husband, who LOVES fried chicken was not impressed. He said KFC and Golden Corral has better. The peach cobbler was average. So, I am sorry to summarize our experience as not having a reason to return.

Decent but not delicious. Didn't try the wedges but they were huge and looked tasty. There are a few sweet treats in the case. Cakes and pies - very small portions - starting at $3. Reasonable, I guess. I had to google what a "keel" was... apparently it is part of the chicken breast or sumpthin. There's no drive thru or dine in at this location. But they do accept credit cards and Apple Pay, now. But there's also an ATM if you choose. Zero smiles from the employees here. Don't look for superior service. They are here to place up food and ring up orders. That's all. Ain't no music. The speakers just broadcast all the cling and clanks going on behind the safety glass. Good prices. Great chicken. It wasn't too busy, so the food came out in about five minutes. I got the 6-piece wings with a roll in spicy, and it was almost $8. Flavor-wise, the wings were very good. They were breaded a lot like KFC and even though they were sauce-less, they still had a nice spicy kick. I was surprised by how tender the chicken was, not dried out, despite sitting under the lamp. One downside: the wings were very small, especially considering they're over a dollar each and already prepared. Overall, good experience, but I don't think I would come back, given the small size and the price, especially compared to a sit-down restaurant.
