I would like to say that Joseph is one of the best there is in helping others. On this particular day, I was feeling very worried about my condition and really wanted to get an ultrasound in order to make an emergency decision. With the weekend coming up, I was unable to reach my own doctor and even Urgent care was booked for the rest of the week. I checked on Yelp and found Josephs great reviews and sent him a message about my condition. He immediately responded and told me he could make time at the end of his work day to help me do the ultrasound (knowing my condition). Whats really great is that I could pay out of the pocket at a great price without worrying about my medical insurance limitability, which most places will not take. On the same day, I drove to his office in the afternoon and met him. I told him about my worries and he was just so understanding, comforting and told me he would do his best to find any issues and would even provide a note to emergency in case he found something that needed immediate attention. As we went through the ultrasound he kept reassuring me about things, and did a super thorough scan of the area I was concerned about. He provided me with a lot of information, including images I could take home and a report that was sent to me within a few hours. I learned a lot about the scan and felt like I was under the care of someone who really wanted me to pull through. I feel he goes 100% in the work he does! I'm very grateful Joseph was there for me on this day and I don't know how I would have coped if I didn't find him here on Yelp. Joseph is a gem. You get ten times the service for a fraction of the price of dealing with PAMF. He was easy to reach and agreed to fit my son into his schedule on the urgent basis the day after I called. When we came in he was already there ready to go with equipment at appropriate settings and gel pre-warmed. As an anesthesiologist who occasionally uses ultrasound in a much less sophisticated, simplified way I appreciated that Joseph is truly knowledgable and slick. He got the required views quickly and efficiently, performed the measurements and went about the exam in a very methodical and systematic way. I echo Ursula's review. In my case, however, there was nothing wrong with me. I just wanted someone to take some images of a couple of my arteries and tell me if I had any plaque building up. I cannot recommend Joe highly enough. He's a nice guy and he knows what he's doing. I'm not a health nut or a hypochondriac or anything. No family history of heart disease and I feel great. But I'm almost 60. I have a great GP (Dr. Sarah Watson at Menlo Med) and she said, "Well, your cholesterol's up and you're getting more sedentary, I've had patients who seemed fine show up with a heart attack and I don't want to be meeting you on a gurney at Stanford Hospital some cold, rainy night." She recommended a group that does CAT scans. But they were expensive and I didn't want to take that much radiation. So I searched around on the Internet and found Joe. I'm old enough to have had a number of Ultrasounds, MRIs, X-Rays, and even a few CAT scans. The procedure invariably drives me nuts. They take the images. Sometimes at great expense and taking hours. You ask the tech, "So what does it look like?" They look at you blankly and let you know that they're not allowed to comment. Hey, I don't want a diagnosis - I know you're not a Doctor. But you're not an idiot, either, right? I mean, you do this for a living. Tell me something in regards to the other 10,000 people you've peeked inside of. Better, worse, or average? Anything unusual? Then you get to your Doctor. You want them to sit down and spend five minutes going over the film and telling you what they think. I always get one of two reactions: I'm busy and you're fine -or- I don't read these images but here's the report from the person who does and it says you're fine. I'm smart. Many of my friends are Doctors. I have great Doctors. We like each other. I think they really care about me. But they're so busy that 'caveat emptor' is my motto when dealing with our screwy medical system. Most Doctors won't give you a copy of the report. So you end up filing paperwork to get a copy. You get the report. You find a friend who's a Doc and buy him a beer or you brush up on the Internet to figure out what all the medical terms mean and then you read the report. I've always found something interesting every time I've done this (you're ankle isn't broken but you're achilles is very strained - I guess the Doctor forgot to mention that - no skiing for a few weeks). Joe is that rare tech who knows his equipment extremely well, understands more than enough physiology to know what he's looking at, and takes the time to show you the image, explain what you're looking at, and compare it to the thousands of other people he's scanned. "This is your carotid artery, this is the plaque building up on the walls, it is so many mm thick. Yours is a lot less than most. If it gets to such and such thickness then you've got a problem. You should have an ultrasound done every five years or so. Read the report from the Doctor after he reviews the images I just took." Joe's not a Doctor. He doesn't even begin to pretend to be. He's a photographer who knows and appreciates his camera and his subjects. The pictures are clear. He will tell you what you're looking at, give you some basic measurements, and point you in a few directions on the Internet for more homework. What more could you ask for? There was nothing wrong with me. In fact, my arteries are very clear for someone my age (something Joe is more than capable of commenting on having imaged many thousands of people). Good thing I didn't spend $2,000 and subject myself to a year's worth of radiation by getting a CAT scan. Joe charged less than 10% of that amount. A bargain. Really. The images are forwarded to a Doctor. If Joe's images had revealed something wrong, then that gives me a Doc to talk to and help me figure out my next steps. I was so impressed that I took home a number of his flyers and handed them out to my friends. That's a rare thing for me to do. It's not too much to say that my hour with Joe was a revelatory, almost epiphanic, experience - "Here's what you look like on the inside and all is well." My appointment with Joseph was amazing. He went over all of the details of my ultrasound, answered all my questions with expertise, and even made it easy for me to get copies of the images online. I went in to get tested for blood clots and he went above and beyond to make sure I was cleared of this condition. I found SmartHealth Screening on yelp and gave them a call. A very nice Man named Joseph answered and I set up an appointment. I am 62 years old and have been having my share of health problems lately and wanted to rule out any heart problems. I have been going to Kaiser for 15 years as well as many other doctors that give you a small amount of time during a visit and not much information about your problem. So when I went SmartHealth Screening I was expecting the same. What I got was something so refreshing and new that I had to write a review about it. First off Joseph is extremely knowledgeable. He started the ultrasound scan of my heart and explained exactly what he was doing and how my heart and the valves were working. I got to watch the entire procedure on the screen and I asked a lot of questions. His explanations of were not only knowledgeable but spot on. He didn't mind answering them and gave much more information than I asked for or any doctor has ever given me. I also signed up for the kidney and gallbladder scan as well and i felt like I was in college learning about a medical procedure only it was on my own body. It was an incredible experience and to be honest if today's medical establishment could even be a tenth as effective as what Joesph does people would look at doctors a lot different. He even mailed a thumb drive to me with some of the video from the procedure. If you need an Ultrasound done, look no further. After having met with numerous Doctors at Kaiser, I was still not convinced I needed surgery. It is a truly horrible feeling to be sick and not know what is going on with your body. The only answer I got was "You need surgery, schedule it asap." Joe took the time to show me the images, explain thoroughly what I was looking at, and for the first time since I fell sick in Dec 2012 do I understand what is going on. I wish my own Doctor would have made at least half the effort of what Joe did, that would have been plenty. I found SmartHealth Screening on Yelp, looking for a heart scan as a preventive health measure. I had a scan over 20 years ago, and now that I just turned 65, I thought an update would be prudent. No insurance, this was my investment in myself. In short, Joseph is terrific. Easy to book via text. I was in his office about 45 minutes, during which time he did a thorough 3D ultrasound of my heart, aorta, carotid arteries, and threw in scans of my kidneys and gall bladder to boot. I like Joseph's communication style--he does a running commentary on the results as they occur, and he takes frequent snapshots and puts them all on a USB drive for you to take with you. At the end of the session, he walked through all the different segments he recorded with me, showing me my blood throughput rate, how my valves and chambers are performing, the width of the various artery walls.In short, a pretty full picture of my functioning heart. I was impressed...and very relieved at having a healthy heart. Very reasonable price...I can't recommend Joseph enough. Only caveat: I had trouble finding his location, because I forgot to write it down, and Google Maps still has his old location in Sunnyvale, instead of his new location by El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. Also, the office that he's in does not post a SmartHealth Screening sign, so just make sure you write down his complete address before you get in your car. read more

Joseph Matthews was kind enough to fit me in on a Saturday morning when I had to book a last minute appointment for an abdominal ultrasound. I arrived at 8 am and he already had everything ready. He even had warmed the ultrasound gel! His personable bedside manner and his professional behavior were excellent. He walked me through everything that he was doing and made sure I understood what we were seeing and what we were looking for. He was very thorough and made sure to get detailed images of everything and I felt really comfortable with the whole experience. I had lots of questions and he answered them all and even took the time to show me things related to those answers on the ultrasound. I actually learned a lot during the procedure and I think that's really important. At the end he asked me if I wanted him to send the results to any other doctors I had, which was really great because I hadn't thought about sending this to my other specialists. Joseph really went the extra mile to make sure I got the best case possible and got the most out of the procedure. Went in for a ultrasound on my abdomen. I was having gallbladder pain and wanted to see if I had stones. Joseph took me right away, made me feel comfortable and was very thorough during the scan explaining everything to me along the way. I was very impressed.
