Smarter Spinklers is NOT a smart option! Horrible customer service! I originally called For a service repair on my panel, which was not working. However, my sprinkler systems and every zone were working perfectly fine manually. They charged me hundreds of dollars to install a new panel and to fix one of my sprinkler heads. I had just laid sod down, so it was important that I was able to have my lawn watered every day. In a matter of days, my lawn where I laid the sod had turned yellow. It turns out one of of my zones was not functioning. (It Was previously working before the service call!) they wanted to charge me $600 To fix a zone that was working a week ago. The owner did not Take ANY responsibility but instead told me that maybe a tree grew. (A tree grew in 5 days??? ) he did say he would take one $100 off the 600 to do the repair. Absolutely insane! My sod is now yellow, no one to repair this damage.. Ive been screwed! No... hosed! And pun and anger intended!! Horrible customer! Do not recommend! read more

We've had a yearly maintenance warranty agreement with this company since we purchased our house in 2012. After the freeze, we found some damage to our sprinkler system. I went to find the paperwork for our warranty and couldn't find what I thought should be the most recent copy. Every year in the fall, we normally receive a renewal notice in the mail, but in 2020, we didn't. The company claimed that there were other customers who didn't receive theirs, so they sent them again in December. We never received ours either time. And honestly, we failed to notice. We had a lot going on at the time, and mail delivery has been disrupted a lot. Even though we have renewed this warranty consistently every year, when I called them, they hemmed and hawed about whether we could just pay for it now and have it be retroactive to cover us for the previous few months. We finally were able to have someone come to look at it, and I didn't get his name, but he was adamant that we could not do that, and the price he quoted for us to repair the damage seemed too high. He was rude in the process. We found another company to do the repair for half the price. We won't be using Smarter Sprinklers again. read more

Had these guys service my house in 2019. They said I needed all 5 sprinkler heads to be replaced and other work done. Fine they did good then. 2 yrs later 3 of the heads they replaced are broken. I Have sprinklers they shouldn't go mess up within 2 yrs. I called to see what they could do and basically going to charge me double to get 3 out of the 5 fixed ($750). Felt like a rip off. Awesome company! Got recommended by a neighbor of ours awhile back. Reasonable pricing and good customer service

Called to get an estimate to troubleshoot my system. Service man showed up on time and immediately started to check valves, wiring, timer etc. Spent a little over an hour and through trial and error got the system working. Presented me a bill for $269. WOW While he did get system to work, he did not use any grease caps on connections, and several of the connections were under water and more came loose and solid 18 gage wire broke while I did backfill. I had to reconnect and hope they don't come undone. Oh, I also did all the digging and backfilling. I did talk the guy down to $209 ( I'm a senior citizen and long retired) which still amounts to nearly $200 an hour for troubleshooting and repair! And this was supposed to be a "free" estimate. A service guy for this kind of work is not exactly rocket science and doesn't require years of training. I feel I was totally screwed and cheated. As they charge $89 for a "service call" that should have more than covered what was done. Use this company and prepare to be screwed out of more money than expected. Will never use them again or recommend them to anyone! read more

On Wednesday, June 9, I contacted Smarter Sprinklers and made an appointment to have the sprinkler control box replaced. I was given an appointment for 10 am on Thursday. Around noon, an installer finally arrived, took a look at the control box in the garage and said he didn't have a 16 station controller. He said he would pick up a unit and return at 10 am the next morning and install it. He said the replacement would be a commercial box and would cost $509 with installation. He did not show up on Friday. The second time I called, I was told he had an emergency and another installer would be here in the afternoon. When he arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon, he went to the old control box and literally started ripping it off the wall. Plastic was flying everywhere. He did install the new controller; it is not a commercial unit. He ripped wires on the outside of the garage that were enclosed in a pipe. He broke the pipe and threw it in the back of his truck. Wires are dangling from the garage. Then he took a sharp shooter and started banging on the individual station units on the ground. I asked him what he was doing and he said they were broken. He would jab the sharp shooter in the ground at various places in the yard. I asked him to quit because we have an invisible fence and lots of garden lighting. He just continued to do it. Then he told me that only 8 of my stations worked and the others had not worked for a long time. I told him that was incorrect that I use the manual setting for all the stations because different areas require different amounts of water. I was absolutely certain all stations were working before he started beating on the station units. He said the system was old and needed to be replaced for $7600. I told him no, that I hired the company to replace the control box only. He told me he would be back Monday to replace the system. I told him not to come. He said he would show me that now none of the stations were working. He did go through the stations and nothing happened. I told him I needed a receipt and the user's manual. He said no - get me the check. When I gave him the check, he left. Nothing was working at that point - not even the hydrants in the yard. He had turned the water off. Because he did not speak English well, he acted as if he did not understand what I was saying to him. My son contacted the office and spoke to the receptionist and she apologized for the situation. She asked if someone from the company came to inspect the job and he told her no. On Monday, someone named Chris? called my son and told him that none of his complaints were valid. He refused to do anything about the unethical and unprofessional work they had done. The company won't even send someone to repair the damage the installer did to wiring on the outside of the garage or cover the hole he left next to the garage. Chris insinuated that my son was a liar when he explained what had happened. These people are totally unprofessional. Neither installer gave me a business card. Evidently they don't want you to know their names or contact them about their work. We are now in the process of finding out how much damage this company did not only to the sprinkler system but to the outside lighting and dog fence as well. read more

We had our system installed and have maintained the warranty for the past 8 years. However, in recent years, I have not been receiving my warranty renewal via mail and have had to reach out to request to pay my warranty to keep it in good standing. In the past, I have been able to renew my warranty when a service tech has come out to do needed repairs. When I called to schedule a repair for this morning, the office staff was hesitant to renew my warranty as it has been expired for a few months. Again, we NEVER received a renewal in the mail. They agreed to come and look at the problem and revisit the warranty issue upon arrival to our home. We were told that we had to pay $450+ to get our system repaired, and only then would they allow us to pay the additional $239 to re-activate our warranty. Upon further digging on my end, I pulled my renewals from 2015 and 2016 only to find that they had the address wrong on file. Miraculously, we received our renewals for a few years despite the wrong street number; however, this explains why we haven't received a bill...due to their repeated clerical error. When I spoke to Chris this morning, explained the mistake that had occurred on their end, and asked again to happily pay my warranty renewal to cover the repairs, he absolutely refused. In a weak attempt to transfer the burden of responsibility to the customer, he compared my annual sprinkler warranty renewal to my car note or my house payment, saying that I wouldn't forget to pay those and would be held responsible even if no bill arrived. I had to remind the man that my house payment and my annual sprinkler warranty renewal are two very different situations. He also went so far as to say that since Covid, some people just "decide not to pay their bills to save money." I had to, again, inform him that I can't pay a bill that I've never received, and would have paid it had his company had my correct address on file. All in all, the work is adequate at best, the receptionist is friendly and tried to resolve the problem but it was beyond her control, and Chris is one of the most unprofessional men I've ever worked with. Stay clear of this company and save yourself the time, money, and headache. They're not worth it. read more

We called this company to fix a broken water station, because it involved a solenoid and was beyond the usual DIY. The inspector came out as scheduled and also recommended a few other head replacements and valve cover box replacements. We agreed since the sprinkler system had never had a thorough inspection since we bought this older house a few years ago. On the day they were supposed to come out and do the repair, there was a huge scheduling snafu, they only had 1 guy available when we were told it would take 2-3, and the manager, David, said we did not sign the paperwork or schedule upfront payment, despite the fact that we were never asked to, and said that he was going to have to reschedule the entire project. I had taken the day off to accommodate the repair and when I pressed the issue, he finally relented and had the poor repair guy fix the one broken station by himself. For that, I give them 1 star because they did save my plants. When the rescheduled repair day came, again only 1 guy (a different guy) showed up and took half a day to complete the work for which we paid over $1K. They did a good job with the sprinkler box valves and installing an on/off station for the sprinkler (which was somehow missing), so for that I give them another star. However, upon inspection by my husband who had done most of the previous sprinkler head replacements, they swapped out the more expensive heads with cheaper heads. They do not provide the same coverage and portions of the lawn have browned out. David promised to give us back 2 of the more expensive MaxiPaw sprinkler heads which costs $20 at the local hardware store but he never did. Rather than dealing with him again, we changed the heads out ourselves. Unless it is an absolute emergency and no one else is available, we will be looking elsewhere for our sprinkler needs. read more

I had a sprinkler system installed with this company for many years. I renew my warranty with them every year. I called a week ago to ask them to send someone out to my house to check the system as I hadn't turned it on since the Houston freeze. The tech evidently came to the house and replaced the brass top lid. I was not informed, he never rang the doorbell, I had no idea he was at my home. The next morning I received a call from a young girl telling me that there is a bill in my mailbox for nearly $300. I told her that this must be a mistake as I have a warranty. She told me that they have to charge separately because of the freeze. I told her that no one informed me when I scheduled this visit, nor did the tech that came out here. I asked to speak to the manager twice and was told that he is very busy. I'm still waiting for his call. I am extremely disappointed in this company. It's an absolute disgrace. read more

If only I could give this business a negative star! If you want a sprinkler system that works, and does not cost you $800 water bill, run away from this business. If you don't want to be stood up for the appt multiple times, stay away from the business. If you want to pay for a premium because this business claims that their system "knows if the lawn needs to be watered", DON'T. because it is not working If you do not want to treated with disrespect and rudeness, stay away from this business We had the worst experience with this business. The system is more expensive than other quote we got, we went for it because we appreciate the "smart" system it promised.. However, from the beginning, it has been a nightmare. installation -It wast delayed a few weeks from the original appointment. Then they finally showed up and took a whole week to complete. They told us it was going to take a day. They left the stuff so messy for the whole week. Smart sprinter was supposed to sense the water saturation and skip scheduled watering Didn't do it. we complained that there was too much water. On Aug 19th ( a month later) they came and tried to fix it . They found that the system was not working properly. they watering has been DAILY / 4 times a day and keeping watering even if it was raining hard that day. They changed setting to twice a week. however, they didn't not change the 4 times a day setting. They also ignored our comments on there was a leak on the side and told us it was all good. we had a water bill for $800 for July&Aug and we reached out to them again because we wanted them to check again on the leak. This time they came back on Friday 10/28 and the technician told us the setting was 4 times a day and the leak we suspect was indeed there. and fixed it. Our normal water bill is less than $100 per month. read more

If I could give this company negative stars, it would go past a trillion. The owner of the company, Wade, has zero integrity and has zero regard for his customers. We hired this company to install our sprinkler system back in January 2018. The company called and had the utility/gas companies come out to mark the yard with all the territories the lines were located prior to installing the system. While the employees were digging, they were negligent and ended up cutting a line anyway. We reported it immediately to one of the company Manager's, Sara, who told me that if we got a bill for it they would take care of it. A few weeks later in early February we did receive a statement from Centerpoint for the repairs they have to make that totaled $415. I sent the bill over via email and after not hearing anything, I followed up by calling. I was told that the Owner would have to directly pay the bill himself because it was over the manager's authority, which did make sense at the time. After following up again, I was told that they would take care of it and I made the mistake of believing them. Fast forward to the beginning of April, and I received a bill from a collection company proving that the bill was never actually taken care of. I managed to get the owner on the phone and he tried to act like he knew nothing about this incident, even though I know he did because of the number of emails I sent and phone calls I had made. He told me to handle this with his manager, Sara again, who was arguing that they had never seen a utility repair bill this high. The collection company representative provided them with additional documentation explaining the charges and even tried to tell them that if they were willing to negotiate, they may be willing to settle for a lower amount. The owner has turned into a complete coward and refuses to return any of my emails or calls at this point. I have my final invoice from them which is on company letter head that says at the bottom, "In the event that we accidently cut a utility line while performing your work, we will repair it at our expense." I am being forced to take legal action against this company if they are not willing to resolve this with me directly. On top of all of that, prior to received the statement from the utility company, they tried to tell me that I had not paid my final amount to them. I wrote a check for the same day they completed installation and they had already received the deposit amount when we set up the installation appointment. I had to provide proof by sending a copy of my bank statement. They knew they had received the money from me, but it seemed like they were just trying to get more money from me. This was the first incident that left me with a bitter feeling. Additionally, I had to request a service because our zones were not working literally within 2 weeks of installation. I had to reschedule 3 times, because the first two times resulted in a no call, no show. Someone did finally come out to address the issue, but it is never good to not have proper communication with your customers regarding appointment cancellations. If you want a company that backs their word, then I highly suggest you look elsewhere. This company should not even be in business if they cannot handle themselves professionally and take responsibility for their actions. I am completely disgusted for how I have been treated, and I don't think they deserve anyone's business. Please do yourself a favor and pretend you never even knew this company existed....they will only become your worst nightmare. read more

My husband and and I got Smart Sprinkler to come out and install our sprinklers and everything went fine. When I went out to check everything our yard looked horrible. There were holes everywhere. They had to come back because how they installed the sprinkler heads where completely off. Now not even a year later they don't work anymore. I called them and set up an appointment for them to fit it. First they promised a call before they came and I never got a call then the guy didn't have the part and had to reschedule. Today was the second appointment and almost an hour after the scheduled time no one has bothered to show up. I called about 30 minutes before the end of the scheduled window they gave me and the receptionist assured me he was in his way. FYI we live right around the corner from this location. I wish I had read the other reviews before I hired this company! The sprinkler system somehow passed inspection but never worked. I tried for months to get them to fix it and the installer had every excuse under the sun for why it didn't work. I finally had another irrigation company come out and replace the faulty nozzles and now it works. I could never recommend this company!! read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE, PROFESSIONALISM & WORKMANSHIP SUCKS!!!! We had a patio and sprinkler system installed a little over a year ago. The yard was horrible and alot of dead grass everywhere. The patio...they took their time and had us waiting weeks. They would come out and do a little and then come out a week later a do a little more. Now, fast forward to a month ago. We needed some repair to our patio. It started to crack. They came out and the guy did a HORRIBLE job. If I could post pictures I would. They wanted to know if we were going to pay them. None of management came out to see the damage to the entire patio..they just wanted pictures. Then they sent the same guy who damaged the patio out & who spoke no english and he tried to fix it with a shovel. It is not repairable and damaged beyond beilef. I called and left several messages and still have not heard back from these people....it has been three weeks thus far. They don't care about their customers or work product. I guess since the damage is more than what we owe them, they are not concerned about fixing the problem or getting paid. We also paid $100 for a bag of sand from them that cost $2.50 at Home Depot. We had a small leak on the pressure side of our system which resulted in constant flooding near a large oak tree. During the initial no cost visit (the only company who would do this out of the 5 that I called), I was shown where my shut off valve and back flow preventer was (it had been buried for years) so we could temporarily shut down the leak. That was worth the visit right there. I was given a firm quote on the spot along with a description of how the piping would be re-routed around the roots of the oak tree which had caused the cracked pipe. I would have rated the workers higher but the re-routing of several of the pipes caused a swapping of two zone numbers. 4 was now 7 and 7 was now 4. Not a big deal but I had to reprogram the system accordingly. They offered to make it right but I was ok with the swap since it was just a number change and not worth digging up the yard again. I don't know how this company would handle a complete new installation, but for repairs, I would not hesitate to recommend them. read more
